The reason that rememberance day ringing has an eerie feel is becasue they ring what is known as half muffled. Normally the clapper which is metal hits the bell on both sides but when they ring half muffled they put a leather cup on one side of the clapper with straps, so one one side the bells sound muffled or muted. It does sound good though. Worcester bells are so nice, the tenor bell which the man in the gray tee shirt is wearing wieghs 48 CWT or just under 2 1/2 tons A beautiful bell.
also at worcester cathedral, the extra bells used to make the harmonic minor ten on the middle 10 (with the extra bells) gives it an even more eerie sound.
I have loyality to whitechapel I must admit, my dad was a bell hanger there, I worked there for a while and I was almost born there but there is something about a Simpson tuned heavy Taylors peal that is simply "Exotic" Very akin to a really lovely bottle of Shiraz, warmth and depth. Enough from a pommy Steve
Sounds like a galloping pace?! I know nothing about bell ringing, except I heard some on Radio 4 ''Remembrance Sunday'' that were eerie and wonderful...[2011]
@Oakleaf700 the more bells you have, the closer in you have to ring each bell to another:) If you want to know any thing else feel free to ask! Hope that helps Jacl
These bells are superb. They just need pulling. The rounds at the start get better with some nagging. However, as soon as he says go, the ringing falls apart. Shame!
@Ivan McCue When Les Townsend was RM at Lincoln Cathedral it was OK. Then Andy Blacklock took over and started running the practices differently and everybody hated it. They threatened to walk out unless he quit, which he did. Actually even Leeds is quite enjoyable and they do the national 12 bell competition. In fact, I was involved in the first ever ringing at Leeds Minster
@Ivan McCue I was kicked out of the Lincoln Guild in January 2015 for apparently verbally attacking a 15 year old learner (I still deny it) and previous Facebook posts about some ringers in the past. I also told another learner she couldn’t come anymore as her parents were messing me about. At the branch AGM where I was kicked out I was keeping my 2-year-old son occupied elsewhere so I couldn’t defend myself, and it was particularly embarrassing for me as one of the Grimsby ringers at the AGM was a learner who I knew from a band I used to play in, who had only taken an interest in ringing about a couple of months previously. I carried on as Grimsby RM for a bit afterwards but then decided I didn’t have the heart to carry on, so I quit. I can’t remember how I actually left the tower as it was a while ago now

Superb indeed. Your camera picks up the sound very well.
You ring the tower at Worcester no-matter which bell you are ringing!

I love the sound of these!! Rough going apparantly - what did you make of them!!

@simonbellringer they arn't rought going at all. Just frame shakes so bells 1,2,3 drop like a stone. Bells 4 and heavier are fine!
Thank you Laura
Is that Bernard Taylor on the treble
It sounds like plain hunt 11.

@Whittingtons I dont know, this was my first time ringing in Worcester so I don't know many people
@Whittingtons Thank you
These are nice 12. Sounded superb to Bristol Max and didn't go as hard as we were told :P
Mark Regan, Ringing Master
What was Mr Regan like as a tower captain?
@Read1526 he was very nice!
Thats why he has a box to stand on :-)
@WrongAndHome No, for practice night
Is that Charlie Camm on the Tenor?
HO HO HO
Was this for a service?
Who's the chap on the treble?
All the rope coiling around the tenor ringers feet looks ever so dangerous! Even though he must be an expert ringer - it still worries me!

4 & 5 never did get their backstrokes right!
Oh dear...I'm wearing my ripped jeans and t-shirt...should I go home?
@Ivan McCue no, he said “ring smartly, please”
@Ivan McCue a lot of these people from big 12-bell towers usually are. They want good quality ringing on good quality bells

Superb bells, dreadful camera work! :o\
@Whittingtons Thank you
