You're great Phillip , excellant mechanic and talented videographer ( correct angle for showing all different parts. Steady shots , good lighting, and very clear narration , to the point. Thank you for the very helpful video !! Your friend from Puerto Rico. Edwin Oliveras
Except he adds an extra however long when removing the drive shaft from the transfer case. Prolly save and hour by locking it in gear taking the middle part out and taking the nut off while attached to the transfer case then you just do it all right there quicker then how he's doing it.
My 99 Prerunner is making a random clunking noise every several seconds down the highway. I think it's the center bearing play which is about 1/4 inch play in the rubber insulator. I think it's just starting to loop around in the rubber insulator now and then so I'm going to replace it, ...past due after taking a look at it. The vid helps thanks.
You will get vibrations, because the driveshaft won't be turning properly balance ( it is balanced from the factory ). Your friend from Puerto Rico, Edwin Oliveras
great video! i need to do this service on my '99 Taco, and have only hand tools. not a mechanic, so wondering if i will just need to have it in gear to break the nuts/bolts free, and also to tighten them back to torque specs? want to be fully prepared to knock this out (and service the yoke at the same time) thanks in advance!
@@FixItPhillip i had the rear wheels up off the deck so i could rotate the driveshaft as needed. locking the transfer case worked perfectly to break, then re-torque the carrier bearing 24mm nut
Any idea if the 06 versions have any kind of dimples or any marks to properly along the yoke? I saw where some vehicles have a double dimple marking to indicate the correct clocking but one part is on the end of spline area. Mine shot off and I had such a. fight with a. magnetized brand new universal by the time I got it back together my marks weren’t visible anymore. I got it back in eventually and theirs no bad vibration but I’m wondering if I might be off a tad because my bolts didn’t line back up completely it was very close but just didn’t want to line up 100%. If I was 180° on the yoke you’d think you’d know by a bad vibration maybe but i don’t know if a slight clocking being off would be noticeable.
Just had my center bearing and the two rear u-joints replaced in my 2005 Tacoma prerunner due to a bad center bearing. Now my truck vibrates at take off. Any suggestions? Thanks
I would have them double checked to make sure they were done right. Also the drive shaft is balanced, if the u joints were done and the shaft wasn't installed the same direction as before it may not be balanced anymore, it's important to make some paint marks on the shaft before you do the ujoints so its put back in the proper orientation. But I would first look good at the ujoints and center bearing for play and check the trans mount
@@FixItPhillip I took it back and they redid the u-joints again. I am not sure if the shaft was ever marked originally prior to dismantling. However it is too late for that. Is there an easy way to check for the balance? Thanks
How was that 24 so easy for you to take off?? Ive tried air, fire, hammer and still cant get the damn thing to budge.. cant hold the shaft with anything because will dent and bend it up.. but still.. 20 year old nut.. when i was 20 it was pretty easy to get my nut off.. damnit..
I have the vibration on my 99 Taco, but there is about 1/4" play in the carrier bearing, is that enough to cause it? All the ujoints are tight. The only other play is the trans mount has some movement. Thanks for the video.

I'm sure glad you did it the way I would have. Good job buddy
I spoke too soon! You don't have to take the drive shaft all the way off to do this
Thanks 4 the tacoma center support bearing vid helped me on my 98
Nice job Phillip, keep up the great work!
Very helpful video. Thank you Phillip. Your friend from Puerto Rico , Edwin
What is the grease you went use @ 4:42 ?
Awesome thanks for showing us why first.
You're the best phillip thank you
what happens if you don’t mark the drive shaft? when changing the drive shaft center support?

You should be fine. You can always try the ebrake also

WOW man, in that condition and it's still holding up? Some quality part there Toyota! But changing new parts would be great.
This video is straight foward GOOD shit !

Unfortunately not. Driveline shops if you can find one usually have to do it. Does it feel better after they redid them?
Do you ever fix it and how ?
@@ericnazario8350 Yes. Center support bearing had to be reinstalled correctly.
Wow. That thing was about to leave town.
Haha ya that support bearing was done lol
Where do I get a drive shaft like this

Looks good~ thanks for sharing. Is that bearing specific to certain years or universal for all Tacos?
I believe it's the same for quite a few years for tacoma, t100, and tundras. Thanl you for watching!
No not the same. I have a 4WD TRD and my driveshaft has a bellows just behind the carrier bearing.
My 2015 TRD 4x4 has it
I have the vibration on my 99 Taco, but there is about 1/4" play in the carrier bearing, is that enough to cause it? All the ujoints are tight. The only other play is the trans mount has some movement. Thanks for the video.
Most definitely enough to cause that vibration, 1/4" is way too much play.
Thanks Ringo
Will they wine like a wheel bearing?
It does have a bearing in it but I've never had one whine, usually it's a vibration concern
good video thanks
I just installed mine backwards.... I don't think it will mess with anything..
Whoaa found the problem 😂
Haha ya it's not supposed to do that lol
I am missing something. Haven't seen a vid of yours in awhile. Hope all is well with you and yours.
All is well, just started getting monetized by youtube! Hope all is well.
Some manufacturers have a non-servicable design that requires you to change the whole damn driveshaft!
Like mine
Shit that bearing is how mine looks
