OMG that same thing happened to me! I had the cutest mug and it also had some gold plating on it and when I put it in the microwave it burned! and a little piece cracked off. I was so upset cause it said on the bottom not microwave safe but how was I suppose to know?? I've never had a mug I couldn't put in the microwave so now I have to check every time I buy a mug lol
