The sunny bike 1709 is a popular indoor cycling bike alternative to more expensive bikes such as the keiser m3i and the peloton bike. This is my official a-z tailhappy score review of the sunny sf-b1709. More important than the number assigned to each category is probably the commentary and visual analysis of the bike showing and telling what you can expect from the bike. As I am making more and more tailhappy scores it is getting more difficult to rank them in each category, but i'm doing my best to give you as thorough of a sunny bike 1709 review that i can. #TailHappyScore
The Sunny Health & Fitness Magnetic Rear Belt Drive Indoor Cycling Bike with RPM Cadence Sensor is a great value bike as it comes with cadence, spd pedals, and a comfy seat from the factory. The seating position is comfortable and I feel the seat is what a beginner would like and expect from a saddle. The resistance lever on this bike makes changing the resistance level very quick and you can also visually see where you are on the resistance scale unlike a knob.
If you want to buy this bike i have a link to it and if you buy through that link it will help support this channel, but don't buy it if you aren't sure this is the bike for you. I have many other indoor cycling bike reviews on my channel and there are 2 other sunny bikes i have reviewed. The sunny 1805 is a really good alternative option to the sunny 1709, it really just depends on what kind of drive train feel you'd like as well as several other major differences such as riding position and electronics.
this bike is listed as Sunny Health & Fitness Magnetic Rear Belt Drive Indoor Cycling Bike with RPM Cadence Sensor on amazon.

Thank you for such a thorough review. I have binge watched several of your videos this past week - a few over and over again, I finally decided on this one. I used your link as a thank you for the work you freely share with us. My bike will arrive on Thursday. Yay! Thanks again.

The bike is a great value when it works. If you read the 1 star reviews on Amazon, you will see that it doesn’t hold up over time. Several people say the seat breaks after a few months and there are other quality control problems and Sunny has very poor and unresponsive customer support.
You may need to buy 2 and keep the second bike around for spare parts.
So, if you are lucky, the brand new bike will seem amazing for a few months of heavy use, then it starts falling apart.
If you are unlucky, it will have problems directly out of the box brand new, but at least you will be able to get a refund if that happens.

Good point. I read every bad review. But also factored in that on Amazon 6-8 percent of reviews are generally negative on almost everything. Even the highest rated bikes on TailHappy have 5-6 % one star reviews. Someone in logistics that I met once said that there’s a 5% dud rate on just about every product. The other 2% were clearly people who mucked up the assembly and refused to own up to it (pedal and seats came up a lot and were pointed out to be difficult to install). It’s a gamble that you might be in the 30-40 who have a bad experience or the 560 who love it. At that price point, I’ll gamble with a warranty for insurance.

I bought a Sunny spin bike 11 years ago because it was only $250 on Amazon. It has been a really good bike, with felt pad resistance with my own SPD pedals, a Wahoo Cadence Monitor, and a Polar heart rate monitor. I'm a cyclist, and I only used it for some cardio in the winter. It is a well-built and sturdy bike. So I'm saying that Sunny makes a good product. Time to upgrade - I bought a slightly-used Peloton from a friend, and I'm just not a fan of "spin classes" so I will sell the Peloton and buy either a Sunny 1805 or Keiser M3i (I guess it just depends on how much I can get for the Peloton!). Nice reviews, BTW. The handlebars on the Sunny 1709 make it a no-go for me.

Very much enjoy your reviews, but would love it if there was a chart somewhere (is there? haven't been able to find it if so) giving the ratings of all the bikes in one place. So that I could check out the highest ratings and work my way down the list that way. Finding it impossible to make an accurate buying choice with so many bikes reviewed...

The fact that it feels more like a road bike is super appealing.
Do you find the longer crank length to be a factor that should be considered?

Would you go with an 1805 or 1709? The 1805 has been featured in a few of your vids, but I don't think you have given it a score. They both seem like decent choices so can't go wrong, but which way would you lean? Is the slightly wider stance / Q factor of the 1709 noticeable compared to the 1805?
I was set on 1805 + cadence sensor until I saw the 1709 price drop, now I am not sure.
    Thanks for the videos.

Personally I think I may prefer the 1805, I have a tailhappy score in the oven for the 1805, although I'm struggling how to rate it for metrics and features since this really hurts its overall score as it lacks there, but in a way it is almost better to have no metrics so you can bring your own since neither bike has bluetooth or wifi to track etc

Yesterday based on your vids, I purchased the 1805 (through your link). Then I saw this and wondered if I would have liked this one better and saved a few bucks. Yet, although it has clip in pedals I agree that the tech offered might actually be more in the way than an addition. Thanks for all your help on this stuff. SO confusing.

@@TailHappyTV Maybe give it two scores in that category based on if someone is willing to add a cadence sensor? Final score could then be something like "72 (*75)" where the * means with $40 sensor.

Just exclude the score for the lack of electronics. Instead of a zero in that area just mention the xtra cost of the Wahoo. Score based on the features it does have. I came here looking for the same answer 1805 vs 1709. I think I might get some spd pedals and shoes for it too.

You are so thorough and your reviews are awesome! Hope your wife agrees with all that equipment in the kitchen. Any plans to review the Stryde bike which is similar to Peleton? I would love to see your review putting it through the paces. Stryde is suppose to have a Picture in Picture app that overlays a window with Cadence, Resistance and Output. Thanks in advance for considering.

10:57 I've found this HORIZONTAL TUBE assembly style is main cause of the seat not staying securely.
Have you or any current SF-B1709 owners found a replacement VERTICAL TUBE assembly or recommendations? This would attach/connect the seat vertically like other models securing the seat from falling off.

I don't know if it is because I am from Denmark, but a lot of the bikes you have links to are "Currently unavailable" on Amazon - including this one.
I am looking at the Sunny SF-B1877, which is available at Amazon though.
The only differences for the 1877 I see are: 29 lb flywheel, handlebar can only be adjusted up/down and the max user weight is lower.
In your experience, would that bike be significantly worse than either of the Sunny bikes you have reviewed? (B1002, B1805, B1709).
The other thing is, that I have to pay around 200$ for shipping, and a lot in customs and VAT - all in all the B1877 would cost me 711$ - with the Amazon prise set at 329.31$.
So I am looking at options.

I think it just has a heavier flywheel and no monitor... from what I can tell in the specks. A lighter flywheel will have less torque on the knees when starting or stopping.

What would you say the resistance conversion for this bike during a peloton class? If the instructor says30, is that 3 clicks? The only thing I don’t like about this bike during classes is the 10 pt mindset. So I can only do 10, 20, 30 etc. not like 3-5 how they instruct
