Here’s the funny thing I actually came across this movie when I was 13 years old that was 17 years ago I remember it was playing on IFC. I didn’t know too much about this movie all I saw was it said come and see and boy did I see what the hell I was watching. It felt not only just like a war film but it also was like watching a horror film even for a 13 year old boy back then myself I couldn’t believe what I was saying I thought I was watching media Warfield but I never thought it would be like this kind of horror. I wouldn’t know too much about this film until 2020 around the time the pandemic was so bad and I was working at my stinking dead end job while I was still trying to get my career going in HVAC now I work in refrigeration now. I should’ve started from the beginning but when the pandemic hit I never got a chance until like July but then was laid off in October and hired and been with refrigeration since 2020. I remember seeing the full film on UA-cam and then I also watched reviews on it and it was clear the Waffen SS that were burning that Village weren’t really normal Waffen SS. They were part of the 36th Dirlewanger brigade this unit was the most evil unit ever created by the SS. Their leader and founder Oscar Dirlewanger himself was a child molester a heavy drinker and beyond that real sadist. The idea was they were recruiting criminals that were just poachers out of prisons but then they started choosing Murderers rapists psychopaths from prisons and mental asylums as part of their way is helping cleanse all inferior races. Problem with this unit is that they showed no mercy to anyone they captured they just had a real fetish for torturing looting burning raping liquidating people in villages it was their favorite hobby their favorite was putting people in buildings and setting them on fire. If you think that’s evil during the Warsaw uprising Oscar Dirlewanger ordered his men at a daycare where 90 children were held not to waste your bullets on the children by use knives and the butt of your rifles to save ammunition killing them. This unit was so bad the SS despised them demanded these men be prosecuted take away their rights from ever doing any sort of mission referring to them as pigs. The only thing they were good at was killing people that’s all they were ever good at but the one thing they really suck at doing was fighting on the battlefield that was their downfall then again this isn’t really that surprising how just near the end of the film they get ambushed and they are taken prisoner only to be executed that wasn’t really surprising.
Yeah. Absolutely, he did. Especially during and after the battle scene, boy, it was not scripted, it was REAL. Absolutely REAL. After the scene, the color of his hair changed (since the battle scene was full of literal live rounds), which was visible before the massacre had begun. His role as an actor was at the next level, so much so that even off-camera you can feel it. Absolute shellshock and goosebumps.
Legend The leading actor is also playing a Russian officer in a similar shock war movie called the painted bird . The sniper of saving private Ryan plays a Russian sniper . But my lord think that movie is more shocking , brutal than this movie and thats not easy.
i used to read history and thought about the atrocities committed by the germans but when i watched this film i realised that the atrocities committed by the germans were way more horrifying than i thought
Ya the Nazis (Not gonna lump all Germans in with those monsters) did some of the worst atrocities human can commit against another BUT you need to look up what the Japanese did! Both regimes were so ridiculously evil and barbaric to their fellow humans it's really hard to determine which one was worse. I don't think any American ever should apologize for Hiroshima and Nagasaki. They were planning on throwing every man woman and child at the allies with sticks and Spears sacrificing untold millions of civilian lives just to keep in control to continue countless atrocities. They forced America's hand.
I watched this movie years ago and never watched it again because the horrors of this movie is really affecting me. I do like this movie and this is one of my top tier movie.
All this was based off of the Director and producer’s experience in both World War II one of them was a resident during the siege of Leningrad witnessing the horrors of people starving deaths you name it. The other one was a partisan in Belarus fighting the Nazis he did that from when they invaded at a young age and then once they were kicked out he I heard attended university. Either way the story is inspired by both of their experiences and believe it or not this is not supposed to be made to look like war is action only the truth is war is pretty horrific and this movie is the definition of why war is horrific.
This war....even almost 80 years later still seems fresh in memory....at least to these countries like Belarus or Russia....one guy wrote that his elementary school in Russia still had the bullet holes on the walls from that time.....no one bothered to patch them up....I guess no on bothered to patch up the victims and thier children of this war either.

There's nothing like Come and See. It is haunting, dream-like, merciless, surreal, horrifying, and honest. It has the rare quality of capturing the sense and madness of war. It is not the typical 'anti-war film', but a snapshot of the age. The only other war film that has this quality is Apocalypse Now. It's not only one of the greatest films about war, but among the greatest films of any genre and age.
