I took the PATH train just within Manhattan during the early 1980s because it was only 30 cents, versus 50 cents for the subway. The reason it was cheaper was that PATH is run by the Port Authority, which is run by two states - New York and New Jersey. Getting both states to agree on anything isn't always easy, and they had a hard time agreeing on raising the fare to match New York's subway fare. Today they have the same fares: $2.75.
@Bruno56 I live in New Jersey and go there all the time. The reason I live in New Jersey is to avoid the rent. There are rats in many cities and criminals are not exclusive to New York. They have hundreds of wonderful and gigantic stores, huge public events, tons of museums and many other interesting things.
I appreciate the commentary; it's informative and helps you understand the system. A lot of videos have no commentary, no station identification, etc.! You are a true urbanrailer like myself. Suggestion: a video on the Newark subway and the light rail system along the Jersey City-Hoboken corridor! Believe it or not, there people who never heard of the Newark subway system especially New Yorkers! I've been traveling back and forth to Jersey since I was a kid so I knew about the Newark subway; it shouldn't be forgotten or omitted from the urbanrail scene in the Metro area!
Thank you so much for the information. Also, I have to questions. I need to know if there is a ferry to Newark. And what's the nearest NJ beach I can go by using public transportation from Manhattan. Thanks😊
As a child I loved buses and trains, but the Newark City Subway and Path Train were treats. Branch Brook Park to Downtown Newark, Newark Penn Station to 33rd St ❤️
This is the train to...Hoboken...Making stops at...23rd St, 14th St, 9th St, Christopher St, and Hoboken...The next stop is...23rd St For real though, 5 years in Hoboken and other than one time I had a bus to catch near one of the ferry terminals, it was the PATH into NYC every time.
the tone of this train during ride is same as in LA Metro's P3010 including Indonesia's Jakarta MRT because its from Japan, as well in Hong Kong's MTR K train and Greece's Athens Metro also its from Hyundai Rotem in South Korea. Because its IGBT-VVVF!
Have you taken Metro North on the Hudson Line? Very beautiful scenery, and it starts while still in the city. Take it all the way to Poughkeepsie. Then you can check out the Walkway Over the Hudson, which is awesome!!!
Great video, can you tell me if the path runs from NJ to Manhattan on a Sunday night after a Devils game at the Prudential Centre? Thanks in advance 🙏🏻
Path trains run all night (only on the red and blue/yellow routes in the night hours). Due to construction, trains are not running between Exchange Place and WTC. But I think the 33rd St line should be fine. You might wanna their website.
PATH was 24/7 in the '90s and early 2000s when I used it. I think it's still should be the same? That is actually one of the really good reasons for using path because you can go out. Have fun in New York City and then come back in the wee hours on path.
You have to take the train from Newark Airport station, transfer at Newark to PATH, then transfer to the subway. Or you could take the train from Newark Airport to Penn Station, then change to the Long Island Railroad.
Depending on where you were going in Brooklyn. I would've transferred at Newark Penn to the PATH WTC. From there you would walk over to Fulton St, underground, and taken the 2-3, or 4-5 into Brooklyn. LIRR doesn't go to Brooklyn directly from Penn. You would have to take it to Jamaica, then transfer to a train to Atlantic Avenue.
I would take the New Jersey Transit into New York Penn (not to be confused with Newark Penn) and then transfer to the subway there. There are fewer stops and it is faster on NJT. But PATH is cheaper (and slower). With the NJT option, you would also need to take the AirTrain (monorail that leads from the air terminals to Newark Liberty rail station).
The cheapest way to get to WTC/midtown from Newark International Airport: take 62 NJ Transit bus from stops outside Terminal A/B/C (ending at Penn Station Newark) and transfer to PATH from Newark Penn Station!
Hey thanks. I have used that mode every time I went from EWR to Manhattan. It is way cheaper than taking NJ Transit direct train which cost like 13 bucks. This is the cheapest as it is only 4.35 (1.60 for 1 zone bus plus 2.75 PATH) beware to board the correct 62 bus saying Newark Penn Station at Terminal A B C not the Elizabeth 62.
Take the AirTrain to Howard beach, take the A train to W 4th street/Washington square, then walk to 9th street. The PATH station on 9th street can get you to jersey city
It would be a great idea to build and extend a new PATH line directly to Jamaica Station to connect to the AIRTRAIN there(if it were possible). It would make sense since both JFK and PATH are both owned by PA.
I would love for them to get on the Omny system which I use on the New York subway. But when I take path into the city then I have to buy a MetroCard. If New York City wants to eventually face them out, then path should get on Omny soon.
Ethan Levy i really dunno what to say about your comment.... Jesus christ do you even get the concept of light humor? I said lol because i already know how to use PATH between NJ and NY

The Port Authority did not build the PATH, it was built long before the Port Authority existed.

We're coming with many new PATH and NYC subway vids soon! Just gotta get through finals stress haha...
@@Thom-TRA Awesome!
Ding ding! I'm a tram and I approve this video :D
Don't forget the OTHER Port Authority train down in South Jersey [PATCO].

I lllllove path pa-5!
A little different from patco which goes the commuter rail route (instead of the paths subway route)
Nice video, is the PATH included in the unlimited Metrocard?
I don't think so. I used to work for them and it wasn't covered. Just the regular fare.
Wow your so informative..

Trains Are Awesome thanks for the reply, would they be safe enough for a family of 4 (2 young kids)?
@@soupyruns9709 Yes I have three sisters and I take them all the time. Just keep them safe on the platforms, they're pretty narrow.
Trains Are Awesome thanks again, really appreciate you taking the time to reply 👍🏻
The path way trains are so cleanish than the NYC trains
They cost $2.75 to ride on
One reason is the volume of people. Another is PATH cater to people who have jobs.
If I purchase a Metrocard Unlimited rides for 7 days, can I use it on the PATH? To go to NYC?
Sadly, no. The metrocard unlimited doesn't include the PATH...
How long would you estimate a trip from Jersey City to Lincoln Center might be? And is the path 24/7?
The PATH only goes up to 33rd St, so you’ll need to change to the subway. I’d give yourself an hour just with transfers and waiting times.
@@Thom-TRA ok, thanks!!
Jersey City to the WTC is only about a 5 minute ride and you can get multiple subway lines from there.

for PATH and NYC Metro, do I need to swipe metro card twice or once?
Twice, once for each
What are the flashing blue lights on the exterior of the trains? I’ve not seen them on any other railroad
They communicate something about the doors or the brakes to the driver. I’ll have to look up what specifically.
Can i use a metro card for the path traine and all of the trains and buses in new york? Or do i need a extra card for both?
One MetroCard should be good for both!
The cheapest way to get to WTC/midtown from Newark International Airport: take 62 NJ Transit bus from stops outside Terminal A/B/C (ending at Penn Station Newark) and transfer to PATH from Newark Penn Station!

At one time they were saying they have a plan to extend path to Newark Liberty. That would be really amazing!
hi How long does it take from New York to New Jersey?
The train ride itself takes about 20 minutes
So how much was Parking on the Jersey side?
Parking came with the hotel. Staying overnight on the Jersey side is certainly cheaper.
If you get lost just have lunch at NewPort Mall 🤣
We did eat there a lot haha
Thanks for that tip. Never been there. I'll check it out sometime.
How many stops to Newport Mall. I am in Manhattan. Do I take the path?
@@ruthmedina4732where in Manhattan?
What train runs from JFK airport to Jersey City ??
None. You can take the subway and change in Manhattan. I can look up the exact details later if you want.

Your title says New Jersey but your video says Jersey City. What is the correct place?
Jersey city is in New Jersey.
How hard to park there?
There is a parking garage near Newport and Grove street stations, that I know for sure. I don’t recommend parking in Manhattan lol.
DON'T LET PATH SEE THIS!!!
More confused now than before I watched this. I think you scanned a metro card but it was a path train and I thought they had their own ticket.
They used the metro card. Don’t know what’s confusing about that.
Path does have their own tickets, but they accept metrocard as well. They do not accept single use metrocards to my knowledge

I take nj transit
Nice! Haven't been with them yet
Nj tranit ticket from nyc penn station to Newark penn station is like 2 dollars more expensive than the path

the path train photo ban...
Ah yeah the one place where apparently the rights of photographers don't matter.
@@davidng2336 I contacted my politicians about it. Hopefully they will teach Port Authority a lesson about their unconstitutional policy.
