I was there for the first performance after the Tony’s and it was such a privilege to be in that audience! Every single cast member was on their A game and the audience was sooooo supportive and enthusiastic. Never had a theater experience like that before! Super happy I got the ticket months and months ago. My $100 ticket was selling for $600 by show night!
I read that on social media and in the press room people were writing that Jonathan Groff not having a Tony was like Leo dicaprio with the Oscar! Aside from his phenomenal King George he was in a lot of plays and musicals of every kind, always interesting choices. One last thimg, his first nomination was for lead in Spring awakening, one of the youngest to ever been nominated, he had just turned 22,and was unbelievably good in a difficult role;that musical was the Rent of the 2000s,brought a whole new generation to the theater, and it is an amazing piece of art Thank you for uploading this video, it's lovely 😍
Groff and the cast and crew deserved all the awards and praises for this spectacular production. Was bummed Maria and Lindsay didn’t take their respective categories, but it all can’t be a perfect turnaround for the famous flop that’s now a hit. Looking forward to the filmed version to be able to watch over and over. Such a great show. 👏
I was there! 🎉 It was one of the most amazing live theater moments. This is why Broadway is special. I love that he and the cast took it all in and allowed us to spontaneously celebrate them.
I was there on Tony day during the matinee and the same thing happened. The audience went nuts & the show stopped for around 5 minutes. A lot of folks in the audience were tears too. What a moment!
I was on the first row center at this show on Friday night May 24th. It was an amazing experience. The show and these actors so deserved their Tony awards. I’m just sorry that Lindsay didn’t win also.
Love this but lets hope they are filming multiple performance of this show as filming right after all its Tony wins was a bad idea -- as the audience response often gets in the way of the actual production..
With Hamilton they also filmed it without an audience so they could cut it together more coherently, and with closer camera angles. Safe bet the ten minutes of applause won’t be in the final version
When you say than the evening performance the video was actually from the first performance post Tony win on Tuesday not Wednesday night. The video of him not turning around was Wednesday mat. You didn’t post a video of Wednesday eve
I hope it lasts until July 7. You have something better to do than spend 2 minutes to be kind to what seems to be a nice human being? Stop being so delicate.
It will be what the audience makes it. The love and enthusiasm theatre goers have for this show and this cast can’t be stifled. With only a handful of performances left, they are the last to see it live and in person at the Hudson. Considering that and what they paid for their ticket, they have the right to be as jubilant as they want.
they're filming the play just like Hamilton YAAAASS!!! 🤩🥲🥰👏👏👏. and I'm totally down for these long-in-the-making good karma meta moments, it's true for Merrily but also for Jonathan Groff, who many have always felt that he should've won something for Hamilton. the King George effect is Loki levels of zeitgeist because of his version and has persisted for years and years, so adulation and tears well deserved for everybody getting the Tony they deserve. oh and I hope the film company captured these meta moments of them celebrating their Tony wins in the most appropriate song for it, written nearly a half century earlier. again one of those rare life moments that should be captured and immortalized.

He waited 17 years for that first win - no wonder he got emotional
J. Groff is such a BEAUTIFUL man. So happy he recieved this acknowledgement and trophy!

Awwwww! He earned that award, and it's sweet that he is moved by all the love he gets!
Well deserved!! So happily "MERRILY" is being recorded for posterity.

Now, that's a deserving standing ovation!

I think it's wonderful.

This is heartwarming, and absolutely worth breaking the fourth Wall!!!
The first video was actually from the performance BEFORE the tonys on Sunday! Second video was from after the tonys, they don’t matinees on Tuesdays
I totally expected Jonathan to give that speech in the scene while receiving the real tony 😂
I do hope it will be available on physical media and just b restricted to streaming.

I think it’s really sweet, but I hope there isn’t that long extended applause for all remaining shows.

Why? Let them cheer, the actors worked hard for it.
