Its great that folk take time to set up these instructional videos. Thanks! This one, however, assumes the possession of a smart phone! My Zumo XT will, I hope, show me where the nearest hotel or fuel station is on any future trips.
Yes it has an extensive database already. The phone helps with up to date reviews and so on. A fun game to play is hotel roulette. I did it in Spain. You ride until you are tired, then search for lodging and stay at the first result in the list.
Many thanks this was a fantastic walk through for a retired returned to bikes in my retirement Thought I was gonna take hammer to garmin but found your video, aaaaah time for a beer Cheers
Nice vid and saved as my Zumo is in the post, do you know if I can pair a headset at a later date as the one I’ve ordered is on back order and won’t be here when the Zumo arrives
Bought one of these the other day, and thanks to your video, it all works as it should. I'm new to all this data thing, and I wonder if I could ask you a quick question as to how much data do you think I would need to buy. I would on average ride about 8 hrs a day when on the continent, maybe a bit less sometimes in say a 10 day period. Thank you for taking the time to do these videos. It's much appreciated. I'm looking forward to some more of your videos, on the Garmin XT.
It's hard to say exactly but I have a 10GB per month plan on my phone and in the summer I rode all day Sunday four weeks in a row and I still used less than one GB. The device really doesn't use much data for traffic and weather. I'd start with maybe 2GB and see how you get on. Even that's probably too much.
Thanks very much for your advice. I will do as you have suggested and start with 2GB's This is the best part of the Internet, finding people like you who go that extra mile to help other people out. Thanks again. 👍👍
HI Joseph just bought this unit and followed your set up video. Everything is as it should except the phone symbol does not show up o the unit. When I check it does say it is connected via Garmin Drive. Do I need to something more. Great videos and most informative especially on BaseCamp. Many thanks Peter
Hi Peter. You won't see the phone icon unless you have a voice capable Bluetooth headset connected. I experienced the same issue. The XT doesn't have an integrated microphone so you won't see or be able to use the phone features without a headset. Thanks for the feedback.
Hi, Great videos! I also have the Garmin Portable Friction Mount and I see that you attached the Zumo XT to it. Can you tell me what adapter bracket you used?
Hi Michael. I just used the car bracket. This comes with the Zumo in Europe. I think it doesn't come with the device in certain markets. Here is the kit buy.garmin.com/en-GB/GB/p/pn/010-12953-01. The bracket can be snapped to the friction mount ball joint instead of the suction mount.
I can't seem to find an answer to this question. Do you need to have the Zumo XT paired to a headset in order for smart notifications to work? I'm not using a headset (yet) and don't see the smart notification icon under bluetooth settings on the Zumo (this Drive) icon is there.
Hi there, massive thanks for the vids/help so far. Upgraded from 590 to XT . Spent many hours learning basecamp and now can’t get it to recognise my XT. Help! Want to plan a route on basecamp and send to XT . How on earth do you do that 🙄👍
Ok so first things first. Are you connecting to the computer via a hub or directly using a USB port on the device. If it's via a hub try connecting directly. If that doesn't work try using a different cable. If that doesn't work try connecting directly to a different PC. The devices can be temperamental about cables and ports. If all of that fails, send the route to an SD card and then insert that in the device and it can pick up the route from there. If you are still getting nowhere contact me and we'll see if we can figure it out over skype.
@@JosephByrne Hi , thanks for that, I’m connecting with the supplied cable to the usb on my computer, windows 10. Tried both ports, I’ll get another cable. I’ve sent a route to my 590 then Bluetoothed it to the XT. That’s not a solution though is it! So disappointed , you’ve helped me get this far, I felt confident in planning a route & now this 😢 I may come back to you on progress. Hopefully
@@JosephByrne Hi there, so I’ve used a new quality usb cable for the XT. Still not recognised. I can import from the sd card or Bluetooth from my 590 to XT. The XT is recognised by the PC but still not by basecamp. Just can’t get my head around why a Garmin device is not seen by their software. Feels like a waste £400 for a brighter screen😤Baffled .
@@grahamholderness6558 Ok so try it on another computer, mate's or wife's or one from work if you can. If it still fails on another computer it sounds like an issue with the device so send it back under warranty and get a replacement. They are really good with their warranties and returns. The replacement device should hopefully work ok. Mine worked fine on Mac, PC and MacBook all 1st time so it sounds like a fault with the device.
@@JosephByrne Hi , yes I’ll try another PC . It must be faulty surely. Otherwise it’s just not a usable product, I love the look of the XT much better so I’m determined to get somewhere. Many thanks for your videos/help, really got me out of a blind alley with basecamp. Much appreciated 👍 Onwards to the next chapter of this saga😆
great clips, i can only get music to come to my head set and not directions, i can start or stop music via garmin so it is connected but do not get any directions that comes from the garmin device its zumo xt can you help
So it could be that the volume for your navigation instructions is set too low. You can find that if you tap *Volume* then *Mixer.* Or it could be that your headset is connected for music only. I think the Garmin sends the navigation instructions over voice (like as if it's a phone conversation) so check that your headset is connected for voice and audio. If you have a Bluetooth speaker lying around the house try to connect it to that and see if you hear the navigation instructions. If you do then it's an issue with your headset.
@@JosephByrne thank you , tried another bluetooth speaker and instructions do come through. Its odd because i can here everything through the head set other than directions. thank you for your help

@@grounded7362 Yes it can absolutely be used stand alone without a mobile phone. If you connect it to your phone you get extra information such as weather and traffic updates but it will work perfectly on it's own without any access to a network. The satellites it uses to navigate are free and don't require a subscription. That's one of the big advantages of a stand alone device. It stands alone.
