ATLAS by Axel Barthélémy

Architecture, the first of the major arts, arouses the admiration of the general public. Ranging from pyramids to skyscrapers as well as cathedrals, our monuments aim to reach for the heavens. Alongside this fervor for the built environment, construction workers seem somewhat forgotten, subjected to the elements and work-related illness: deafness, cancer... As product designers, it is our duty to improve the living and working conditions of those who build our world. Developed during my master's degree at ENSAAMA, Atlas is a handling assistant created for the renovation craftsmen to reduce the risk of musculoskeletal disorders. In this way, the product was optimised to move heavy loads over long distances, climb stairs or lift the load up to 2.5 metres without any effort. Atlas is presented as a central anthracite mast on which an orange accessory can be plugged for each need : venturi vacuum pump, counterweight support and many others... This compact and robust system is very versatile, using the remote control, the user selects the appropriate drive mode for the task in hand (wheel drive, stairlift, lift). For more simplicity, Atlas revisits the formal identity of this type of tool through curved shapes and a hierarchy of colours.
