So from a technical perspective, the old model was a serial cable and the new model is a USB. Serial is not hot swappable and requires a reboot of a system when you unplug or plug it in. USB is hot swappable, meaning you do not need to power the machine off prior to unplugging or plugging it in. You won't fry anything with a USB cable.
I think they gave the designers the day off when they decided on what changes to make to the R58. They could have done much better. Even leaving it alone would have been better.
SpeakNup agreed!! The shot timer and side panels are nice aesthetics. I don’t know if I like a cup tray that I can’t remove - on the fence on that. The feet are an aberration. If I were in the market and dead set on a rocket I would be looking for a prior gen on aesthetics alone. Choosing on looks alone for a DB, I would be looking at an ECM or Profitec only now. Rocket is not winning in looks dept right now.
I think a Wemo switch is a great programmable auto on/off option. If works with a wide range of machines, allows for multiple times of day for days of week. Allows on demand control. Voice control from smartphones.
I actually like the way it looks. Echoing what others are saying, the feet are disappointing, but I will say I like the tech upgrades. It's a welcomed change from the other models.
Wow, those feet...whoever came up with that design should be fired. And why not the whole PID on the machine. They put the timer and that already “ruins” the classic, clean look.
i agree. If they can't find a permanent home on the machine somewhere, instead of just hanging on the side where it's in the way, the least they could do is blutooth it to your phone. Another advantage of this is that you could turn it on/off with the app.
@@swedishfishinsweden While I agree that blutooth is less than ideal, I've always found that it works well enough for this type of application. It's not as though we are talking about streaming music or video.
thanks for showing the two machines side by side. Helpful for me to see the difference.
Oh wow. I like the scheduling thingy

Same thing with a smart plug on the power connection (I have an older R58 with a smart plug).
Boo on the feet! Rocket change it back or give people the option. The rocket nozzle feet were waaay cooler.
The rocket can't fly without the nozzle

The new feet ruin the look. The new fancy tablet almost makes up for it.
Those feet remind me of the look of an otherwise decent looking sedan with a giant aftermarket "racing" wing.
Agree
Those feet are noooooo good🤦♂️

Looks like the drip tray is deeper in the new R58. Can you confirm that?
Is it possible to retrofit the old rocket feet back? How are they physically attached to the chassis?
I'd like to know this as well!
Can the r58 handle a small cafe?

Instead of having to plug a phone like box into the machine, why not make a phone app with Bluetooth connectivity?

I don't feel like I've ever had a well functioning, no issues Bluetooth device. All Bluetooth stuff just has connnectivity issues
That feature is on the next model up.

Please review the Lelit brand. Grinder and expresso machine!
The Anna is amazing!
Can your team review the Decent Espresso machine?
Merci pour votre vidéo depuis la France ❤️
How we can update the PID to the new version V1.5 to fix the cronometro timer problem?
Unfortunately the old Rocket feet is gone.
New legs ugly
This has to be the worst coffee machine update ever. Really poor design decisions.
And I WAS going to buy one.....Beeeeep Fail. HELLO Alex Duetto,
The feet belong on a La Marzocco Linea
New feet are dumb. The shot timer and new PID steer away from Rocket's prime design principle: Classic non digital look.
old feet look way better
