      Lol 😂😂
      Barkeater loosely translates to Adirondack which was a derogatory word used by one indigenous group to anothe. It meant they were not good hunters and needed to eat bark to survive the harsh Adirondack winters.

    Always carry the poncho! You could easily be injured on a 'day' hike and that poncho is the start of a good debris shelter! There are many other uses for a poncho, like rain cover, rain water collection, etc. A compass is what keeps you going in a straight line (when possible). In heavy woods, it's very hard to determine your location and to travel efficiently and in bad weather as well! I have heard that the Grayl will leak if it's not carried upright. I like the GI one-quart with nesting cup and stove and I also carry a two-quart canteen with cover and shoulder strap because I live in a fairly arid place! I would add an IFAK and some energy bars if possible! Thank you for the video!

      All solid advice. I certainly see valid points but I'm sure you can agree there is no single set of rules for all climates, terrain, person, scenario. Kits must adapt to many factors. Thanks for watching 👍

    A very practical kit. I don't have the 'survival' bandanna (I always have a regular one in my pocket though), but I carry an oversized bright orange tee shirt in my kit instead as a signal that I can wear. I can't afford the titanium Grayl yet either, but their Ultrapress version is my go-to. This is the first I've seen of your channel; looking forward to more.

    • @BarkEater
      @BarkEater  Місяць тому +1

      Orange shirt is a solid choice actually gives you more square inches if you needed to cut open. I recently discovered since posting this the titanium one weighs more than the geopress I have, who would of guessed. Ultrapress is probably the lightest choice 👍 hey thanks for stopping by and the sub 👍 much appreciated

    Nice setup, no nonsense items in it too. I'd add small binocs, pen and waterproof note, few chem lights (saved our scouting party few times 😂) and some dense calories bars ( I prefer peanut butter in plastic jar). I use modified SADF clone vest as Carrier that has enough space for more items and fit far better than backpack. I do have question about rain gear; what do you do to keep legs dry from knees down in heavy rain? As much as I like gi ponchos, laavvu tent/poncho pattern is superior to it...

    • @BarkEater
      @BarkEater  Місяць тому +1

      Thank you. 👍 yes binocs are a great idea, when deer scouting I have a small pair in my pocket usually. Peanut butter is the best choice I agree. I have US military gortex bottoms that slip over my pants I generally wear if I know its going to be real wet out, and I do pack in my 3 day kit but don't usually pack in this kit. Ohh that vest is a sweet choice I was looking at them a while back. Thanks for stopping by 👍

    Actually, the new Titanium Grayl Geopress is heavier than the original plastic one. If you were to add the stainless steel nesting cup to the original, then the titanium might be lighter. I have a video on my channel showing the new Grayl Geopress Titanium compared to the original. Check it out, and thanks for showing!

    • @BarkEater
      @BarkEater  2 місяці тому

      Seriously, how is that possible that they made the titanium to weigh more. Thanks so much for that info and I definitely will be watching your vid. Thanks for stopping by 👍

    • @alphaomegasurvivalsupply6548
      @alphaomegasurvivalsupply6548 2 місяці тому +1

      @BarkEater no problem, and I thought just like you that the titanium would be lighter. I really like the aspect of less plastic, though, and it would have been awesome if the purified water never touched plastic at all. Perhaps the extra weight comes from the thickness of the outer cup. Once you see my video, it'll all make more sense lol but I would still recommend it. However, the original with the addition of the stainless steel nesting cup shouldn't be slept on either. It's highly capable and isn't lacking compared to the titanium. 👍

    • @BarkEater
      @BarkEater  2 місяці тому

      @alphaomegasurvivalsupply6548 i guess the titanium needs to be thick in order to boil or cook in it and still hold its form for filter use. Makes sense.

      You can blame the television
      shows and the bushcrafty **
      for blurring the lines and
      lumping survival/SHTF/
      WROL/INCH/LARPing/ etc.
      etc. etc. and making a mess
      of everything.
      It's like everything else. You
      just have to watch and determine for yourself if it's
      ** or not. Discard the gear whores.
      You have to dig through many
      tons of rocks to find a diamond, and the diamonds are out there
      Good Luck

      @@BarkEaterright on, great video. The more videos like this, the better, individually but also nationally. Our country is about to enter an extremely turbulent era. Aside from full-on SHTF, just a day hiker in the brush can use these items. I got lost in my local SoCal mountains a couple weeks ago after a wild fire had destroyed many defined trails and what grew back was a mess and we got lost descending. Just today, a man in a Santa Cruz canyon survived 10 days in the wilderness, he would've been much more comfortable had he had half of the items in yet vid
