Thanks Mike, it took 1hr to set up and that also included configuring my Ft991a and the drivers. Made a few adjustments to enable the 991 to communicate with RumLOGNG. Just now seeing this video. Been using RumLogNG for years. A feature added this year that was previously only possible with another less advertised app from the software author is using ethernet for CAT control. With an IC-7610, 9700, or 705 and the radio is connected by ethernet or wireless, the serial connection for CAT control is not necessary. In the Preferences->TX1 (or TX2)->Interface, choose 'Icom Server'. Fill-in the port information that matches the 'Network' information in the settings tab of your Icom's radio menu and you are connected via ethernet. Depending on your home router setup and using port forwarding, it is possible to remote your radio.
This is great software - I first downloaded this software like 12+ years ago, and I keep updating it whenever there is an update....but I have never started using it. I am still logging on HRD. I also bought the RumLog app for my iPad, to use for logging in the field, and have never used that either. I think the learning curve has stopped me from moving over from HRD (lazy to learn a new system). Also, everything is setup for me already on HRD, so to start over on new software has made me hesitant. One day I will get to it though - thanks Mike

By the way, I found a way to add POTA spots to the Dx Cluster feed using a Ham Alert trigger. You can also modify the user fields to generate a log upload-able to pota. I'm so new at this, I'll be starting with a paper log, but cool to at least know for hunting I can use the cluster and band map windows!
Thanks for the demo on how to configure Rumlogng, been using windows to run the station and getting a bit fed up with it. So I managed to get the old log ADIF into Rumlog, done some basic configure, but your video will help me fine tune it a bit. But I do have 1 question, using digital software, either JTDX or WSJTX, how do you get communicate with Rumlog? Any tips would be great.
Mike hi, you did not mention but I am curious if you use the icloud synced logbook with rumlogng AND rumlogng2go. I have problem with logbook not syncing between mac and ios, but syncs between my two macs……. :/ for the love of God i can not get to the bottom of it and posting a question on the rumlogng2go forum i got no answers
I'm stuck at getting an appropriate device to show up in the RUMlogNG device select. When I plug in the radio I see a USB to Serial device appear in the macbook's system info, but when I open RUMlogNG to set a device, it doesn't appear. The only device that appears in the selection is a Bluetooth device which I'm sure is not appropriate. Although some people have said no driver needs to be installed (there's already an appropriate driver) I also tried installing the Silicon Labs USB to UART driver on my macbook pro with Apple M1 Max. I downloaded the recommended driver. When I run the installer it says it installed but I don't see the USB to UART driver. Also doesn't show up in RUNlogNG. Frustrating.
Sorry for the late response. Hopefully you've got it figured out by now but if not, make sure no other program is connected to your radio. For example, if WSJT-X is running, that will tie up the port and RUMlogNG won't respond to your radio and vice versa when I'm using RUMlogNG and switch to WSJT-X I have to un-check the Use Cat button in RUMlogNG.
@@hamradiotube Thank you so much for this comment! Have been pulling my hair out for 2 days trying to fix a "Rig Control Error" when I had RUMlogNG and WSJTX running at the same time.
Well presented video tutorial. Thank you. Only prob is that my macbook pro didn't watch it as after following all the steps to download the driver it was successfully installed (in Apps) and a check on the system setup that you show , revealed no trace of it under USB. Clicking on the app just brings up a message telling me how I can delete it! Have I missed something or is RUMLogNG incompatible with my Mac?
Having delved deeper into this problem I found that my Macbook pro blocks the installation because the Silicon Labs program is no longer compatible with a modern MAc system and needs updating. Unfortunately this means that until Silicon Labs pull their corporate finger out and update it, that Rumlog is no longer usable.
Thanks Mike, Great presentation! Great Info! I can't get the frequency to track between my MBP and IC-7610. Silicon Labs Driver checks out, Identical Tx rig preference settings as yours on RumLogNG, cable plugged in, not sure what the 7610's menu settings should be? I don't get a magic window saying IC-7610 RTTY connected to usbserial-21330. All I want for Christmas is for my frequency to track, please, anyone. 📟

I see the preferences, but I am looking for details about how best to connect the radio to the Macbook. I struggle to get the Mac to recognize the Radio and what cable to use.

The 878 is not one of the radios listed with the software. I'm using the programming cable that came with the radio. So, that may be the problem. Bottom line: what did you do to make CHIRP work with Anytone 878UVII+....if you have tried with that radio, BTW, your videos are great
If it’s not in the list of radios on Chirp it’s not supported by chirp. I don’t have that radio. You’d likely have to use the stock software from the manufacturer.
