    Glad to see cars going around the Rock again. Almost brings a tear to my eye.

    Super happy to see someone reopening a race track instead of closing. Refreshing. Great video as always.

    Hey, great video. You might be happy to learn that Rockingham in the UK is now no longer a carpark. Currently, we're using it to film UA-cam content, but hope to host driving days and events there in the future :)

      That's great news. I'd love to get over there and drive it. Lots of modern history there with the BTCC etc. running there in addition to Top Gear and 5th Gear filming there.

    Hey man really nice episode, loved the history aspect of it, but also way to drive man!!!

      Lol, thanks! (and very much appreciate the 'super!) I'm definitely not a professional, but I try to be a worthy dance partner for the old girl. Glad you enjoyed this one!

      @@LapoftheWorld Track surface was pretty rough...low cost track rental, but much more abuse on tires.

    • @LapoftheWorld
      @LapoftheWorld  2 роки тому

      Oh yeah. I think the folks on streets fared a little better, but almost everyone I talked to there running a dedicated track tire was having issues, or cording them after just a day.

    Nice! I’ve been eyeing an event there, but the lodging options seem very limited. Have you found anything good that is nearby?

    • @LapoftheWorld
      @LapoftheWorld  2 роки тому +1

      1) Pay attention to the track layout for the events here, nothing against them as they have their place, but some of them are more geared to the novice crowd and add a couple of tight chicanes to keep speeds down on the banking.
      2) With lodging I stayed up in south Aberdeen where there are most of your usual hotel chains some of which have decent ratings. I was flying solo so the Quality Inn was "good enough" although I'd stop short of recommending it. If you want the posh experience Pinehurst is also within a half hour or so of the track and there are some much nicer places to stay there (or so I've heard).

      Thank you for the detailed information. It can sometimes be hard to know what to expect in some of these more rural and unfamiliar areas. It was nice to briefly meet you, even if it was too crowded and noisy to talk at the event. I hope to catch you at some future autocross or track day. Maybe at Flatrock someday! 😎

      NASA ran once here since reopening, so this will be the second time. I’m very excited.

    Another interesting video! I was wondering what it was like to run at the Rock.

    About time. Absolutely criminal how it sat abandoned for no reason. Maybe this is why it ended up in iRacing?

    If only the same thing could happen to the UK's own Rockingham Speedway.
    It's being used as used car storage at the moment, so who knows how long it will be before bits of the track go missing.

    • @LapoftheWorld
      @LapoftheWorld  2 роки тому

      Right! I don't know the whole story there, but it always seemed that place (UK Rockingham) was used pretty regularly to then just up and close shop. I made a point to put the "NC" in the title so as not to troll anyone on that account.

    how's the runoff? lots of walls!

    • @LapoftheWorld
      @LapoftheWorld  2 роки тому

      It is a little hit or miss in the literal sense. Check out the second half of the "just the laps" follow-up video. In the second half of that I talk through turn by turn. The TL/DW is that the heaviest braking zone does have decent escape options, but there are also a few places you could definitely get in trouble. Obviously if something goes wrong in the banking then you're probably having a bad time, but there's enough width that if you just mess up a little you could still spin or slide and not make it to a wall if you just abort and don't spend too long trying to correct.

    I've watched this one several times and thoroughly enjoyed each watch. Apparently Rockingham's owners are trying to attract NASCAR to add the track to the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series schedule as NASCAR is looking to expanding to 40 races (Which I personally think it's a bot much, would rather see 2 additional races imo).
    Do you think NASCAR should use the roval configuration if NASCAR makes it's return to the Rock someday??

    • @LapoftheWorld
      @LapoftheWorld  2 роки тому

      They'd have some work to do to I think both widen some and address some potential safety question marks to have a herd of 'Cup cars run this configuration. That said, it'd be something akin to the short-track of road courses for them and would probably see more contact/attrition than most.

    • @RJLightning68
      @RJLightning68 2 роки тому

      @@LapoftheWorld I see, but I'm glad you got to run the roval, simply an underrated track. I wanna run it someday in my personal dream car (Bet you can guess what it is) to see what it'd be like.
      I wouldn't wanna pull a Bubba Wallace if you know what I mean.
      Think Gridlife would be perfect for Rockingham??

    • @LapoftheWorld
      @LapoftheWorld  2 роки тому

      @@RJLightning68 Definitely worth driving and I think if NASA is running events there then GridLife could totally work.
