Dean Thompson is an underrated driver. He switched from Niece Motorsports to the newly-rebranded TRICON Garage (formerly DGR-Crosley/David Gililand Racing), and showed promise early on. However, I'd say he underperformed due to a couple of problems. 1. The struggles that TRICON Garage had as a newly rebranded team, which included switching from Ford to Toyota and basically having the same equipment that the DGR organization had. 2. The lack of experience in eventual top-tier Truck Series equipment to about mid-pack equipment. 3. The injuries (if he sustained any) in the crash at Texas. Now, I'm going to compare the 2023 Stats for Dean Thompson and his teammates of Tanner Gray, Taylor Gray and Corey Heim. Corey Heim: In 22 of 23 Truck Series Starts, He scored 3 Wins, 12 Top 5s, 19 Top 10s, Led 611 of 3110 Laps Run, 4 Poles, 21 Lead Lap Finishes, 1 DNF, An Average Start of 7.0, An Average Finish of 6.8, and Finished 3rd in the Final Points Standings. Tanner Gray: In 23 Truck Series Starts, He scored 0 Wins, 3 Top 5s, 6 Top 10s, Led 26 of 3241 Laps Run, 1 Pole, 14 Lead Lap Finishes, 3 DNFs, An Average Start of 13.4, An Average Finish of 16.7, and Finished 14th in the Final Points Standings. Taylor Gray: In 20 of 23 Truck Series Starts, He scored 0 Wins, 3 Top 5s, 6 Top 10s, Led 2 of 2824 Laps Run, 0 Poles, 15 Lead Lap Finishes, 1 DNF, An Average Start of 16.1, An Average Finish of 14.6, and Finished 15th in the Final Points Standings. Dean Thompson: In 23 Truck Series Starts, He scored 0 Wins, 2 Top 5s, 5 Top 10s, Led 0 of 5489 Laps Run, 0 Poles, 8 Lead Lap Finishes, 10 DNFs, An Average Start of 19.4, An Average Finish of 22.3, and Finished 20th in the Final Points Standings. Basically, I would say that with the 2023 Season behind Dean Thompson, he can put himself back together and get better results with TRICON Garage in 2024.
I'm really glad you made this video. Dean's unfortunate crashes were something I noticed but I wasn't sure how noticeable it was to the community. I'm not a fan or hater of Dean Thompson but I do hope he can have better results next season.
Went into this video with expectations I was gonna be bashed but I appreciate how you presented it. While it sucked I learned a ton and took accountability for every one of those incidents. God has some sort of crazy plan and this was just a challenge. Ready to be better next year and hopefully give you something way cooler to talk about hahaha
Thanks for the support! My intent is never to bash any drivers. And especially in this case my intent was to talk about how much bad luck you faced this season. Good luck in 2024, you’re improving a lot!
Funny story when Dean was in the #40 and one of the races he wrecked out on Twitter i said "gotta love irrelevant or awful drivers changing the out come of the race" and he just replied and said "Thanks" i thought it was kinda funny
Dean should race for a team that doesn’t prioritize only one driver. Heim is Toyota’s prodigy (until they lose him) so ofc Heim gets superior equipment compared to both the Gray brothers and Thompson
Arguably I would say the most unluckest driver/team was Beard Motorsports my favorite team in NASCAR especially this year like the team had plenty of good pace and speed but would always get taken out by some stupid wreck Cough duel race and Atlanta I Hope Beard Motorsports can bounce back this year and not have horrible luck I hate to see my team struggle so badly and it's none of their fault it just horrible luck man.
Yeah they are really unlucky. I remember Brendan gaughan leading one time at dega then flipping. I think it’s mostly because they primarily run superspeedways, so it seems like they wreck a lot
Dean Thompson was also wrecked out of the lead of the ARCA race at Mid Ohio by Sean Hingorani which led to Tyler Ankrum winning
I felt really bad for Dean thompson. I might have been a bit too harsh in my top 5 worst truck drivers video. Heck, I only put him there for the DNFs

Dean Thompson my favorite caution

Hoping he gets a good ride next year
he's returning to Tricon
Dean Thompson 2023 = Austin Dillon 2023
Dale Jr 2007 was really unlucky too
Hope he can run consistently Charlotte proves how he can run
He had speed. No doubt. But man his luck was horrible.
Whenever he wasn't running decently it was always failures or incidents mostly not of his fault
Arguably I would say the most unluckest driver/team was Beard Motorsports my favorite team in NASCAR especially this year like the team had plenty of good pace and speed but would always get taken out by some stupid wreck

8:44 That Was Actually Caused By Haliie Deegan Making It 3 Wide
Come on he’s pretty lucky to still have a ride
Nah i don't say lucky hes skilled enough just has to not have others wreck him out
