When I was in seventh grade my art teacher had us make up artwork. I went home and got toilet paper rolls and paper towel rolls and started making toy soldiers and nut crackers and other things. It was great fun. Ideas just came. Fast forward to my thirties when I had pre school children. I could not afford to send them to preschool, so I brought out the toilet paper rolls and came up with new ideas. This time I taught my little ones to make butterflies and bats, caterpillars and anything I could think of. Once I got started the ideas flowed out of my mind. My kids and I had lots of fun. I taught all of them 2 years of pre school. It’s not that hard to find ways to let your creativity shine. And children don’t expect perfection. They just want to have fun. None of my idea required a lot of money. It was all stuff I normally had,, like glue, small paint jars, colored paper, stuff like that. Every month we made a large calendar, which they decorated. We cut out squares of apples for September, pumpkins 🎃 or little ghosts for October. I wrote a number on each one from one to thirty or thirty one and we stuck them on the square representing that day of the month.We had a large picture window in our front room. We would decorate that window representing the theme of the month. We made up songs, little skits and costumes. My kids and I have fond memories of that period of their lives.
My mom was like you - endlessly creative and imaginative. One all my siblings and I became school age, she worked in a public pre K school and later owned a private preschool for many years. I know your children were blessed to have you, as I know I was and still am -- she still lives in those precious memories. My own children were fortunate to have her up to adulthood.

They didn’t always want to learn but we struggled along the best we could. Today they are all grown and everyone of them can do at least one thing I taught them. I’ve even been able to teach some of my grandchildren a few things. I wasn’t as successful with them as with their parents. But at least we have had some fun together. I’m now crocheting a blanket for each member of my family. There are a lot of them and I’m halfway through. I tell them that they can have a hug from me Grandma 👵 anytime they want. All they have to do is wrap up in their blanket.
