For some reason the research on male chimps reconciling with sex after fights makes me think of Gilgamesh meeting his best friend forever. The ancient Athenian gymnasium fights also comes to mind. We are so alike when there is less of a taboo
Seb you did such a great job!! Fun fact: animal hermaphroditism can go both ways, mtf and ftm. Is addition in the beef industry, at AI centres, when collecting bull semen, farmers actually use males to stimulate other males!!
Thank you very much for such an amazing episode ❤! I love how much organized and well explained information was shared 😍! I could listen forever to new examples heheh. It is interesting that, even though many examples were of mainstream animals in the media, I have never heard any mention of the queer behaviours they have! This kind of content highlighting what is never commented is very important! Awesome piece! 😊
Yes!! The lesbian lizards would have been an great species to cover! What I haven’t touched is queerness amongst solitary species where the social benefit of queerness isn’t exactly applicable or queer species who are known to die shorty after mating (ex.octopuses). It’s a very wild world out there
One last comment on this, I think what would make this conversation more deeper is if there was someone here who could bring up the other side to Sebastian's arguments. I feel like what I'm hearing is one perspective being sold as the undeniable truth.
I'm a little confused by the part where it's said that patriarchies don't exist in the animal world. But I just looked up after I heard that, are their any animals that are patriarchal, and it said Chimpanzees are patriarchal. So, I'm wondering why Sebastian would say that.
Sebastian is so knowledgeable and cute, does he have a channel of his own? 🤣🤣🥰
Omg he should!!
I would definitely subscribe! More queer stem content is needed hihihi 😝

Social construct really seems to attempt to separate us from our fellow living beings on this earth 🌍
We need more and more such podcasts... seriously
Thank you 💕
Binging your podcast currently!! It is so so thoughtful & informative AND fun/entertaining. Wish I had found y’all sooner! 💕
I feel educated. I'm happy that most scientists nowadays don't stop themselves from studying subjects due to social constraints. Progress.
Thanks for watching 💕

So glad you enjoyed it. We love learning about queer animals. Maybe it needs a part 2 💕
@@QueerCollective Yes please!! That would be awesome! ❤️😍
Definately need a part 2, you haven't even got to the lesbian lizards or male swans yet!
🦎❤️🦎
We have 1500 examples to go through. Truly could go on forever!

Interesting. Would love to hear what you have in mind regarding the other side? We're certainly open to suggestions!

I believe Seb said chimps are more so hierarchical rather than patriarchal
I like this one.
It's different and interesting.
Thanks for tuning in!
