- I wanted to share how I setup elevon mixing for my Tuffwing over the weekend. This worked great and I was able to fly with the configuration used in this video. There's probably more than one way to set this up so if you have other approaches then please share them.
I picked up a used Popwing to use with my Taranis and found your tutorial. Thanks for doing this video! It will help me out so much to get started.
DarkHorse72 No problem at all. Thanks for watching. Glad it helped.
No fluff, straight to the subject, ... Fantastic video and very informative!
Thank You
Bill Kenny No problem. Appreciate it and thanks for the feedback.
This was a huge wrestle for me till I found your approach. Doing the job with the aircraft facing forward and powered up is a huge plus. At the end the surfaces were moving together but the wrong way. I had to reverse both controls in the servos page (7). All sweet. THANKYOU !!!
Peter Hardy-Atkins No problem at all. Glad it helped!
Now maybe if I practice doing this about a thousand times I will remember? For some reason, maybe age related I have a very hard time doing these simple things! Thanks for posting these vids!
It's a good way for learning how elevons works! Very nice radio: programming and learning at the same time :) Thanks for sharing Dennis
You bet. Thank you for following along :)
Thank you, Dennis! I just set up a Weasel-Trek slope glider and your video saved me a lot of frustration.
Very glad to hear that. Thanks for the feedback.
Hi Dennis, great job! This is the best & easiest way for OpenTX delta wing setup that I've found in UA-cam.
Thank so much, Cliff. I really like how easy it is to setup with the Taranis and OpenTX. Take care.
You are the best....did not have a clue how to setup tranais for a wing was a breeze, works great thanks man
Glad to hear it helped. Thanks for the feedback.
Thank you so much mate, this video very help me for setting my delta wing with taranis x9d too.
Have a nice flight, Cheers from indonesia :))
Thanks for this video, Dennis! I'm so glad that I stumbled upon it... I am scratch building a blunt nose versa wing and I have a Taranis that I am going to pair it with... This is going to be awesome...
Cool. Let me know how it goes. Best of luck with your build.
You Guy always choose the hard way, for the new ones taranis got the easy follow step by step flying wing set up.
Great explanation, thank you. Regards from Argentina.
man, wish this video was up about two months ago. upgraded my t9x to open tx and searched hi and low for help on how to do this for my FliteTest Versa. Finally stumbled on it.
I hear you Trent. It took a bit of trial and error, but I was glad to finally get this working. I was a little bit nervous at first given I had never configured this type of mixing from scratch but it turned out to be fairly straightforward. Thanks for the comment and glad you get it working as well.
6 minutes of golden information! Thanks man!
Glad to hear it helped. Thanks for the good words, Waymond.
being a wing newb and coming from a quadcopter this has helped a lot!
Glad to hear that. Good luck with your wing. It's so much fun to fly!
La vidéo la plus simple et la plus instructives merci !!
Thanks. This video helped me today.
Thank you how beautiful that explanation was
No problem. Thanks for the good words.
A nice clear explanation. Thanks. Peter
Thanks, Peter. I appreciate the good words.
this video helped me with my n00b problem, thank you sir!
No problem. Glad to hear it helped.
Dennis make some excellent videos for sure. Keep up the great work, I watch all of them even if they aren't relevant to me haha
Thank you! I appreciate the kind words. Take care.
Nice job Dennis.
Trent I use er9x on my 9x and it is pretty much the same setup for y versa wing. And yes it takes a while to find a good tut for it.
Thanks Dennis I am getting into planes and just ordered the new Conergence PNP plane/quad all in one from Horizon and hope this helps me set it up on my Taranis. But there setup has 2 motors up front that tilt and a rear motor mounted solid no rudder or ailerons on tail . So hope this lets me install my receiver and fly it.
I've seen that model and it looks like a blast! Good luck with your setup and please let us know how it goes.
Will do.
Excellent tutorial!
Hey thanks for the feedback. It's very much appreciated.
just what i was looking for! thanks
No problem. Glad it helped.
☺️🙏thank you great video ✌️🖖
I really wish they were more up-to-date videos on how to set up a delta wing with a Taranis. My radio and wing is set up to have ch1 as left aileron, Channel 2 to R aileron and channel 3 throttle. When I do the mixing like this video, I don’t get the same results. :(
Nice explanation. Does also work on the Special Edition
Great video! I just bought our first wing after being a mini quad guy for the last 2 years. Do you run a flight controller in your wing ? Thanks
Thanks for the feedback. On larger wings I run Pixhawk for mapping purposes. I'm going to do a video soon on putting a Pixfalcon (mini Pixhawk) in a small SweepWings Flinch.
Thanks Dennis. Nice Vid Can you recommend an axis Stabiliser to use for wings
I normally use APM or Pixhawk, but have been looking into Naze32 for a while. Maybe this will help you out: ua-cam.com/video/2dUomn5jPf4/v-deo.html
If I get some time in the near future I'll do a video on this topic. Good luck with your build.
hi dennis, great tutorial video...anyway can i ask, how much expo rates do u use for tuffwing
+Mohd Nizam Sazali Thanks for the feedback. I haven't setup expos yet so I'm working off a linear curve. It love the way it handles without expo but is a bit too agile at times. I'll look into this and let us know if you do the same. Good luck and hope you're having fun with it.
yeah thanks for reply my question, anyway love to hear your findings about suitable expo for wing, i currently fly DIY versa wing from flitetest , its a great plane, but the problem is my elevator seems too sensitive..i try to adjust weight seems not working
Thanks buddy! That was easy!
Ben Morton Glad to hear it and hope you're enjoying the TuffWing. Definitely a fun little wing to fly!
Hi Dennis. You seem to be getting to grips with the Taranis. Can you help with this. I have the Taranis set up with my DJI F450 with Zenmuse gimbal on the right slider. When the slider is in the middle I have up and down movement as you would expect. However, I don't want upward movement and want to use the full slider travel to move from looking forward to 90 deg looking down at full travel for maximum sensitivity. I have tried moving the end points but end up with no travel on the top part of the slider and all 90 deg on the bottom half of the slider. I suspect this will have something to do with sub-trim or extended movement but haven't got my head round it yet. By the way, best radio ever for the price. Love your vids, Cheers
Hey there. Great question. Does this help at all?
FrSky Taranis Gimbal/Servo Custom Range Using Curves
Hey Dennis! Got question related to this a little. On a Taranis, if I click a bit on the trim clicker for a lever in flight, will it reset to center after the power down and restart for a new mission? Does the power down reset the default center? All transmitters may be this way. But I just got to know! Yep. Noob.
+Michael K The trim will stay wherever you set it on restart. It's also specific to the model so you can have different trim settings for each of your model profiles.
OK. Thanks for getting back to Me. Counting clicks is My fall back! I was trying to eliminate a weak link...Me. Thanks for all of Your posts. Most informative.
why not move the Z bend down on your servo and use full throw to give the servo some extra torque. also seems odd that your elevons are trimmed up quite a lot. Is everything balanced correctly? Thanks for the setup tips. :)
Matthew Doherty Not a bad idea. I may give that a try in the future. This thing is so fast and fun to fly. Good luck with your setup.
you can see the servo rods bending ...Thats not good !
nice tutorial though..Wayne
Very helpful. Thanks
Glad it helped. Thanks for the feedback.
Looking to buy one and I did wonder how it worked without a rudder, thanks
WorksopGimp No problem. Good luck with your decision.
10x man, very helpful
No problem. Thanks for the feedback.
Thanks for that helped a lot
No problem. Thanks for watching.
Great vídeo thank you
No problem. Thanks for the feedback.
thanks man! big help:)
+RC and FPV Jonathan No problem at all. Glad it helped.
Hello I did everything you do on your video but my elevator is backwards, everything else looks good. Where would I change the elevator back around. Thanks
I'm doing this from memory but I believe on screen 7 of your model profile you can select the channel and then invert it. You'll notice a little arrow in the table that shows the direction. Just select it and then click to invert. That will reverse your channel. Good luck with your setup.
Are you using the stock antenna?the newest xjt module has an antenna built in,
I'm using the stock setup with my Taranis, yes. Cool regarding the XJT setup. Will have to check that out. Thanks.
DENNIS SO THE NEW TARRANIS IS A VERY GOOD RADIO? AND GREAT RANGE?
Great and Great. That's all I can say about it. I absolutely love it.
thank you so much
+TriniRCmodels No problem. Thanks for watching.
thanx Dennis, do you know how the set up the Arming/Disarming feature with a pixhawk2.1?
Hi Frits, I'm not sure what you mean by arming/disarming feature. Are you asking about the standard arm/disarm sequence?
Thanx Dennis for your reply. I have a flying wing (SonicModell AR 900mm), when the servo's and esc are directly on the receiver, the motor can accidentally spin when touching the Taranis throttle stick. So I want to include the pixhawk and its arming/disarming sequence for safety reasons, but I can't get it to work in Missionplanner.
The two servo's will work correctly, but the ESC keeps beeping and can't be armed as I previously easily managed with a quadcopter. I attached the ESC to Mainout 3 of the Pixhawk2.1 en set it up with RCMAP on channel 3.
Can you help me?
Frits
bonjour denis est une grande aide. J'ai un funjet Ultra je devrais mettre expo négative pour le tournage serrer?
i just got the Strix Alatus wing today and it is saying the up throw should be 7mm and the down throw should be 5mm throw ,,How do i achieve this with the Taranis
The way I would approach this is measure where 7mm and 5mm get you on your elevons and then adjust your endpoints to match. Not a very scientific approach but I can't think of any other way to do it. It would be cool if Taranis offered a way to set the endpoint by just adjusting the sticks to where you want the endpoint to be. Then it would save that. That would be really handy. I'll see if I can come up with anything else. Good luck on your purchase. That looks like a fun wing.
The info on the Alatus is what I was searching for. ...I figured I'd find it in your comments 😉 I loved this video!! Short and sweet, thank you sir!
Thanks! :)
RCfly Luzern No problem. Thanks for watching.
My flaps will not ho up or down. I got left and right and I am using a FC and servors are going into the FC.
Anyone know why my trim only affects one or the other elevon, and not both at the same time?
Senks!!!!
Thanks for the help, but your wing does not have flaps, they're elevons :)
Agreed. I mistakenly referred to them as flaps. You are right that they are elevons.
There are no flaps they are elevons
