I absolutely agree joe but I personally wouldn’t mind locks having a decent dunk rating because they are naturally some of the most athletic on the floor so i feel they should at least be gifted with that

The only offense they should be having a good rating in is slashing just for the fact most defenders are pretty athletic as is. But not better than/equal to a pure slasher.

I think only the 2-way slashing playmaker needs to be addressed 2-way sharps are balanced correctly lock/finishers are fine but the play lock needs to not have contact dunks that’s the problem

Dribbling has been nerfed to the ground. If you are skilled you can still do moves, rarely, going through bodies. Also, people spam X or square which now stops EVERYTHING. If you're having trouble with "dribble GODS" I suggest learning ISO or improving your defensive IQ. You won't run into many Steezo/G-man/LaMonsta/Swante etc glitch type dribblers. You are more likely to run into Grinding DF or Tyceno types with great misdirection or screens, possibly both.

Barnes Agreed and this is why 2K15 is in my opinion the greatest 2K ever. Your player could do anything. Besides demigods that game was GOAT tier and everyone says it was the funnest 2K ever, which is what I value the most. Balancing things makes the game boring. Prime example: Patch 6 on 2K16
I think physicals need more things related to them. For example: rebounding and blocks should be associated with height and vertical Brick wall should be associated with strength Just to name a few
This year they’ve got some smart limitations in the pie charts. Certain builds you cannot get 70 ball handling with at certain heights, or contacts dunks, hard to get up to 13 defensive badges without sacrificing mid/3 ball etc. There’s some very subtle limits they’ve put in place deliberately and it’s worked well. If they allow to totally customise pie charts I imagine it will be almost impossible to stop ridiculous builds being made.

Why would u want to get on 2k and play with a pure sharpshooter instead of a build like a 2 way slashing playmaker or a facilitating finisher ? I can’t think of one star in today’s NBA that’s a straight up pure build. Most All Stars are multi position players that are good at almost everything on the court. Look at big men like Joel Embiid, AD, and Nikola Jokic

That may be true but the defending builds in this game are the obvious choice because they’re just better than everything else. You could still be good in 2k19 with a play sharp or stretch or whatever but in this game you can make any defending build and be fine

Cyclone Gaming Its more about his other builds. His 6”9 Pure defender can only shoot because he gets 10 shooting badges. Most people would only get 3 shooting badges with pure defender, and putting that many points would probably cost them the contact dunks or 30 defence. 2K has certain thresholds which stop people making OP builds, but they’re all broke at legend.
You can’t nerf offense too much, or nobody would play with them. The real issue is that there shouldn’t be a Defensive Only build. All archetypes should be able to play D.
Julio Thom but they try to make the game somewhat realistic and having every build be equally good at playing defense would not be realistic bc some players whole play style is mostly revolved on the defensive end or being able to go to work effectively on both sides of the bell hence the term 2-way players. U can think of a pure lock like Patrick Beverly

But a D only build with no Offense would not appeal to the vast majority of people, and you realistically can't neuter Offense enough to make the Archetype more balanced. Defense should be an option on all Archetypes. You choose how many points you want on D, and the more you spend on Defense, the fewer you have for Offense.

In today’s NBA, there are 0 All Stars that are pure builds. Every single all star in the NBA today is great at multiple aspects of the game. And I feel like on 2k, I should be able to be great at multiple aspects of the game. People are complaining about pure sharpshooters being useless like they enjoy playing on a build that can do nothing but shoot. What’s the point in having all these customization options when creating my player if I’m still gonna end up making a pure sharpshooter just so I can shoot consistently?
This is definitely a fact for defensive builds. I ,personally, put the 2 way slash play 2nd on my list because by now you should be able to stop/contain one. I switched from a non def build, play shot pg(6 fin/17 sht/22 ply/7 def), to a strong def pie chart and (learning defense 1st) having strength in your build defensively is insane. I built a 2 way 3pt facilitator sg(6 fin/18 sht/11 ply/15 def). I use all the skills I've worked on with this player. Since most teams can stop one thing or another you're dominant if you can do everything. Great content Joe keep it up.
This is all facts, but every 2k we continue to find glitchy jump shots and I think high defensive builds will stay strong next year because Ronnie didn’t listen last year when everyone was abusing the pure lock and he said he doesn’t see why they need to be changed.

simple reason 15-16 will always be the best games on this generation of console. They were fun, and everyone could do everything no matter their player. this is fun, and keeps the game lasting all year like 15-16 did. I saw this build day one, and when I saw it got contact dunks off rip, I already knew...2k is all about animation and badges and that build gets the most badges and the best animations.
The only annoying things about locks are the crazy passing lane animations they get, they cover way too much space and they make the person being guarded by a lock shoot inconsistently even if you're wide open
There’s actually a very simple way to fix this problem, and it starts with the pie charts. In my opinion, a “pure pie chart” should be the only way to get HoF badges. If you choose a majority Red pie, then you should be able to get HoF and Gold Def/Reb badges, however you can only get bronze or silver badges in other sections. If you choose split pie chart like majority Red/Green. You will be able to get Gold shooting and Gold Def/Reb, and silver or bronze finishing and Playmaking. So you can make a “Sharp/Lock”, but you won’t be able to get Hof green or HoF red badges. Just Gold. This will force players to have to choose wisely when creating their player. Do you need HoF badges? Is having HoF in 1 area worth having Silver or bronze everywhere else? Would you rather have 2 skills to get gold badges and sacrifice the ability to get HoF badges? It’s just an opinion. If it were up to me, I’d completely remove badges and archetypes/pie charts from the game... but that’s a conversation for another video.

This wouldn't really solve anything. A lot of y'all put way too much faith in these badges to even realize that 90% of them work just as good on gold than on HoF. All it takes is a guy like Joe Knows, Brotha Jones, or Poorboysin to figure that out and put everyone on it, and it's the previous 2 2ks all over again.

BaconOrButter yeah I made a pure playmaker with max wingspan instead. Higher shooting but slightly lower dunking. Higher playmaking and lower defending but the defending evens out bc of the wingspan
The thing that makes the yellow red so broken is that you can speed boost and contact dunk with it, which you shouldn't be able to do. 2k always fucks something up, always a broken build every year
I think you made a good point about the fun aspect. One of the main selling points of this game (not that it needed many due to the already popular fan base) was that we would be able to have an endless amount of different builds to create. For example, you could make an Offensive Threat or Scoring Machine or a Rebounding guard. But because of the meta of the game, it’s completely overran with Defensive builds. Defenders are athletic and have a place in any lineup at any position. However, being able to contact dunk over paint beasts and shooting 40%-50% contested green 3s is just not right. They should be able to have some offensive capacity in their game to where they aren’t a liability, but they shouldn’t be a focal point of a team’s offense.

I legit agree with everything you said. I have a 2-way slash play. In rec/pro-am when facing a team that runs 3 or more locks. It’s soo tuff to pass because the fear of the turnover. And then 2 if you aren’t running with a full team you’re just playing with randoms. You will lose by 40. Against 3-4 clock builds everything has to be super coordinated. It’s annoying.
I just miss the days when you could make your player whatever u wanted when you could make a scoring build and still get 85 defense while being able to shoot the lights out dunk and handle. The whole point in grinding a player out and becoming a 99 overall is so your the best player in the league and an all time player. 2k caps are ass and force people to become role players it’s played out.
And even tho Steph and Harden aren’t two way players, they’re some of the greatest offensive players of all time. They’re not pure sharpshooters. They’re still great at multiple aspects of the game. This man Joe Knows is complaining like he wants us to go back to the 2k17 days where every build was only good at 1 or 2 things. Pure builds are outdated. The only pure sharps in today’s NBA that are relevant are players like JJ Reddick, Kyle Korver, Mathew Delly, etc. who are in their mid to late 30s

KD was used as a rim protector in GS and vastly improved his defense. It's just KD's offense is so much better than his defense that you don't think of him as a two way
Cameron X so lebron is considered a two way now since he sometimes decides to play defense 🤦🏾♂️ and KD getting blocks doesn’t automatically make him a two way he wasn’t even a top three defender on the warriors

Joe i have a 2 way 3pt playmaker with a 79 dunk at 85 overall i get an 84 at 99. Im at 97 overall rn. I also get HOF shooting and defense with an 87 3 and 83 mid.

People don’t even guard there man anymore... they jus pinch the ball handler and bait passes so unrealistic.... cuz in real life if ur playing passing lanes THAT heavy and blitzing certified ball handlers... you’ll get ran off the court every time pick up or real 5v5 the community gotta help 2k realize common basketball principles
i made this build the first day 2k came out. no youtubers no research plus 2k switched the pie charts after i made him so i have a one of a kind 2 way slashing playmaker SG with 90 driving, 73 three point, 78 mid and 88 ball handle.. GOATED!
My team has literally switched to 3 6’9 shooting and defensive sfs, myself as a 6’3 shooting defending pg and a twoway slashing playmaker. We have lost less than ten games in the last two months

Bro you’re absolutely right..it’s the same reason that we have 6’7 SFs being able to either slow down or stop 7 ft and up Centers in the post of just defensive in general. It makes no sense. Locks should def take a hit because pro am just isn’t fun anymore. Last year my pro am team was ranked like 80th in the world and we enjoyed playing as a team but now you run into teams that 5 out and that’s not basketball at all. That’s what all the comp teams run is 5 out and it makes no sense

If you see defenders shooting they either used the shooting defending chart or they sacrificed points to up their shooting but then they only get like 10 max and wont be super super consistent.

Add in the fact he grinds all his builds to 99 in mycareer to get a +5 to all attributes, has gym rat badge which is constant turbo and +4 to athletics, and hes prolly rocking boosts every game

I loved 17 defense but the ankle breakers ever since 17 have been too much. You shouldn’t be fallin over during a snatch back that they spam over and over.
I think ur right about twoways. They should give a couple more defensive badges to non defender builds and maybe buff a couple categories for there defense like lateral quickness

It’s all about badges. The fact they allowed us to choose badges this year allowed this. If you got a 60 3 ball and like 10 shooting badges you’re alright. Even offensive builds with 8 or 9 defensive badges are pretty OP.
Use the build you enjoy most and win games with i personally do not like the 2-wayslashing playmaker, i work well with the slashing playmaker. I see no reason to get 30 defensive badges when i can do almost the same with a 12 defensive badge
The Meta has changed again! I've been trying so long to make a tall quick and strong player like Giannis. But where 2K lets you make an OP build with the skill Piechart they won't let you do that with the physicals! I just want a physical beast! Even if he can only score inside! Just a Quick First Step Slasher with great strength and vertical!
What he might have done is lowered his arms to minimum length (which gets the 69 3pt) and he is a 99.9, which means he had plus 5 to all his attributes instead of the usual plus 4 for being at 99.
Defenders are the strongest, fastest players, they also can jump high. So naturally they'll have a high dunk rating.The shooting on certain defensive builds may be a bit high but the average 2k player will NOT be shooting consistently with it. Only the 1% of 2K players can do that. You mentioned Tony Allen, he was an elite on ball defender AND he could dunk on your head. Same with Bill Russell. SUPER athletic. He jumped over a guy on a fast break, like when Lebron jumped over John Lucas Jr. Good video.

The only offense they should be having a good rating in is slashing just for the fact most defenders are pretty athletic as is. But not better than/equal to a pure slasher.

I think only the 2-way slashing playmaker needs to be addressed 2-way sharps are balanced correctly lock/finishers are fine but the play lock needs to not have contact dunks that’s the problem

FACTS
Dribbling has been nerfed to the ground. If you are skilled you can still do moves, rarely, going through bodies. Also, people spam X or square which now stops EVERYTHING. If you're having trouble with "dribble GODS" I suggest learning ISO or improving your defensive IQ. You won't run into many Steezo/G-man/LaMonsta/Swante etc glitch type dribblers. You are more likely to run into Grinding DF or Tyceno types with great misdirection or screens, possibly both.

And then we complain about how trash the game is... you realize these players are 99 overall without even one 99 attribute. Just take out archetypes, and make everyone good at everything and just let us choose our takeover. It doesn’t really matter if builds are op, it’s what makes the game fun, we want a 99 to feel like a legend who is a 99.

This year they’ve got some smart limitations in the pie charts. Certain builds you cannot get 70 ball handling with at certain heights, or contacts dunks, hard to get up to 13 defensive badges without sacrificing mid/3 ball etc. There’s some very subtle limits they’ve put in place deliberately and it’s worked well. If they allow to totally customise pie charts I imagine it will be almost impossible to stop ridiculous builds being made.

Why would u want to get on 2k and play with a pure sharpshooter instead of a build like a 2 way slashing playmaker or a facilitating finisher ? I can’t think of one star in today’s NBA that’s a straight up pure build. Most All Stars are multi position players that are good at almost everything on the court. Look at big men like Joel Embiid, AD, and Nikola Jokic

Cyclone Gaming Its more about his other builds. His 6”9 Pure defender can only shoot because he gets 10 shooting badges. Most people would only get 3 shooting badges with pure defender, and putting that many points would probably cost them the contact dunks or 30 defence. 2K has certain thresholds which stop people making OP builds, but they’re all broke at legend.
2-way slashing playmaker gets 61 badges even when not legend. Thats over 100 when legend.

The real issue is that there shouldn’t be a Defensive Only build. All archetypes should be able to play D.
Julio Thom but they try to make the game somewhat realistic and having every build be equally good at playing defense would not be realistic bc some players whole play style is mostly revolved on the defensive end or being able to go to work effectively on both sides of the bell hence the term 2-way players. U can think of a pure lock like Patrick Beverly

Defense should be an option on all Archetypes. You choose how many points you want on D, and the more you spend on Defense, the fewer you have for Offense.

In today’s NBA, there are 0 All Stars that are pure builds. Every single all star in the NBA today is great at multiple aspects of the game. And I feel like on 2k, I should be able to be great at multiple aspects of the game. People are complaining about pure sharpshooters being useless like they enjoy playing on a build that can do nothing but shoot. What’s the point in having all these customization options when creating my player if I’m still gonna end up making a pure sharpshooter just so I can shoot consistently?

This is definitely a fact for defensive builds. I ,personally, put the 2 way slash play 2nd on my list because by now you should be able to stop/contain one. I switched from a non def build, play shot pg(6 fin/17 sht/22 ply/7 def), to a strong def pie chart and (learning defense 1st) having strength in your build defensively is insane. I built a 2 way 3pt facilitator sg(6 fin/18 sht/11 ply/15 def). I use all the skills I've worked on with this player. Since most teams can stop one thing or another you're dominant if you can do everything. Great content Joe keep it up.
This is all facts, but every 2k we continue to find glitchy jump shots and I think high defensive builds will stay strong next year because Ronnie didn’t listen last year when everyone was abusing the pure lock and he said he doesn’t see why they need to be changed.

The only annoying things about locks are the crazy passing lane animations they get, they cover way too much space and they make the person being guarded by a lock shoot inconsistently even if you're wide open

There’s actually a very simple way to fix this problem, and it starts with the pie charts.
In my opinion, a “pure pie chart” should be the only way to get HoF badges.
If you choose a majority Red pie, then you should be able to get HoF and Gold Def/Reb badges, however you can only get bronze or silver badges in other sections.
If you choose split pie chart like majority Red/Green.
You will be able to get Gold shooting and Gold Def/Reb, and silver or bronze finishing and Playmaking.
So you can make a “Sharp/Lock”, but you won’t be able to get Hof green or HoF red badges.
Just Gold.
This will force players to have to choose wisely when creating their player.
Do you need HoF badges?
Is having HoF in 1 area worth having Silver or bronze everywhere else?
Would you rather have 2 skills to get gold badges and sacrifice the ability to get HoF badges?
It’s just an opinion.
If it were up to me, I’d completely remove badges and archetypes/pie charts from the game... but that’s a conversation for another video.

Not really because you’ll still be able to choose where you put your attributes, and you will be able to choose what badges you use.
In 2k18 and 19 , they chose the attributes you got.
They also chose the badges you get.
This wouldn't really solve anything. A lot of y'all put way too much faith in these badges to even realize that 90% of them work just as good on gold than on HoF. All it takes is a guy like Joe Knows, Brotha Jones, or Poorboysin to figure that out and put everyone on it, and it's the previous 2 2ks all over again.

I think you made a good point about the fun aspect. One of the main selling points of this game (not that it needed many due to the already popular fan base) was that we would be able to have an endless amount of different builds to create. For example, you could make an Offensive Threat or Scoring Machine or a Rebounding guard. But because of the meta of the game, it’s completely overran with Defensive builds. Defenders are athletic and have a place in any lineup at any position. However, being able to contact dunk over paint beasts and shooting 40%-50% contested green 3s is just not right. They should be able to have some offensive capacity in their game to where they aren’t a liability, but they shouldn’t be a focal point of a team’s offense.
Y’all remember in the old 2k’s when you could have a 7ft SF😂 and you had 95 everything offensive and defense

I legit agree with everything you said. I have a 2-way slash play. In rec/pro-am when facing a team that runs 3 or more locks. It’s soo tuff to pass because the fear of the turnover. And then 2 if you aren’t running with a full team you’re just playing with randoms. You will lose by 40. Against 3-4 clock builds everything has to be super coordinated. It’s annoying.

And even tho Steph and Harden aren’t two way players, they’re some of the greatest offensive players of all time. They’re not pure sharpshooters. They’re still great at multiple aspects of the game. This man Joe Knows is complaining like he wants us to go back to the 2k17 days where every build was only good at 1 or 2 things. Pure builds are outdated. The only pure sharps in today’s NBA that are relevant are players like JJ Reddick, Kyle Korver, Mathew Delly, etc. who are in their mid to late 30s

KD was used as a rim protector in GS and vastly improved his defense. It's just KD's offense is so much better than his defense that you don't think of him as a two way

People don’t even guard there man anymore... they jus pinch the ball handler and bait passes so unrealistic.... cuz in real life if ur playing passing lanes THAT heavy and blitzing certified ball handlers... you’ll get ran off the court every time pick up or real 5v5 the community gotta help 2k realize common basketball principles
i made this build the first day 2k came out. no youtubers no research plus 2k switched the pie charts after i made him so i have a one of a kind 2 way slashing playmaker SG with 90 driving, 73 three point, 78 mid and 88 ball handle.. GOATED!

Bro you’re absolutely right..it’s the same reason that we have 6’7 SFs being able to either slow down or stop 7 ft and up Centers in the post of just defensive in general. It makes no sense. Locks should def take a hit because pro am just isn’t fun anymore. Last year my pro am team was ranked like 80th in the world and we enjoyed playing as a team but now you run into teams that 5 out and that’s not basketball at all. That’s what all the comp teams run is 5 out and it makes no sense

If you see defenders shooting they either used the shooting defending chart or they sacrificed points to up their shooting but then they only get like 10 max and wont be super super consistent.

I definitely agree. The fact that you can iso with a lock,get contact dunks, and shoot consistently is just to much. If you make a lock that should be its main purpose. The offense should just be mediocre.

For everyone saying SF are broken, just make a 6’7 point forward. If you make it the right way you get 6 finishing 15 shooting 24 playmaking and 7 to 8 defense. It’s a slept on build

tbh 2k needs to give shooters more love because the fact that i miss shots wide open on the 3 with a sharpshooting facilitator is insane. Shooters should be able to hit shots off the dribble easier too. Also anybody who isn’t a shooter should have a way smaller chance of hitting a green

So why choose this build over just a slashing playmaker that gets elite contact off rip better ball handling and finishing and HOF finishing badges ????
DYodes did u not listen to the video, defence is crazy u can shoot better still get insane finishing 87 driving compared to 90 on the slashing playmaker not much difference, when u can still shoot greens from deep. 2 way is also faster off rip
Dave Walls just wasn’t sure if it was better to have the HOF defense or the HOF finishing since there stats are pretty similar between ball handling shooting and dunk and lay up cuz that little bit could possibly one a difference if I finish the lay up or dunk or not

see this is why the community has a part to do with how shitty the game is. We complain about how unbalanced anything is, and then 2k keeps nerfing everything. And then we complain about how trash the game is... you realize these players are 99 overall without even one 99 attribute. Just take out archetypes, and make everyone good at everything and just let us choose our takeover. It doesn’t really matter if builds are op, it’s what makes the game fun, we want a 99 to feel like a legend who is a 99.

Add in the fact he grinds all his builds to 99 in mycareer to get a +5 to all attributes, has gym rat badge which is constant turbo and +4 to athletics, and hes prolly rocking boosts every game
JKennyPro well then the shooting is basically a 74 or something around that considering the wingspan but should you really be able to shoot so consistent the way it‘s possible when there are build with 90+ shooting stats
Go back to 17 defense, where u actually had to be a "good" defender, u might get my money for 21..20 handicaps TF out terrible players worse than 19..
I loved 17 defense but the ankle breakers ever since 17 have been too much. You shouldn’t be fallin over during a snatch back that they spam over and over.
I think ur right about twoways. They should give a couple more defensive badges to non defender builds and maybe buff a couple categories for there defense like lateral quickness

It’s all about badges. The fact they allowed us to choose badges this year allowed this. If you got a 60 3 ball and like 10 shooting badges you’re alright. Even offensive builds with 8 or 9 defensive badges are pretty OP.
Use the build you enjoy most and win games with i personally do not like the 2-wayslashing playmaker, i work well with the slashing playmaker. I see no reason to get 30 defensive badges when i can do almost the same with a 12 defensive badge
The Meta has changed again! I've been trying so long to make a tall quick and strong player like Giannis. But where 2K lets you make an OP build with the skill Piechart they won't let you do that with the physicals! I just want a physical beast! Even if he can only score inside! Just a Quick First Step Slasher with great strength and vertical!
Make a shooting paint defender.. mine is 7’3 and max wingspan. I can shoot, finish easy af, get rebounds easy af and blocks

Sauce K you get great dunking stats and defensive stats bad playmaking and ok shooting. But you get very good speed vertical and height

What he might have done is lowered his arms to minimum length (which gets the 69 3pt) and he is a 99.9, which means he had plus 5 to all his attributes instead of the usual plus 4 for being at 99.

I'm a 99 (not legend) and I have 74 3pt rating on this build, legend doesn't matter. It affect badges only
Defenders are the strongest, fastest players, they also can jump high. So naturally they'll have a high dunk rating.The shooting on certain defensive builds may be a bit high but the average 2k player will NOT be shooting consistently with it. Only the 1% of 2K players can do that. You mentioned Tony Allen, he was an elite on ball defender AND he could dunk on your head. Same with Bill Russell. SUPER athletic. He jumped over a guy on a fast break, like when Lebron jumped over John Lucas Jr. Good video.

I don’t care what they change abt builds, but they need to revert the game speed and dribbling mechanics to how it was in 2k17/19
When it comes to two way builds I think they’re fine this year cause we do have the PG13s,Khawhi ,& Giannas that can score at Will in the league ,but if you pick the pure defense pie chart you shouldn’t be slashing better than a slasher or shooting just as good as shooter
