Mawlana Jalaluddin Rumi, the 13th century mystic poet, was truly one of the most passionate and profound poets in history. Now, today his presence still remains strong, due in part to how his words seem to drip of the divine, and startle a profound remembrance that links all back to the Soul-Essence.

For ages you have come and gone
courting this delusion.
For ages you have run from the pain
and forfeited the ecstasy.
So come, return to the root of the root
of your own soul.
Although you appear in earthly form
Your essence is pure Consciousness.
You are the fearless guardian
of Divine Light.
So come, return to the root of the root
of your own soul.
When you lose all sense of self
the bonds of a thousand chains will vanish.
Lose yourself completely,
Return to the root of the root
of your own soul.
You descended from Adam, by the pure Word of God,
but you turned your sight
to the empty show of this world.
How can you be satisfied with so little?
So come, return to the root of the root
of your own soul.
Why are you so enchanted by this world
when a mine of gold lies within you?
Open your eyes and come-
Return to the root of the root
of your own soul.
You were born from the rays of God’s Majesty
when the stars were in their perfect place.
How long will you suffer from the blows
of a nonexistent hand?
So come, return to the root of the root of
your own soul.
You are a ruby encased in granite.
How long will you deceive Us with this outer show?
O friend, We can see the truth in your eyes!

After one moment with that glorious Friend
you became loving, radiant, and ecstatic.
Your eyes were sweet and full of fire.

Shams-e Tabriz, the King of the Tavern,
has handed you an eternal cup,
And God in all His glory is pouring the wine.
So come! Drink!
Return to the root of the root
of your own soul.
Soul of all souls, life of all life-you are That.
Seen and unseen, moving and unmoving-you are That.
The road that leads to the City is endless;
Go without head or feet
and you’ll already be there.
What else could you be?-you are That.

Amazing story about Rumi and Shams. When they first met Rumi was a scholar, but Shams took all his books and dumped them in the river. From there on Rumi evolved spiritually to the point that he adored Shams and kept pouring out words of Love and Enlightenment.
Ive covered my eyes so that you may not see my what keeps my spirits high... My sense of self is lost... I have lost myself completely. I was told to satisfy my thirst and hunger at its shallow peak. Your mystical breath has enriched my lungs with a me that I have not known before.... My divine, I have returned .... My ruby shines beyond what you already know to truly shine.... Oh my beloved soul brother, I AM THE UNIVERSE IN ECSTATIC MOTION. ... I will follow you . I eagerly await to be joined with you as one my divine... I am yours.

Almost died while listening but um
The Great Rumi's words are not so simple to comprehend. I will try to explain by the grace of my guru. The first line, talks of coming and going of soul in various births, circle of life and death, that which is not permanent is delusion, that which is permanent never changing is Truth (God, what is the form of formless god?, Divine Light says all scriptures). We are rays, or to say, divine light in reality, not the body we are carrying, we are pure consciousness. You descended from Adam by pure word of god, meaning, the entire creation has descended by the unspoken word of God, its quoted as Word in Bible, Avyakt Akshara in Bhagvad Geeta, Shabd in Sikhism, and various other names in other religions. That word which is only revealed by a perfect master of the time. Shams Tabrej was guru of Rumi, that is why he has quoted him. Lastly the wine is referred for internal nectar, which lies inside of our heads, which can be tasted once we deeply meditate on the divine light by the grace of guru. Its not referred to as some outside wine. Return to the root of the root of your own soul. The root of everything is infinite almighty which is formless beyond time , space, and causation.
