Absolutely agree. The jag is is a beautiful design. The audi is just bland and if was debadged you could confuse it with any number of car manufacturers. They all look the same. No mistaking the sensuous, graceful lines of the jag though.
To be fair, that was the last year of that shape of x300/x308. Much classier than the bland Audi and aside from rust, that late x308 had the later timing chains etc, steel lined engine and a few more standard toys like cruise control over the earlier ones.
Lookin forward to this one bud. me and my lass want an old jag to bring back to life.soon as we move and have some space we hope to grab an auction jobby.would like a super charged model maybe.never owned a Jag yet sadly great channel mate
I have a very similar Jaguar XJ 3.2 V8 that I bought for £500 with no MOT. It's a project like any old Jaguar. People knock Jaguar's, however, how many people own and keep old Jag's compared to foreign brands? Probably a lot more than you think. Also, people knock Land Rover's, but most Land Rover's are still on the road compared to their competition. As for rust on Jaguar's, my 2001 XJ V8 is only rust in the wheel arches. The jacking and suspension points are still sound. I have repaired many Toyota, Ford, Citroen and other brands much younger than my Jag. I would also ask, when was the last time you saw a 20+year old other brand car on the road? The headliner, they were made by Lear Corporation in the midlands, not by Jaguar and a such Jaguar were let down by their supplier. Its a relatively easy swap and will make a huge difference.
The Jag looks so much better IMO, It oozes class! This one is rusty so really only fit for the banger racing circuit unless you want to waste £££ sorting it out , If you want to pump £££ into a Jag XJ get an XJR!
Seriously???? Jag or Audi 🤔 people will still love the jag in 20 years at a classic car show.. nobody will be looking at the Audi.. although the Audi will still be running with 300k miles and the jag will just look like a classy old bloke.
A very enjoyable watch and could be made into a nice car with a little love. Did it sell on Ebay ? Im going from a Jaguar XF 3.0 Diesel that has been Good for nearly 5 years but now at nearly 300,000 Kilometers here in France it has engine issues so im going into a XJ6 Petrol that i know i can maintain a lot easier in my workshop here.
I have driven a few XJ's over the years from this generation and later ones and in my experience comfort mode on the gearbox should really be renamed lethergic mode.
The Rust on the wheel arches is not too bad it would the underneath i would More concerned about!!!!!!!!!! A good panel beater could sort that out, it still has classic Jaguar style!! NEEDS NEW headliner BADLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! These days V8s are few and far between, BUT be wary it will Drink fuel!!!! Auction it 1500gpd see what happens.
I have the X350 XJR which has the classic look but the body is 100% Aluminium. These are great cars and the styling looks great and much better than most cars of a similar era. There are a ton of Jaguar experts and access to new and old parts. This would make a great project for someone.
Hey @shifting metal! Great video, thanks for sharing. I've literally just bought myself a very similar X308 XJ Executive 3.2 V8. However, bodywise, mine is thankfully much less rotten having been waxoiled underneath and retreated more recently. What happened to EO52AOP? It's disappeared off the .gov database so I assume it's either been scrapped or is wearing a private plate. Given this was only 6 months ago, I can only assume the worst sadly. In terms of the Audi vs Jag. I'd pick the Jag as it's the kind of car that even if you knew nothing about cars, you'd know that's a Jag. However, the Audi certainly has a lot going for it if you wanted to portray an image of success with a coat of modernity, even now it looks modern, but the classical lines of the Jag, for me just steal the heart for me.
Lovely colour, shame it hasn't had enough TLC to keep the rust at bay. The headliner is a terrible bodge, that will need replacing as well as the rusty arches. Nice project for someone but I am not a welder so good luck but I'll pass.
The Jaguar xj8 is in my opinion the best car ever made and it will always stand the test of time the most beautiful style ever and the best looking car ever please don't knock it I own a Jaguar xj8 and I am so much in love with it I talk to it every day and it's never let me down It's a 2001 model Xj8 Executive I brought it with 35000 miles on the clock costing £8000 it has now done 66000 miles and to me it's worth more now than what I paid for it And as it's a cat it purresl like a cat in tick over and drives like a lion when you need speed I will say again the best car ever made
I have a XJ8 Sovereign 4L V8 LWB. They are quicker than they may first appear. The rust on your car is terminal!! The inner wings, floor, bulkhead, and chassis locations will be corroded. I have had 5 XJs over the last 20 years. Unfortunately, scrap value, pretty much what you paid for it!
Absolutely love the jaguar used to have a 1986 xj6 beautiful smooth ride but if the rust is showing up probably even worse underneath but they are starting to get more expensive now
I just drove a 2000 model XJ8. 4 litre . Went from zero to 60 Mph in approx 7 seconds. But as they output close to 300 BHP. It was what would be expected. I don’t understand why they reduced the capacity of the engine.
That car is actually lovely inside.. it's definitely older looking on the outside, the inside looks more like it's age. Nice thing 👍 also fairly small for a V8, I have a 4.4L V8 powered car and even that I see as sort of the minimum (4.0/4.2/4.4) you'd usually expect for a V8 since there's 5L/6L engines out there, a 3.2 seems really small :')
Great old car, BUT the MOT history really scares me with the amount of Fails and corrosion, it runs out in August this year too, good project for someone though, wish I still had mine 😢
got a 99 XJ8 4.0 VDP, love the stately styling. but it definitely is dated or classic. not for everyone. but it presents very nice, especially with some nice taste full rims (XKR rims for example)
After seeing this Y registered Silver Jaguar in another garage that was amazing condition..£11.995 Was there price.. When I first saw it and saw £800 I was frustrated the paintwork would actually put me off.. I had my very own Jaguar Executive 3.2 in a lighter blue i gave just £1100 I loved the car. Now the problem We all have now a days is Older against newer.. 2000 -2002 are real nice with a few modern features screen with sat nav.. But then You have 2003 -2008 all Aluminium cars and you can buy real nice examples for £3000 or less depending on mileage.. One of each once I get my ideal place to live.. But I do struggle between the newer car because of spec levels and styling.. And coming from Coventry the older would suit me fine.. Great video..
The x308 wasnt bad by this late stage due to the timing upgrades but they had lots of nasty ford switchgear.4litre was a hoot but i reverted back to the x300.the straight six feels more jag & was on the whole a lot stronger
At 16 ft 3 inches long it's still pretty long even compared to many large modern cars, the last Mondeo a properly big car is still shorter at 15 ft 10 long. What makes an old XJ8 easy to place in traffic is being quite slim at just 5 ft 10 wide!
Jaguar for £800! Although they're may be someone who may like to take this on as a project, I would expect the corrosion you can't see to be serious as well as what you can! It will make a great car for harvesting parts from, The engine and gearbox alone must be worth the value of the car 👍

had a 4.0 V8 1997. MUCH better looking car. the one you have has cross eyes it’s the 1st year of the ‘changed’ version. And my had a sunroof. and the lining was not ruined by pins ! but failed MOT and was £1500 to fix. Car was sold for spares. Beautiful car. Yours is ok. but once you had a 4.0 you never want to go BACKWARDS to a puny 3.2 !
How's the iveco going? I'm looking to buy an ex tesco with the 8 speed auto. Want to get a sleeper pod fitted to roof too so I can do the long runs and set off on an evening. Kip in van then do 8am collection. Just means less time in traffic which will help my sanity
@Shifting Metal that's fantastic in 20k miles. What miles did you buy yours on? Ones I've seen are ex tesco on around 150k miles? Should I be worried? Also where abouts in country are you? I send email out to dealers with cars were selling to trade. We get slot of seized vehicles. We're based in Yorkshire
I bought a red XJ Sport(a horrible Leyland one) for £500. Drove it for four months with zero problems and then sold it for £750. Pretty much a miracle that it didn’t all go horribly wrong
Still look cool??? It looks better than the other "modern "car that looks like Skips 😮 car design nowadays it's gone ,all computers
Agreed, makes the Audi look very ordinary
Absolutely agree. The jag is is a beautiful design.

I think the Jaguar looks far more elegant than the Audi
An amazing Gentleman’s Express. Pity the roof cloth looks like a button back chesterfield sofa. 🥴💨 what a machine

The coolest car we've had on the channel in a long time
Love polishing my gear knob.
Loving the Indian music adverts in the middle. Tata

Quite the opposite - These jags are mechanically far stronger.than anything Vag at higher miles - it's the body rot that lets them down.
Love these! Kinda one of those type of cars you'd love to own but would never dare to. Good luck with the auction :D
That cataclean is pointless if the cats are shot which is probably the issue on that car
EML light i can tell you now as someone who has owned six Jags, that it will be the Lamda senser near the cat
Someone doesn't understand a Jaguar!!
Bet ya get 50 k views on the end and a bunch of new subscribers off this . Very popular with car YT at the moment.
A very enjoyable watch and could be made into a nice car with a little love.

Still would buy jag over Audi jag has style
Jags are rare and classy. Audis and Beamers are 10 a penny, not exactly exclusive.
Great cars, lots of character. How did it pass the mot with so much rust?
Thanks ❤
I have driven a few XJ's over the years from this generation and later ones and in my experience comfort mode on the gearbox should really be renamed lethergic mode.
A bit like your spelling then! 😂😂😂
Those back wings could cost a fortune to repair unless you can do the welding yourself
I could do the welding but I won’t be this time! 😂
Prefer old school styling
a good video but dont you think that people are tight with there cash lol like the JAG lol😄
You shouldn't went on a Megabus it would have been cheaper so trade
Buys anything apart from imports 😜
nice old Jag but cant see any profit in it ,its anothe grande on top to make it half perfect ..though its agreat smoker till the mot is up
100% once us traders spends a bag or more. Typically the fun ( profit ) is gone. Alas. Thus a smoker !!!
I'd take the Jaguar anyday, the Audi is for accountants ;)
Audis are driven badly by bad people.
Jaguar has style, Audi has not just bland
Yeah the Audi is basically a kitchen appliance you wouldn't look at it twice
@interceptor1986 well said 👏 😁 bought by birds driven by arrogant thugs, even in Kyiv
I think the Audi looks more stylish
@@kells77 🤣🤣🤣

21:38 I think it suits you really mate that should definitely be your daily
🤣
were the XJ 8 not Aluminium?? or as our American friends say Aloominum ! lol
From 2003 the xj350 then some other models like xk from 2006 I think
Lovely colour, shame it hasn't had enough TLC to keep the rust at bay. The headliner is a terrible bodge, that will need replacing as well as the rusty arches. Nice project for someone but I am not a welder so good luck but I'll pass.
They are very fun to drive and make you feel special when you're behind the wheel.
The Audi is boring. The Jag is not.
It's not supposed to look modern 😃
The Jaguar xj8 is in my opinion the best car ever made and it will always stand the test of time the most beautiful style ever and the best looking car ever please don't knock it
I own a Jaguar xj8 and I am so much in love with it I talk to it every day and it's never let me down
It's a 2001 model Xj8 Executive
I brought it with 35000 miles on the clock costing £8000 it has now done 66000 miles and to me it's worth more now than what I paid for it
And as it's a cat it purresl like a cat in tick over and drives like a lion when you need speed
I will say again the best car ever made

If you can get it through the MOT then will get relatively cheap motoring for a year and if a London resident the 2002 model year is ULEZ compliant!
I cannot stop giggling at the dots holding the headliner up. Looks so goofy.
Absolutely love the jaguar used to have a 1986 xj6 beautiful smooth ride but if the rust is showing up probably even worse underneath but they are starting to get more expensive now
I'd just daily drive it. Save body rust money for future repairs
Glad I live in Australia. Not a sign of a spot of rust on my 98 X308 4.0l
Another great video. Hopefully, this Jag will live on to tell another tale.
"It looks dated" . Yep. I was quessing a 1986-ish
I think the ' repaired ' headlining would put me off more than the rusty wings😮
Apparently a new headlining isn't difficult to fit
It's not a bad thing to swap.
£500 car that is , take the cats off {£600 for both} weigh the rest in
What's happened to the XJ8 Joe? Did it sell on ebay? 😁
No...they all look like jelly moulds.....no style!
Arthur Daly would be proud 😅
Werewolf's are real and have been seen in the uk 🇬🇧

Why not a UA-cam sale
How would that work?

Very late one with later steel liner engine
I'd say the Jag is "Guy Ritchie" cool 😅

If you get a decent 4.0 then am on the look out for another one.
Still a lovely car despite it's cosmetic flaws.
Too far gone for there to be any money in it.
The more modern Audi any day! 😊
Makes a video bemoaning dead cars all over and goes straight out to buy another
That’s me 🙋🏼♂️ I already had it to be fair, you’ll spot it in the moan video! Clear out and technician interviews start this week 👍

Can’t fault it. Had a couple of tyres and an oil pressure sensor over the last 20k miles. Never let us down

Beautiful Car

It's all Arthur Daily to me. 😊😊
Nice little earner my son
Hmmmm. Nice from a distance. I fear 'the money pit', though. Hope you sell it for a decent price.
Nice video Joe,corrosion on the lower parts of these cars such as wheel arch and seals is quite common.
I bought a red XJ Sport(a horrible Leyland one) for £500. Drove it for four months with zero problems and then sold it for £750. Pretty much a miracle that it didn’t all go horribly wrong
Nice Jag a good buy people wanting a nice version getting to be more collectable
😂 Borrowed my mates 2010 A8 for a week while my 2003 XJ8 was out of commission, very nice but I missed the attention! 😢🦘
