As a backpacker, While returning to India from Thailand, I had very less items to check in and one newly married Indian couple asked if they could check in their bag under my name because they are overweight. I let them, but now I realise How stupid I was. Could have drugs and illegal stuff in that bag.
In my case when I was travelling to Ireland for my undergrad (first time travelling alone internationally btw), a woman came up to me and asked if she could check in her extra luggage under my name. I told her “sorry I cannot do that “
The term ‘overbooked flight’ that Varun used (21:06) reminded me of a great Doug Stanhope bit. Doug says that airlines need to be sued for overbooking the flights. If I sell the same car to two different people and say sorry to them and ask one of them to back out of the deal when they arrive to pick it up, I’ll probably be sued by one of them, as it’s a criminal offense. Similarly, airlines should be sued for overbooking a flight. Are they that dumb that they didn’t know there are only X number of seats on a certain flights? It’s forgery and it needs to be treated as one.
The thing VT mentioned about tagging luggage - supremely helpful in identifying your bags on the carousel, since that is something I did for all my luggage items, check in and cabin. Also, getting upgrades to business/ first class is all about your conduct at the check in counter, and more often than not what your airline travel history looks like.
14:22 My mother advised me to get distinctive suitcases as well and it also helps that I like uniquely shaped and colourful bags. Also, another hack my mother uses is Ribbons and Baggage Tags.
Jokes apart, learning a few phrases in the local language really helps during the local sight seeing. Phrases and words like tha k you, welcome, please, hello, gm,Gn,GE,table for two, three, etc Also, Locals get really happy when you try to speak their language.
My hack for regular travelers is to have a regular travel insurance. It’s much cheaper than getting it for every trip separately. Travel insurance should always be booked. You don’t want to be in a foreign country and have a legit emergency.
Majority of this hack unfortunately doesn’t hold true post COVID. Flight prices are similar almost throughout the year now. Travel has changed a lot post corona
Guys the borders for New Zealand is opening soon. You can apply for Visitors visa I think around end of July. As you guys love travelling so you should definitely come to NZ and around spring and summer which will start from September.
Be aware of hidden cameras, if you can connect to hotel wifi and if the hidden cameras are on the same network then you can use apps like Fing which show you the list of devices on the network. You can also darken the room completely and then use a phone flashlight. The camera lens always reflects a little bit of light. Situational awareness: look around for anything or decorations that are facing the bed or bathrooms.
I can relate w/ the google translate thing. It helps me alot. The other day i could not differentiate butter box from cheese spread box in a super market in santorini and G translate helped me with it. Similarly it was great help in kerala a few years ago
We were charged 10 euros extra in Italy for a table cloth on the table, 2 for cutlery and 4 for bread 🤣 I can safely say I only ate Chinese on the trip after that 🌝
Advice for aadar :- you don't need to do a roaming recharge, you can just do a minimum unlimited category recharge which can be around 100-150 which includes sms and calling.
My Travel Hack is that I carried a 20 kg suitcase to the UK and came back with a 23kg suitcase. But on a serious note, invest in a small trolley so that packing in shopping is easier.
By the way @Varun, your luggage stories from London - at the end of a year at the Uni are so similar to mine. Ek minute toh laga, someone spotted me layering up my jackets and throwing my middle class values & good stuff into the incinerator.
I love reading books but on vacation, I become a visual learner. So, I’m mostly interested in magazines so in my case, roaming with a Kindle is a better idea.
I love how Chand Aunty’s (Varun’s Mom) definition of “Aaj Kuch toofani karte hain!” was that she gave Milind Uncle (Varun’s Dad) more drinks than the already established two-drink minimum 😂 (I’ve mentioned terms in the brackets for the uninitiated. Don’t @ me.)
Travel reminds me of your episode on flights and my recent journey to toronto via Air india. Bro istg this air hostess shat on this 80yr old lady because she didnt know how to flush in the loo 😭 and like railways they run down the aisle yelling “ coffee chai chai coffee” 😭

Varun at the start - guys don't repeat stories , cut to 5 mins later - varun with same overweight bag story that we have already heard 10 times🤣🤣🤣
“What is so fragile?”
V: “my ego”
*would need two fragile stickers*.

I am on a family trip to Greece. The timing of this topic could never be better👌🏻❤️
Why Greece?
@@friedsugar2701 they are calling it the revenge travel!
These guys are so lucky because the nature of their job is such that they get to travel a lot. So much to learn about travelling from these guys
Bhai trust me it sucks balls to travel so much. Its nauseating after a point and you dont get to enjoy it anymore.
One simple hack is book your ticket with a card that has air and travel insurance. It also covers missed or delayed baggage insurance most times.
5:57 minutes into the podcast varun repeated a story 🤣 love it tho
chalta hai bro.. isiko part 2 samajh lo :P
The best thing about the new version of TISS is that we don’t get promises for a part 2 of any topic 😂😂
The story about Varun’s return from University in the UK is a legendary story. Watch the ‘Flights’ episode to get some context.
Can u remind me how it starts?
@@sharadsemilo I mean, you will have to watch that episode.

Exactly. Renting a house analogy would be better fitting here

When you watch Hema Malini’s water purifier ad, you realise that when she pronounces Kent it sounds like something else altogether!
She does the same with Land. I guess she doesn't enunciates her a's.

Another tip which I’m surprised they didn’t mention have a pen on you all the the time when you’re flying. You never know when it comes handy
Varun mentioning the ClearTrip thing at 18:00 is the real hack, never worked for me though lmao.
No matter what's going on in life, this always puts a smile on my face ❤
Already bought my tickets for Berlin. Can't wait. Guy's the tickets are damn reasonable!! Please get it!
Now, I am waiting to get in a situation where I will go "Ohh yeah, Varun had mentioned something about this in that tiss episode."
