I prefer this version to the Bogart one, Cagney’s voice is nicer and the pacing is better. I love James M Cain’s work his characters are always well developed.
Air Date:01.17.1948 ( January 17, 1948) Plot:+ "Love's Lovely Counterfeit". A good adaption of the story about the gangster who rises to the top on the coat-tails of a reform politician, a good part for James Cagney. The story was previously produced on "Suspense" on March 8, 1945. James Cain, The author of the original novel, speaks after the drama. + When such incompatible words as Counterfeit and Lovely found themselves together in the title of this story by James Cain they said a lot not only about the story but about the men, Ben Grace as well. Elements of both words crowded through him. On the one side for example was his dislike for meanness and greed and on the other side something forged, fictitious and false. Written by: James M. Yup that's what he said. At the very beginning they mentioned that the crime lord was also in involved in "dope". So they weren't trying to sanitize anything as far as that's concerned

I don't get it. What happened to the killer? I don't want to give away who killed someone near the end.
She got off scott free. The guy who was going to kill Cagney was shot by June, who likely claimed self defense. Dead men tell no tails.
Better call Saul...
