Fantastic Review Mr. Prashant. I ordered HMT Janata Devanagari (Blue Numerals on White Dial with Steel Strap) this afternoon from HMT website. I am glad that Bangalore unit is managing the sales, manufacturing and museum now. It's my first HMT Watch purchase. I got another one called HMT Sona (Golden Velvet Strap) from 1995. That one belonged to my father which he later passed down to me in 2009. HMT Ranibagh Unit is 5 kms away from my residence and I often hang out there with my friends to nearby Maggie Point. The Complex is completely abandoned now. With some families still residing in residential complexes. But all along that place is overtaken by flora and fauna. I'm glad you hold the last piece of this place's offering. Once a big hub for country's major watch manufacturing unit, offered ample employment to Kumaon and around is now a complete concrete carcass. I hope it to revive again in near future. Keep up your love for these timeless timepieces. Best Wishes. ❤️👍
@@IqbalSingh-sg2jf Greetings Iqbal, will suggest you to kindly contact HMT Bangalore Unit. Their contact details are available on hmtwatches.in They will be able to cater your query more precisely. 🙏
Nice video! Was about to buy one from eBay, but after I watched your video, it seems all of them are franken. I can somehow tell from the font especially the degree of the "tail" of the numeral Any idea where to get this watch with original dial?
The facts about the digits on the case are pretty interesting. I have a janta which reads 417... if 5 is rani bagh factory, wondering what the 4 stands for? is it tumkur? or someother place?
Siddharth Sharma as long as you know what you have and enjoy it. Everything else is secondary. By the way, i hope you know that HMT made a watch with siddharth on its dial.
very nice video sir... honestly i would not have been able to differentiate franken from original dial. Even the black dial was looking decently designed. Thanks for the video. :)
I was searching for online videos to understand case back codes of HMT watches. I have two of them from fmy ather and grand father. Looks like HMT keeps changing the format of case back code. My father's hmt maurya has case code of 05 05 86 and I know that watch is before I born (1988). Probably, in this case, watch manufacturing year is 1986. However, my grand father's HMT Sona has very different format. 2092733 above and 35-79 below. Probably 1979 or 1973 is manufacturing year. Any thoughts from fellow watch enthusiasts? Thanks
I need this watch. I am searching this hmt for 2 yrs almost but I cannot find any. I just want to wear this watch with my school uniform. If you sell any of them please inform me. 🙏🏽
Hi Sir, I am from hyderabad and I am searching for this watch for quite some time. Could you advise where I can buy them please. The plain dial with brown strap. Thank you in advance
brother i have hmt janta arabic. its case shows 0398 water resistant shock proof.. its showing made in india 023 without any hyphens.. can u make a video over its identification of orignality.. btw i have ordered its from hmt website. the main problem is that i met few watch mechanics who tolf its fake
could you show some examples of hmt franken pilot watches. I have one I think. White dial with machining swirly shapes on it. Blue printed markers red second hand. I do live though Keeps good time.Has 414058 on the back. I didn't think they were making watches in 1958. Nice watches. Keep these informative video coming my friend. Greetings from England
neil piper the one that you have described is a popular franken watch on eBay. I have done a video on franken pilot watches you can check it the video list.
I found this video useful and extremely painful as I purchased the Janta Devanagri watch from a old chap here in Delhi who convinced that he was selling the original. I paid or I lost my ₹ 2000/- in that deal.
So another thing I have noticed about this model, the franken version has a slightly tilted font at the 6 hour mark. I feel like this is the biggest giveaway. Where as the original it's closer to straight. In fact, the 5, 6, and 7 hour markers have a tilt to them where as the original on the left are straight vertically. I have a franken version unfortunately. Paid $35 US for it 😠 I've never noticed the hyphen.
Thanks for the very informative video... I don't really have a problem with owning a Franken watch, but I've heard that a lot of them are made using child labour. Is this true?
I suggest you buy watches directly from HMTLtd website using an Indian credit or debit card and get them shipped to an address in India. In the world of HMT watches I am sorry to say you cannot trust any dealers.
Thanks Prashant.. I’m pretty sure the pilot I have might b a franken .. however it’s probably the best I’ve seen made.. if you have an email address I’d love to send you some pictures from Sydney
Sir, I have a doubt. I own an HMT Janata, In the backside, it says that " hmt WFT 4 16 060 " My father owned it like 20 years back or more. Can you please tell me what it means ???
Hi, dear i want to buy some hmt watches (original), could you please let me know from where i can buy online. Ebay is full with fake watches. Please if you know someone please give me the info. Thanks
Mr. Pandey, good evening to you. I would just like to know whenever you find the time to reply to this message. Where can one find a replacement crsytal for an Hmt Pilot. I have a crack on my crystal and would like to replace the same ASAP. Please do share your valuable feedback regarding this. And FYI I live in Mumbai.
aditya kumar any HMT handwinding or automatic watch can be a good beginning though a Janata or a pilot could be a classic addition. Janata devanagari dial HMT watches are rare to come by so I will not be able to recommend you to a specific seller. There are tons of fakes/frankens out there so be cautious
if you have any trustworthy ebay dealer in your contact or anywhere else could you please get me in contact? I'm just not being able to decide given i know so less on the subject. Much appreciated.
aditya kumar unfortunately, there are none that I can recommend. I suggest you do your homework before clicking on the buy button. Also, there are Facebook groups like HMT brotherhood and HMT market place where you can buy watches at the same time taking advice from members.
I believe my HMT is repaired, so partially Franken, but, mostly original parts in the movement, but I feel the crown looks “too new” to be the one that came with the rest of it... I got it because I liked it, and needed something to tell time with... so far so good.
They did but are actually using the current inventory of movements and cases with dials and hands sourced from third party manufacturers to make these watches.
Dear Prashant, covid took from us such a wonderful human being, you are sorely missed sir. At least we have these wonderful videos to remember you by.
Its so sad
I am new to HMT watches collection
Thanks for saving my money 🤣👍👍
