I too felt that the mouse system was awkward, but when I carefully studied how the default-action mechanism worked, it became simple to use and actually quite elegant. Here is the developer describing it in a thread on the Steam forums: "I totally understand that sticking to the things you are used to is easier. I would really like to have the configurable option to change this but this would simply make the default actions unusable (we would need to turn this off entirely) which is a shame because many players actually do like it once they get used to it. "The mouse control is also pretty deeply integrated into the UI. I am not saying that it is not possible to implement. It certainly is, however we would rather stick to this solution to let players to try our approach first. "We understand that this can eventually drive some players away and it is one of our concerns but we didnt make up this mouse approach just like that. There was a lot of user testing involved and has actually proved that players who actually start playing the game (and didnt quit it after few minutes) get used to it and like it."
i always wanted a civ type map in the ancient world with more military options and unit info. the game looks go so far. i love level of detail. not too much and not too little. The after battle report is done well. looking forward to the rest of the lp. thanks
Not a simple issue. Accepted pronunciation in English is often nothing like what the actual ancients would have used. Sometimes it's not even known what they would have used.
He has over 21000 subscribers and is well respected throughout many gaming communities. Please tell us what you bring to the table apart from useless shitty comments like that?
I believe it's pronounced An-tih-goh-nid with the emphasis on the second syllable. It was one of the three successor kingdoms following the dissolution of Alexander's empire.
I haven't played it but this game doesn't look that good compared to other Roman styled games. Hell, just wait for Imperator Rome to come out by Paradox, it'll be a 4X grand strategy game as well. Doesn't currently have a release date though.
It looks to me like a 4X-lite kind of game with very historical flavoring - kind of a trap for grognards who would not normally be playing Civilization 4X style games but are all into the ancient warfare kind of stuff like Fields of Glory 2 which is not what Aggressors seems to be about in the least. The unit select/de-select method is not standard for most popular USA games for sure (I think its like maybe European ? Warlock/Warlock 2 maybe?) but the auto unit selection is about the same function & annoyance as you see in Civilization 5. This type of game doesn't seem to be the type of game that this channel usually covers but I think someone got fooled by the Ancient Roman motif. I would recommend Civilization 5 with the Vox Populi mod for a better 4X strategy game experience.
I play a mix of liter titles and deeper titles. I like the concept but am not thrilled with the execution thus far. I’ll probably play a bit more of it before moving into something else.
In this case someone who enjoys playing older style and maybe less popular wargames such as Field of Glory, Pike and Shot, etc. where the focus is on historical accuracy of units and combat or recreation of a historical battle rather than how best to build your own empire or some kind of fantasy or futuristic adventure. Not the part about being an old soldier of the Napoleonic imperial guard. Example: the UA-camr DasTastic who is one of my favorites
does not need to be like TW, just that there was some strategy tactics during assault 'cause from what i saw here it's gonna be focus on economy then you'll gonna steam roll everything in front of you. does not need to be any deep tactical showdown just so that one get a feeling of some kind of aggressor combat.
The map and unit graphics, the city population and settlers, the gridmap, the unit stats... there are a lot of design similarities. Everyone's comparing this to Total War but it seems like it would appeal more to Civilization fans.
Jesus, can you change your name to something other "The Historical Gamer"? The name's currently being wasted. In the name "Ptolemaic empire", the P is silent - so it's pronounced Tol-em-ay-ic. But you're right, it is one of the successor states. Epirus is basically a Greek state, but they were ostensibly invited to the Italian peninsula. The Antigonid empire was the OG Seleucid empire, but after the badass founder of this dynasty kicked the bucket his middling son shit the bed - but they're a successor state. The Macedonia in this game is more or less accurate, in that it's basically the outer reaches (i.e. the actual Barbarian Macedonian regions) as well as Alexander's Thracian conquests. Odrysian kingdom is pronounced O-drys-ian and Dacian is pronounced Da-shi-an.

I just started playing it last week and have been enjoying it so far. Quite an achievement coming from a lone developer.
i always wanted a civ type map in the ancient world with more military options and unit info.

You can disable autoselect unit in the settings...
It’s Funny how when you mispronounce the different nations I seem to talk at the screen to correct you
Yea... I'm really bad at pronunciations, sometimes it's just fun to go with that.
Yeah, his pronunciation of Ptolemaic made me cringe.

>antigonid - some sort of balkan country?,
are you sure you want to call yourself "thehistoricalgamer"?

@@SimDeck ding ding, we have a winner

You probably should give Hegemony III: Clash of the Ancients a try, if you haven't yet :-)
This game looks easier to get to grips with then HOI4.
Any plans for a Sparta LP?
Neat! It's like a store brand total war lol
Its more like a Civ 4 copy.
give us at least 2-3 more episodes.
I'd like to see more as well.
I have 5 ready from last nights stream, so I'll at least post those over the next 5-6 days. :)
It was ok, Then they had to showed a pic of mel freakin gibsons highlander get up
Its worth buying or better to play paradox games ?
I haven't played it but this game doesn't look that good compared to other Roman styled games. Hell, just wait for Imperator Rome to come out by Paradox, it'll be a 4X grand strategy game as well. Doesn't currently have a release date though.
I'm playing it and that is fun. This is totally different than PDX games, it is much more like Civ series.

What are Grognards? I know the actual definition of that term, but not what you mean by it in this context.
Hardcore sim or strategy game players.

Was William Wallace Iberian !?
seems like it lacks the tactical part
There is no tactical combat that’s true. In that regard it’s much more like a civ or a paradox game than it is Rome total war.

This looks just an updated version of Rome Total War......
If anything, it looks like it was built on the Civ IV engine.
How?

5 min. In still no gameplay.... good luck
Tolomaic not polomaic. Silent P. Not sure who researched this.
the "historical" gamer and his call Antigonid anti-go-nid instead of AN-ti-GO-Nid.Shameful
This games looks like shit.
Too many micromanagement. This game is similar to Spartan: Gates of Troy.
Dude, stop with the history lessons and play the game please.
