- As someone who grew up watching You Can't Do That On Television (which was taped right here in Ottawa at CJOH) this was one of the highlights of the con for me.
Christine (Moose) McGlade, Doug Ptolemy, Stephanie Bauder, Justin Cammy and Abby Hagyard all talked about the show and answered questions from the audience.

Christine "Moose" Blake was my 1st childhood crush on television..
i wrote her a song, but i never got the chance to perform it for her or even tell her about it. I was late in discovering the show because i didn't have cable for a long time (& it's McGlade, not "Blake").

Not too bad for a Canadian import... just look at Alannis Morisette, Total Drama Island, or Scott Pilgrim for other great examples of pop culture from that one place between Alaska and the other parts of the US that isn't Hawaii.
That's when Nickelodeon was in the beginning stages of being a sick cult for pedophiles, like the Mickey mouse club... This show was used to condition us cheer on and popularize, vulgarity... That's why we have so much crap, now..

I would love to see a Halloween episode.. James Charles without makeup will not be seen tonight so we can bring you something that hasn't been canceled.
Jennifer it would be nice and beautiful but the culture of UA-cam and modern era would sanitize way too much. The show worked because it was edgy and gross without you noticing it. Remember you can't even make a celebrity joke without someone going off the deep end.
Moose and Lisa were the glue that held the show together, Allistair Gillis made it all fun for all of us

I never knew Doug wore glasses. We miss you Ross Eweich; Barth, Senator Preevort; Dad; Peter Cockroach; Italian Producer Mr. Panzarrotti, El Capitano, Mr. Schidtler, but most of all you were awesome Les Lye. They were all awesome too. Thanks for posting this, from a fan forever in Los Angeles, California (USA)
Cool. I'm glad so many people remember the show and liked this video. Barth was my favourite Les Lye character closely followed by Dad.

What a blast! Who would have known a bunch of Canadians kiss would be the standard of cool. Miss the firing squad and Barf's burgers. Oh and the main set, oh and the lockers. Good times!

Zombie Sorcerer it's been several years now, 13 to be exact, when the internet lit up with reports of a DVD set, and I was beyond excited! I sorta gave up on any hope regarding a box set around 2015 (10 years later) and decided to let fate intervene. If it happens then it happens, and I will be the first to snag the set. I'm just not in that mode of despair anymore. The release would have to be immaculate: all uncut episodes from 1981-1990! The '79 season would be interesting to have on the set as well! Also, the set should include tons of behind the scenes footage, interviews from that era and several new convos as well, and maybe even a few '80s commercial spots for the original broadcasting of the show from here in America and Canada. We're in 2018, soon approaching 2019; it's time to give this show some justice, not just for us fans, but for the actors and their families as well! Not holding my breath though.

Didn't the studio with the masters of the series burn down, thus preventing a release?
3Rayfire I heard in a comment on another videos the master tapes weren’t lost in a fire but who knows?
I watched this after school in Australia in the very conservative 80's. I felt like these kids my age understood me.
Even in the most conservative 80s it wasn't as bad as is these days
The issue was never "Conservative" or "Liberal," and that's why the show was actually funny. It never got political at all, never took sides for or against either side. It was just plain fun.

Now you are 42. That is the same age I will turn in October. Is age still being good to you because my face looks like father time is beating me in the face with a meat tenderizer? All those hideous lines are soul-crushing.
That show meant everything to me, as a kid growing up in the 80's!! We watched it every day after school, laughed, and it really made Nickelodeon a big thing. Cable TV was brand new too back at that time - and this show was cutting edge! There will never be a show this great! Great to see [some] of the cast now as adults!

Thank you for posting. I was able to watch this on CBC before it was sold to Nick. It is unfortunate that kids now don't have a show that is funny, thoughtful and basically clean without resorting to foul language or sexual content (except mildly in shows that are focusing on it via innuendo). Still seems a mystery why the show was cancelled then basically removed from the Nickelodeon website, as if it never existed. Which is odd since it spun off many game shows that were worth a fortune to the network.
I never knew as a kid that it was on Nickelodeon or that anyone outside of Ottawa had even heard of it. I just thought it was a local show. When I eventually found out people in the U.S. were watching it I was really surprised and thought that was pretty cool. You're right about it being unfortunate that nothing like it is currently being produced.

Yea, I’ve gotta agree. He was being rude. The comment about “All the important ones here”. Didn’t some pass away before this was filmed? Also, immediately asking “Did you cast Alanis?” As if she was the most popular character. He was being very phony.

Only one I didn’t remember was Stephanie, she must have been on in the later years, I only watched until about 86, I stopped after Moose left.

It's fun to see them...but it's such a long time ago they seem really uncomfortable with the panel. Could have used a moderator who maybe had some thoughts...I dunno.

So do I. I was guessing that the reason this show wasn't on DVD-complete series was due to copyright law international. No that wasn't the case, I found out 7-10 years ago the studio burned down and they lost the VHS tapes.
1 minute in and am already done with the host. Maybe this is very meta and part of a sketch...like an 8yr old's idea of what an overly flamboyant host is like.
I watched a few of the old episodes. I don't think one could have a kid's show with a dad with beer, a cigar smoking doctor, and a teacher with a Hitler mustache.
To say nothing of kids being kept in dungeons and facing firing squads.

It kind of seems that the Simpsons was influenced by YCDTOTV. A lot of the Les Lye characters, especially the Dad figure. The name Barth being used. Anyone else?

I don’t go to a lot of cons but, this is pretty low budget right?
Not quite sure how to answer that…yes? The con itself is huge in a massive building and the main hall is very big, but only for celebrity Q&As that can fill it.
YCDTOTV is a little local TV show from the 80s so the panel was held in one of the smaller meeting rooms. I just recorded this on my phone from my seat…or was it my old Sony camcorder? Don’t remember now.

She was in later episodes of the late 80s and early 90s, clearly the most famous of the cast members.
Actually, Alanis was on, I think, six episodes in 1986.
She only did 5 episodes.

It would have been better if there was a video or a picture of the person when they were younger before you introduced the person. And never film anyone against a bright, white backgtound.

what I remember about the show includes I loved it a lot, there was a lead brown-haired girl, a lighter haired girl that the brown-haired girl picked on and called fat, contestants would get slimed when they said: "I don't know." water was thrown on them when they said "water," and the kids were not nice to each other.
The lead girl is on the panel. Christine Moose McGlade. Has the same smile and hair, just grey.
Someone has been putting a few episodes online here and there under the license of Roger price but other than that. I want a complete unedited blu ray set.
