That was my plan too, only... Now I have unlocked everything and my standing factories are so huge and ugly (like some nodes have 400 smelters/constructors build near/over them), there is just TOO MUCH to rebuild and I sigh in exhaustion just thinking about starting to rebuild and liven things up :( If I ever start a new game, I will plan accordingly from the start. Progress to endgame will be much slower, but... At least the ride there will be nice to look at.
Currently about 130 hours into my first playthrough, I've gone through the phases of "open outdoor floorplan" and "FISCIT Orange giant cube", and I'm currently in "Eastern Bloc brutalism blueprint towers" combined with "open air mega oil-rig". The cleanroom factory layout was a really neat idea, I might have to go for that one in my next build...
I definitely prefer the industrial look. I’m not nearly patient enough to spend hours upon hours just making things look pretty so I really appreciated you telling us to just play the way you want to play. That being said your builds look fantastic and I’m really looking forward to using some of the tips and tricks you just taught me!
I have the architectural creativity of a concrete box so i found this video really helpful as it contained simple ideas that look great and that i'm capable of doing. Thanks! :)
@@TotalXclipse not gana lie watching your videos has got me back into satisfactory after like 2 years and ive used a lot of your videos as insporation (storage room) and i just built my first "big" factory (fuel power, circut boards, computers and heavy modular frames) and im at a stand still in making it look good. I would be chopped to bits if you could take a look at it and see what we could do with it! Would be awsome to be featured in one of your videos!
Hoping against hope that the "1.0" game version will apply some entity-priority list or another deterministic algorithm to eliminate z-fighting of foundations & other entities with overlapping faces. It's the only thing that bugs me about some of these design tricks, which otherwise look quite nice!
Same. Octagons looks awesome from afar. But when you get closer and see the flickers... yikes! A good solution would just be to add more foundation types, like a diagonal corner to get to these shapes. It is beyond me why there isn't yet :)
Unfortunately, z-fighting is a "law of physics" of polygon-based rendering, there isn't any "one weird trick game engine programmers HATE!" that solves it. There's a shenanigan involving using pillars and road barriers (which are magic) to _slightly vertically offset_ where you're building at, but that's about it.
Total. Dude. My guy. You obviously can't know this, but I think it's worth mentioning that I've started a One Note page for myself that I've stuffed with various factory screenshots to help provide inspiration, kinda like my own personal Pinterest; oh, and you're basically the primary contributor to that lol. I've already seen a few examples from you in other videos, but I would love to see more of what you'd do when faced with something akin to a "big blank concrete wall". I have a propensity for planning my factory buildings for excessive throughput, which results in me having to deal with many such things, in addition to often loooooong manifold lines. I've been experimenting with various techniques to design various manifolds in conjunction with blueprints and have been having *some* success in that regard, but I must say I am ravenous for manifold blueprint diversity.
I like having idea references. Are you on reddit? r/SatisfactoryGame has a very large community of people that love to share their work. There are some seriously amazing builders that only post there, or maybe only stream on twitch but post screenshots. Im also on other architecture reddits as well. Brutalism builds mostly. Lol
This was ultra useful to see. Just starting my first playthrough in which I want to build up (in proper factory buildings), instead of laying everything down on 1 floor height. I got the box problem right now, so this does help a lot in terms of ideas to break it up.
For my factories, i like to put a storage unit near the front of the building so that i can quickly grab an item. I'll put a tiny belt in front of the storage unit so i can quickly see what is inside. I try to have a sink connected to all of these for those spare parts.
I am finally at a point in my current playthrough where I can start making things look good. To give you an idea where I am I recently built a rubber and plastic setup. I will start building a Heavey frame factory after I finish sorting out my CP problem. Don't want to hear everyone's favorite sound! 😁
My factories look lovely from the outside. But then there's when you enter them. Chaotic, spaghetti mess, all confined within a single, compact space. Both vertically and horizontally. 🤣
These types of designs are great for when you start in the south, with a lot of poor nodes to keep it small and cosy. But... When you start in the north with a ton of pure nodes and therefor mega smelter factories... it is a lot harder to create good looking designs. Any tips for that?
Your videos are always informational and enjoyable. I said it before you were probably an architect in a previous life; if there are such things. Having said that I have currently put Satisfactory aside (as much as I love it) after Update 7 (and today Jace teased upcoming Update 8 teaser). But why? Because I'm not that good with architectural designs. Instead I am interested in sophisticated logistics. I want a train network with tens of trains transporting stuff from one end of the map to another. I came up with a plan to use trains for delivery across lower (height) parts of the map and use drones over terrain with more height. I have seen people design skybridges and swirling train tracks - come on guys that is not what we see in real life. I like it to have a more realistic engineering flavour. And yes I do play Space Engineers too. But I digress. Alas ... as is, the Satisfactory train system seems mostly broken. I reckon I am good with trains and signaling. I have Factorio maps with over 100 trains running. But after designing a map-wide infrastructure for my trains in Satisfactory, getting a single line to work is a matter of luck, not design, it seems. I have checked and checked and checked my signals and lines again and again and it simply refuses to work for certain lines and the system cannot provide a clue where the failure is. To take it to the extreme I build my train right before its "Next" destination and it fails to stop there. Just proceeds past it and stops at the following signal. I just had to quit Satisfactory in dissapointment until I hear the news that the train system has been overhauled.
I can't get the small frame pillars to align with the conveyors. Edit: They're either too high up or too low and there's no vertical nudge. Edit 2: Nevermind I figured it out. You can snap a foundation on half a meter offset.

I have a question, How can I upload my save game to the Satisfactory Calculator map. I tried looking for help and couldn't finding thing that actually walks you through it. I uploaded my Steam ID but that didn't do anything...
that coffee cup was empty its fake! the real one is always full! lol those designs are awesome, im sure i will use some in the future or variations of :)
I'd love it if there were some smoke mechanics/considerations, and ways to ventilate. But that could be akin to terraforming and would probably be somewhat taxing and complicated to do. I can live without it.
Problem is... 1) You dont have resources coming in to you building or out, how do you solve it? 2)Obviously some kind of architect-fan and lack the ground, streets and city designing... Buildings just clip in to ground.
Pretty sure I show how I bring the resources into the second factory, just add a train station to the outside. As for the buildings, we build the factory on top of foundations so the factory's not clipping into the ground. If you're worried about logistics place foundations at the same level as the buildings lower level and run trains, trucks or conveyors. This video just depicts the factory itself. Hence why there's no street design...
If only this game had combat to break up the monotony of build build build. Also structural integrity like Valheim. Make us work for them 3rd and 4th level buildings.

^ This, it is super useful because it is so accessible to many of us. We could all do this!
Have you ever thought of hopping into viewers saves and helping with build design? I think that would make for some good videos/streams!
good idea!
Funnily enough, I originally mentioned it in this video but cut the section out as the video was too long at 25 mins.

You can fix most z-fighting by swapping color/foundation-type of the object(s).
Unfortunately, z-fighting is a "law of physics" of polygon-based rendering, there isn't any "one weird trick game engine programmers HATE!" that solves it.
