I was doing the repair as part of a live stream, I forgot to record the part of it showing exactly how I improved the display, but basically I used IPA to clean everything and bent the sides of the metal frame in a bit to close up the gap so it hugged the plastic frame properly, this closed the gap that the strips sit in, holding them straighter.
Nice
One trick I read was to add a little solder to the contacts if merely tightening the frame doesn't work.
It's amazing what IPA and a couple cardboard wedges will do!
GR8T post editing...
Nice. I had one of these for many years, visible in some of my early videos I think.
I used to fix these things, but very little ever went wrong.
Wavetek built beautiful equipment years ago and I assume the same since Fluke acquired them, but I hate those zipper strips.
Great repair Steve. 🍻
I am working on a Wavetek 188, that has no output, just power supply ripple. It worked for 10 minutes after I got it. The power supply seems ok, but I still suspect the power supply. The troubleshooting chart is no help.
Nice repair but I was curious how you fixed the display? What did you do to solve the plastic frame warping problem??

i have had trouble with those kind of zebra connections, dont like them
Menly men don't read manuals... ( *grunts in neanderthal* )
Why didn't you show how you put the display back together again and solved the excess space in the zebra strip guide slots?
That was the main fault on this device and we now still don't know how you fixed/improved it 🙄 This video made us none the wiser.
Just clean it with IPA and shove some cardboard between the metal housing and the plastic zebra strip holder where it's bowed out.

@@TheDefpom Bending the sides of the frame would have been my first try to a solution too when I saw the footage of the current state of it. Nice to know that that worked.
