By far the best lens review I've watched. It's unfortunate that the accident occured but you were a lifesaver. Tamron should appreciate your work and do the necessary.
That's an amazing story about how a Tamron 28-200mm lens saved the life of an stranded climber. From now on, I'll be carrying a Tamron lens everywhere I go as you never know when you may be in need of a rescue. Thank you Tamron!
Another great video Jake......Made incredible by the rescue footage. Man those chopper pilots are something else. To hold that chopper steady, 15 feet from the rock face, in that weather.....Amazing.
Wow. This channel is incredible. I found this video searching for 28-200 reviews by working photographers/videographers and just wow. So thrilled to have found your work.
That's the most practical review I have watched by far 😊, Jake can you please help me which Nd filter you were using on this lense, and if possible tell me few more you have liked.
Wow, great video Jake! Not only was that good info on the Tamron 28-200 lense, but what incredible footage for shooting the live action drama that unfolded before you! Great job, and glad you were in the right place at the right time!
Thanks for the review Jake and for your action. I love the ability to use the crop in on the A7III as well (video at least). A trick I used to use when photographing events years back was running with two cameras; a full frame for wide and med med telephoto lens’s and a crop frame with a 70-200 to get an extra reach as needed. Also you have steady hands!
You’re welcome and the crop in mode is something I use almost every day. It’s so useful to get just a little bit more reach when needed! Thanks much. Cheers
Great practical review, thank you. I have the 17-28 and 28-75. The 28-200 looks ideal for carrying on holiday, as the sole lens, to the deserts of the western US.
Agreed! If I hadn't just purchased the 70-180 I would have purchased this lens and been quite happy with it. the deserts of the western US sounds like an amazing place to be and photograph! Cheers!!
I think you just sold me on this lens, as well as the 17-28 from your other vlogs. I'm just switching over to mirrorless and I was lost in the world of numerous lenses to start out with (my head has been spinning). Great capture of the rescue sequence!
Looks like a pretty cracking lens. I've tried their 20mm lens and was razor sharp so believe how sharp it is. I'm all for all in one lenses so just need a FF body to appreciate something like this. Cool location for filming and photos

Google, Fb, German capital and so on, really every vista is destroyed, and with Hurtigruten Cruise-ship you can now only travel 16 minutes along the Norwegian coast without seeing wind turbines, and it's to become worse, much worse!

Thank you very much for your sharing! Now is in 2023, do you still recommend Tamron 28-200 for traveling? Or, do you have any other recommendations? Thank you in advance!
Thank you for these videos! I have been through hours of your content, getting back into photography and doing research. I've tried to find this in your videos but do you have any tips for keeping the sony/tamron camera body and lenses clean after being out in salt weather environments? Thanks
What a story! Thank you. May I ask if you need "tell" your Sony A7RII what the focal length have your Tamron? I mean becouse this is not the lens from Sony. Do you need to make some adjustment on steady shot focal length?
Do you think the upcoming Tamron 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3 Di III RXD lens will have OS? I too LOVE my Tammy 28-75 mm, except for the flippy lens hood. Is that better on the 28-180 mm?
I don't think it will even though I wish and hope it does. The lens hood on the 28-200 is the same as the rest of the Tamron lenses soooo... I am glad Tamron is releasing good affordable options for Sony shooters though!
@@JakeSloan I'm not interested if no stabilization. For my 28-75 I dropped the lens hood and bought best quality B+W anti-reflex UV-filter, and think it render colors and contrast even better with the filter on. I even love the vignette of the Tammy, I tried to replace it with vignette in C1, but always end up liking the vignette from my Tammy more. It is my walk around lens, and only bring other lenses if I have some special plan or ideas.
Great review and real world test my dude! Decided to snag one from your aff. link from this and your recommendation on X a few weeks ago. Nice Christmas deals going on! Looking forward to trying it out once it arrives!
Would you recommend this lens over the 24-105mm f4? I've been comtemplating whether to get this lens or 24-105mm f4 sony. I love the focal length this 28-200 covers, just not sure how stable it is handheld, since I mainly do more video.
@@JakeSloan Thanks for the quick response, let me change the question, if you're going on a road trip and you have both of these lense, but can only take one, which would you pick?
The price...for the win. Great review. You really lean into it. 😉 And then....those helicopter shots FOR THE WIN! Very cool. Good that you were there and could help.
I just bought this lens and looked at dozens of reviews before deciding. Honestly, this one is the best and turns into an action movie at one point ;) With a decent narration from your perspective :D Keep reviewing camera gear, but maybe with less exciting twists. For the sake of others ;)

Most of this was filmed with the 28-200. There are a few places where I filmed with the 17-28 and those are only because I wanted to show the actual 28-200 lens

That is a great review! Just got the 17-28mm and 28-75mm f/2.8 last week and now for sure I will be returning the 28-75mm f/2.8 (still debating on sigma 16-28mm f/2.8 that is wider and reviews shows a bit tighter at 28mm) but still debating to purchase this lens only or have this one as a daily/outdoor event lens with flash/strobes and add 35-150mm f/2-f/2.8 for newborn/family/wedding/lowlight event photography. Would you say the sharpness are at the same level regardless of the f/ stop differences when compared with 28-75mm or 35-150mm?
How did you find this lens with the zoom on and filming? I need a zoom lens for more wedding videography woulf you recomemd this or something different
What an adventure! Thankful you were there to lend a hand. Thanks also for the review, I think this lens may seal the deal on the MILC eco-system I'm buying into (Sold all my Nikon DSLR kit 2 years ago). Loaded question, but how would you pit the Sony 24-105 4.0 against this lens? Great content, Sub'd!
This lens will give you a lot more zoom in the telephoto lens and on sharpness they will be pretty close but I think this will win out overall. If you plan to do a lot of handheld shooting then the Sony will do better since it has OSS built in. Either one will serve you very well for a single lens. Tamron is also coming out with a 70-300 that would pair well with the sony if you decided to go that route but then get a more telephoto lens later. Cheers!
@@JakeSloan Thanks Jake, good advice. I rented the A7III last year with the 4.0 and really enjoyed it, but with 6 kids the reach of the 200 would be useful. The G2 28-75 is quite a bit better optically, certainly at the wide end. It's basically perfectly sharp wide open from corner to corner. But you have to ask yourself if the 28-200 would be good enough, which it certainly is.

It is really nice to have the extra reach when out and about. Not having to worry about switching lenses when time is of the essence is really nice
@@JakeSloan Thank you for your response, and your amazing video!
One hell of an amazing review
Thank you
I own one of these and use on Sony A6400. It works like a 300m on cropped sensor, and I love it. Btw. This is the most adventure-filled photo/lens video ever. lol. :)
Lol thanks
Hello sir.Can you tell me if the zoom ring ia a little bit stiff? Because i just bought it and it is hard to rotate the zoom ring.thank you.
Mine was not too stiff but it was more stiff than some zoom rings I’ve used
how you buy this 28-200 instead of the 70-180 if I already have the 28-70?
You certainly could. I would still lean to the 70-180 if you need to film/photograph in lower light.
How is this lens compare to Sony 55 to 210mm ?
this lens is sharper and has better performance in low light
Its a great reason to bring a super zoom. Not needing to change lenses in environments that are super wet and humid. Not only that but dusty
agreed
Kudos for the rescue assistance :)
thank you
would this lens be good for nature and wildlife images.(birds and stars)
yes it would if paired with a high mp camera like the a7riv or a7rIII
Great video matev
Thanks!
@@JakeSloan your very welcome, I have a question for you. How did you get your photo to fill your youtube banner on your homepage? What size did you export or what did you use? I'm really struggling with this
Heck of a setup just to review a lens, Jake :D :D Well done for capturing the action as it unfolded, glad to read she was expected to recover.
Thank you so much! It was crazy to witness and be part of this event. Cheers
Can you use this on the A7ii?
yes you can
what camera
this was the A7III
Tamron 28-75mm vs, 28-200mm Comparison?
Unfortunately I don't have the 28-200 anymore but the 28-75 will do better in low light than the 28-200
At what focal length does the aperture change?
I believe I show you in the video
Awesome job! Thank you!
you're welcome
great work bro. well done.
Thank you
Good review, that is a very nice lens for sure.
