I think withholding Ozai in the animated series only worked because we the audience didn’t know him or what to expect, so for us, it felt like a big reveal. However, with the live-action, we already know Ozai and already know what to expect from him, therefore a delayed reveal won’t be as impactful. By introducing Ozai earlier we can spend more time with his character and ideally get a more fleshed-out character.
I agree!
Plus having Daniel Dae Kim, you definitely have to show him
Agreed, We didn't really even know Ozai in the cartoon and it felt like a wasted opportunity imo.
Plus the actor who plays him is hot af, why would they not reveal him....also he voiced Hiroshi Sato in Legend of Korra, how weird is that. He is an Avatar veteran.
The first time I remember seeing DDK was as Jin in Lost and he brought some amazing depth to that character. It’ll be interesting to see if he can make Ozai sympathetic in anyway.
I honestly never saw anything wrong with the more intricate design for Aang’s tattoos from the movie. I think it gives a deeper understanding of how much work one had to do to be acknowledged as an Airbending Master. They seemed to have found a good balance between the cartoon and the Shamalama version.

The one gripe I have with the arrow from the movie is that it wasn’t as obvious as the one from the cartoon. In the movie it seemed like you could easily miss it if all you did was glance at Aang. Here there’s no way you could miss his arrow.
9:32 A lot of people seem to think that it's actually Avatar Kyoshi in that scene, having "possessed" Aang like she did in the animated show during his trial, which could be supported by the fact that the clothing appears to be green. She's supposed to get a lot more screentime this season so it might be possible. I could see her channeling her anger at the fire benders through Aang in a moment of need to protect her village.
Since it was revealed she's half air nomad in her books her spamming Airbending and being POWERFUL with that element makes sense. Maybe they could dive into that a little bit since she is getting more screen time
Yeh.. and at 7:41 I believe that's zuko making some ground research. Some say he's not seen aang yet so he just hangs a pic of an airbender who he just imagines.personally I don't believe it....but it's cool prediction i say.
Nah I think it’s aang, and the revealing of his face is the aftermath of it
Great theory! I love this!
Also, since we do see Yangchen - Will we maybe see her too?
Maybe thats a plottpoint in the show - That Aang gets frequently possesed by his past lifes.
Could be a cool storyline
So far it's looking very promising, and with the One Piece show having received pretty positive feedback it seems that Netflix might have cracked the live action code. I've been cautiously hopeful but having seen the trailer I'm excited now. Let's hope it lives up to the expectations.
I think adding Suki's mother makes a lot of sense. The mayor of Kyoshi Island in the series is just this little random grumpy old man. Making the major a woman is more powerful, also with the implication that she is most likely a former Kyoshi warrior herself. It gives Kyoshi Island and Suki a lot more depth that will be important to reflect back on when Suki and the warriors come back in the later seasons.
I love this take
6:17 I disagree, enough with muted colors. I want to tell things apart on the screen. Also, if they had toned it down, there would be complaints anyways. I think it's gorgeous.
Also, he is an air nomad. They're all bright and happy
I agree with you! I love the bright colors!
They were just complaining about little mermaid being too muted. I feel sorry for the production teams because nothing will satisfy nit pickers like this guy
I think in the beginning of the trailer the “fireballs” are actually fire bender using the their enhanced power to fly. If you look closely they move very weirdly and look like miniature humans instead of flying objects.
That would make so much sense as it was very hard for a non-airbender to get to the air temples!
It makes sense that they are only capable of doing it during Sozins Comet.
"They fly now? They fly now!:
@@berengustav7714 Ironically, the joke would make much more sense in Avatar than in Star Wars, cause SW already had jetpack troopers ever since the Mandalorians like Boba Fett and the Clone Jet Troopers. Personal flight in Avatar is quite a rare feat, and an entire army doing it would be noteworthy.
yooo that’s a great catch! Airbenders could easily escape by flying but now with the comet they wouldn’t be able to with firebenders turning into rockets😂
The voiceover isn't Iroh, it was confirmed to be monk Gyatso. 5:48
yes, I was thinking the same thing.
I'm fine with Momo looking cartoony. I think if they tried to make a flying lemur realistic looking it would've been too uncanny valley
Human Teeth Sonic: ALTA Edition
I honestly have no problem with them making Suki’s mother the mayor as I think that really just replaced the exiting mayor in blue who was never named and didn’t do very much, with a character who just by existing adds an extra dimension to Suki’s character. Also tbh, I always found it a strange choice that in an episode all about female empowerment and deconstructing Sokka’s sexism that they made the badass warrior women still ultimately answer to a man.
It would be cool if Suki’s mother was a former leader of the Kyoshi warriors as well and Suki’s working hard to live up to her example- it would be something she and Sokka have in common, because he idolises his warrior father in the same way, it could be a point of similarity that softens her to him and that they bond over. You wouldn’t even have to have Suki’s mother be an overly active player to have this work either, although maybe she’s also going to be the one who tells Kyoshi’s story, preserving the island’s cultural heritage could be considered an important aspect of her role (which would make sense with how Kyoshi literally created the Dai Lee to preserve Ba Sing Se’s cultural heritage, it could be shown as a reoccurring element of the Earth Kingdom’s ideals). So yeah, I don’t think she has to be a big character, but even small tweaks to a small role can make for a more impactful character beat
I think based on the trailer with the duel between zuko and ozai, they only show the platform. I don’t think we can rule out other people in the fire nation being there yet.
I don't think either. The camera is too close to the "stage" to say if there's audience or not. I actually think there is one, they just left a bit of space between the fight and the audience so that the people don't get burned
Yea I agree, there probably is an audience, we just don’t see them in the trailer
Starting with the Airbender massacre really helps set the tone for this live action. I'm happy to watch it
Ozai's handling in the show is probably on the weaker side honestly. They spent so much characterizing azula but really spent almost no effort showing the audience any reason why we should be afraid of Ozai in the animation. Hopefully an earlier reveal means he'll get more screen time to show why hes the badass fire bender we should actually fear.
I really think since the run time for season one is going to be longer than the original show, and the fact they probably cut filler episodes from being drawn out side quests to passing adventures it might provide the space to explore backstories and relationship dynamics a lot more.
Yeah,He should kick a bunch of @ss before the comet.
Makes so much sense to build him up as the antagonist early in the live action
The fact that we see no audience when zuko gets his scar could be that they edited them out for the trailer. They did the same with Toby and Andrew in No Way Home.
I think it looks really good. I’m loving the cast so far and the production quality is immaculate. I’m very optimistic about this.
The cast LOOKS amazing. But without a single line actually delivered by the core cast in the trailer... That's probably the one worry I have.
@@Nomadic813 I don’t think that’s cause for concern. This was a teaser and teasers generally only have voiceovers and the voiceover itself was very well delivered. It’s not meant to give you everything all at once, it’s just meant to peak your interest.
@@justinh4576the one piece teaser trailer had dialogue from all the main cast iirc, but it was also longer. I agree it's nothing to worry about yet, but assuming the studio wanted to hide bad acting as long as possible, this is what they would have done
I think Ozai’s face being shown is fine. It wouldn’t have the same suspense considering that we literally know whose playing him, and he’d have to be in full costume anyway and there’s no way pictures wouldn’t leak. It would also be tricky to shoot around and would have run the risk of looking awkward rather than ominous. Plus, this could actually help with Ozai feeling more of an active participant and threat in the plot, he was a bit of a looming, distant hypothetical in the original rather than a known quantity and while it worked, I think making him a bit more present would make him feel more dangerous.
Also, while I don’t like the idea of this as a motive, given that Daniel Dae Kim is the biggest name in the cast, they’re likely going to be using his presence to draw new people to the show given a large majority of the cast are brand new to the industry, or have only had smaller roles in the past. He’s likely going to be involved in a lot of the press and promotion for the show, so underutilising him would be a mistake, especially given he’s very likely being quite well paid for this role. Even if there is some corporate reasoning behind this choice, I don’t have any doubts about the actor’s motives. He voiced characters in both ATLA and LOK which makes him one of three original voice actors currently confirmed to be joining the show- the others being George Takei playing Koh the Face Stealer and of course James Sie returning as the cabbage merchant.
So yeah from both a promotion perspective and an in series perspective, showing his face and expanding his role makes more sense,
One thing you've missed: at 0:33 of the trailer, a hawk appears flying towards a tower. That's the scene when Zhao receives the letter telling him about his promotion to admiral at "The Blue Spirit" (Book1 Chapter 13)
I love everything about this trailer. I don't think Appa or Momo look bad. They are VERY faithful to the sourcematerial. I am starting to wonder if it was actually Brain and Michael who wanted to get a bit more away from the original, and they left, because the studio stood to close to it.
I don't see any issue with revealing Ozai. If they had made it a mystery who plays him, then yeah, it should've stayed secret. But since we knew who'd play him, its not such a big moment.
I actually thought, we saw how Ozai attacked Zuko tbh - Where did I see that shot before?
I love the simple design of Aangs tattoos, and even that all the symbols come up, when it lights.
It all works so well, and looks so authentic.
Have you ever seen a RL Monk, Morgan? Because the vibrant colours are actually very realistic as well, and I'm glad they stood with it.
I'm really excited for the show - Only 4 month left xD
I wanna add something,in the show aang said you have to fly to get in the air temple and we didn't know how fire benders reach to temple ,in the beggining of the trailer we see fire benders fly with fire thats how they get in ,thats the proof of makers how much care about this show
This trailer was so good, they made an animated TV show about it 😃
The total runtime of the Netflix live action is actually longer than the original animation and I'm pretty sure we are not getting the Great divide nor the fortune teller. So all things considered, I think we have plenty of time to flesh out all of the characters and maybe introduce some scenes only hinted at on the animation like the air nomad genocide 😢
Yeah, they have more than enough time for the important episodes to have their screentime, and even flesh them out more.
I can't wait to see how they reference the Great Divide lol. "Ehh, let's keep flying!"
Is Jet going to be a character? I mean yes they can leave out a lot of unneeded scenes and characters ie the fortune teller or even Bato. But what about Jet? Or even the Deserter? Will we see the Northern air benders? I can’t wait but I wish that it was 10 episodes not 8. But given the budget I can understand.
Also season 2 was awesome and so many more characters and arcs! But somehow they are bringing it down to 8 episodes. 😮 how are they going to pull that off.
With season 3 the first few episodes can be rushed without any problems because the last 4 are the important parts but seriously. How with just 8 episodes….just hope it all works out.
I don't think Aang's clothes are too vibrant. Monk clothing in real life is this vibrant.
I think ep 12 (Storm) with Aang and Zuko’s flashbacks could be better utilized as flashbacks shown throughout the series. Sort of pointing to their parallels as well as giving us some extra context in their actions throughout the show. Without it needing an entire episode
The trailer looks great and promising.
But I've learned to not get my hopes high when it comes to live adaptations.
Hopefully, this doesn't disappoint 😊
I just need Sokka and Aang to make me laugh like in the animated show
After One Piece, I finally believe in LA again :D
@@UkuleleProductions Once Piece is great, but one good adaptation isn't enough to make up for all the disappointments we've had so far.
@@moon03726no but One Piece could be the first ray from a sun of LA coming in the horizon.
It looke MUCH better than I could have ever imagined. I’m so excited for this to release.
I just want to know what reasons caused the original creators to leave.
Well, we need to remember that was 3 years ago, back when this was in early development. Changes were made between then and now.
They never really explained, they just cited "Creative differences" which indicates that the creators and the Netflix team could not agree how the ATLA should be adapted to LA. We did get the creation of Avatar Studios out of it though.
This trailer definitely left me more intrigued about this show. The one thing I'm most curious about will be the changes and omissions from the original show, since there's only eight episodes for this, which would be longer than the episodes from the original show for sure.
they also have at least 20 more minutes run time than the entirety of season 1, and if they cut filler stuff (looking at you great divide)
then they can actually add more content without having to cut anything important at all
They have around the same runtime in total, so they probably aren't going to cut very much, at least not like the shitty movie
Watching your reviews and breakdowns are almost as excited as the shows. Thanks for covering most if not all my fav shows 😊
So excited about this, love to relive the story in a new way- quality looks so good!
I have every finger on my hands crossed!
One thing I heard is that the OG Cabbage Guy is coming back and playing his own character
I was waiting for you to do this one.
I'm actually really hyped for the show, seems like it will do the original show way more justice than the movie that shall not be named ever did
Way way way more justice
I'm so glad that you will be covering the series. You have so much details in every video that you do. You are the GOAT
They can really use the longer episodes yet less episodes format to get rid of the filler episodes like the Divide in order to flesh out the characters.
Bryke leaving is actually a blessing; they're not as top tier as people think. A lot of the credit should go to Aaron Ehasz. Without him, you really felt the writing suffer in Korra.
I'm actually intrigued about this show. Things being different, moved around, or left out might not be entirely bad.
Finally someone else realizes how impactful Aaron was to the original show! Mike and Bryan remind me a lot of George Lucas in that he struck gold with the original trilogy but went off the rails with the sequels. Mike and Bryan had such a great world built around the avatar and a mysterious mythos and they (in my opinion) just about ruined most of that throughout different parts of LoK. I was glad they left the series. With how great One Piece was, I really feel TLA will be even better.
Ill be honest, them leaving the project got me feeling that the Live Action isn’t going to work. But now that you do mention it, I definitely understand. While they created the show, they weren’t the only people on the writing staff. Makes me thing they wanted more creative control and the production wanted to flesh out other characters like Azula and Ozai (i’d rather that than episodes like the Great Divide and Fortune Teller)
We need secret tunnel
@@TomAndersonn I don't think they will ignore major plot points like secret tunnel, that's where Aang and Katara drew a bit closer. At the very least, we'll have strong references to lore like that, I even expect a reference to the crisis we all know as the Great Divide 😄
F off. Bryke created the show and LOK except for season 2 is fine. Also Ehasz made The Dragon Prince, which is an OK show but not a great one.
Bryke leaving the Netflix remake is def a red flag.
The simple arrow is so much better u could barely even see the other one

Soooo excited looks great so far!!
I really feel that it doesn’t make sense to not show lord ozai’s face. Most of the people who will be watching this version already know what he looks like.
Trailer thoughts: LOVED IT!!!
There still may be an audience to witness Zuko getting burned... We only see a very close up shot in this teaser!
I’m honestly not that upset with how Momo looks. It’s not like I expected them to train a real Lemur to be hooked up to a harness and pretend to fly and then do cgi work around him. He about as “real” as a flying lemur cans look. It can always get better in future seasons.
9:13 makes me happy
That’s probably Zulo at 7:40
Trailer looks great and so excited
Aang zuko and iroh looks spot on
ive been watching other breakdowns of the trailer in hopes of finding someone like new rockstars. youre pretty close. subscribed.
10:09 WHAATTT how is that bad, that looks soo good in my opinion and momo looks so cute
It looks promising, and if this is anything like the Live Action One Piece, it's gonna be a good show. I actually didn't mind the Arrow design in that movie that never existed, but I prefer the OG design :D
I saw the trailer for this and was thinking about telling you Morgan to do a video on it
Also a great detail is the 'cabbage cart' just behind the entrance of Omashu
I'm so excited! I love that Kataras actress is an actual native from Canada, similar to water tribe.. Azula looks dope! But Momo looks like zabomafoo:(
I'M SO EXCITED! LOVE YOU AVATAR!!! 😍🔥💕
I just saw this trailer last night. I can't wait to see it.
That’s definitely zuko hanging up the picture of aang but this show I have high hopes for 🔥🔥🔥
I think the outfit for Aang is perfect. Those colors are the colors monks wear in real life c:
I really wish they would've used contacts for the water tribe. That being said as long as they don't pronounce Aang "Ong" I'll be happy
I’ve heard the actor of Gordon Cormier say “aang” so hopefully they won’t lmao
It comes out on my birthday, and I’m thrilled
can't wait for u to review the series, my eyes got hurt watching it
When the gates of Omashu open, on the right side inside Omashu, you can see what looks like a bunch of cabbages next to a little shop!
I feel mixed.... I think it's more about how the trailer was created than about the show itself. I can see the investment in quality from sets, CGI and costume....but I didn't hear any person talk and act except just action scenes or voice over....so this makes me nervous about the acting and character portrayal which is absolutely crucial. I am worried it's going to be like the Mulan which has beautiful sets...but the character was changed to try to accommodate a live action version.
I think not having the suspense fire lord reveal, is not a bad option. I assume most avatar fans have been there, done that, and I don't think it would have that much of an impact if they had gone with the 'mysterious fire lord' scenes. Maybe new viewers might have found it intriguing, however, if the character is intimidating and domineering enough, I believe this could be quite effective for viewers (both old and new fans).
Omg I'm excited 😊
Please do another one on the new trailer!
Yay! Now u have more Avatar content to talk about lol I’m SUPER excited for this. I love live action remakes. Hopefully this will bring back the avatar fan base and maybe a Amusement park in the future lol
I wish Zuko scar was more gruesome. 2:30 Sokka hair is not shaved on the sides and Katara should be darker but it might be the lightening everything else is amazing
😮😮this would be a hit
truly looking forword to this show
The trailer was awesome, They nailed the avatar the last airbender cartoon to a T
They will be removing some elements but ones that I don't think anyone would miss... Like The great divide.
Also if you add up the total minutes of the first season of ATLA vs the total.l projected minutes of this Netflix show, the Netflix show will actually be a little over 20 minutes longer. So they will likeley expand on other things.
i’m curious about this show and hoping it will be good as the original animated show
I'm impressed by the trailer.. Definitely cautiously optimistic
By the way while not mentioned in the video firebenders in this show can summon their own flames like the original as opposed to the movie where they only controlled open fires
Well except Iroh.
When they ran away yelling, “he’s making fire out of nothing!” I cracked up!
My brother who was watching said, “I bet if they see someone making love out of nothing at all, they’ll vaporize.”
Love the video can you do Barty crouch senior and Tom riddle senior?
Yes!
Withholding Ozai in the LA wouldn’t work because we already know who is playing him and how he looks like.
This looks promising, I'll definitely check it out when it streams on Netflix!
I wish they didn't showcase Fire Lord Ozai yet. I loved the build up to seeing him in season 3
I'm just happy appa doesn't have creepy feet 😂
I like the simple arrow, I just wish it was smaller
I got goosebumps when the theme song started playing
I was smiling broadly.
So what i think is kinda slept on, is the live action series has a total runtime at least 20 minutes longer than season 1 of the cartoon. Meaning, if they cut filler stuff (ahem great divide ahem) they can add content to make the story better without having to cut anything important at all
So far we see the fire nation taking the air temple and the air nomads trying to fight back...but.. wasn't it an ambush??? Didn't they not have time to fight back??
What do you think they would just kill them all instantly without anyone having time to react? Ambushes definitely give the attackers an advantage, but it’s not hopeless
@chrisrubbe661 understood that it wouldn't be completely hopeless but I only say this because the air nomads had no form of military. So I feel like their initial instinct, considering they are not prone to violence, would be either self defense or to stand down. And self-defense can only get u so far in a case where people are trying to actually kill u. I don't think much of a "fight" would have been put up. But then again this was only like a second of a trailer so idk how they are actually gonna portray that scene in the movie.
Suki was a fantastic surprise. I need to see more of the action to see if the CGI feels good, at the very least it seems to be very faithful to the series. I wonder how much they'll fit for the 8 episodes? Or rather, I wonder what they'll cut in order to fit the plot in 8 episodes (of unknown length I believe?)
I've read that each episode will be an hour long, which means the entire season will be 480 minutes long, while the first season of the animation is about 260 minutes long, which means, the live action will last longer. So I don't think the time will be an issue.
It's not Iroh monologuing, it's monk Gyatso.
The narration of the teaser was actually Monk Gyatso, not Iroh.
Its 20 episodes in 8 episodes BUT each episode is an hour long. Each episode of avatar is like 23 mins. So, it's essentially 2.5 episodes per one episode. And they'll probably cut quite a few episodes out of season 1 which is okay because some of them are unnecessary/filler. This means we'll actually get MORE content that wasn't in the show.
The run time of the season is actually 20 minutes longer than the original animated season, so they have enough time for everything, especially after cutting filler episodes like the Great Divide and Fortune Teller.
I definitely like the new arrow design.
I'm here watching this breakdown, and thinking how awesome it could be if you do a breakdown of every episode of the series. I know it's a lot of work but damn I know I'll need it when the show comes out. Because I love your videos and Avatar so much and it'll be so interesting to see the difference or similarities even tho I may notice them myself.
Excellent video Morgan! As always! I'm never tire of watching your videos!
Ps: now i finished the video, you said kinda what i asked here 😅 so I'm really happy 😁
Same here! Very excited 😍😍😍
We already know who's casted as ozai so he was revealed before the show even came out
2:02 i like that too
Please do episode breakdowns like what you did with the Percy show!!!🙏🏻
I love the vibrant colors in not only aang's costume but the others aswell.
Please keep Jet!!!
He’s already been casted. Sebastian Amoruso.
9:20 the designs in the arrow are from the spirt Rava
I really hope we get iconic filler episodes in this series, secret tunnel song and giant buff guy play Toph in ember island players screaming is a must.
I loved the simple arrow.
They will be removing some elements but ones that I don't think anyone would miss... Like The great divide.
Also if you add up the total minutes of the first season of ATLA vs the total projected minutes of this Netflix show, the Netflix show will actually be a little over 20 minutes longer. So they will likeley expand on other things.
What I will say, is so long as the CGI looks good, the story line is generally the same, and they retain key scenes that are important to the characters arch’s I’m personally fine with them moving things around and adding/removing things. I feel like live action remakes don’t need to be a 1 for 1 translation and so long as it’s faithful to the source material in terms of world building that’s what’s most important.
I want cabbage man ...
There is no doubt this will be better then the movie. Trying to cramp a whole season into 1 movie is a bad idea. Although Aang's tattoo there was better as it had more detail designs rather then just a plain arrow, which is here too before lighting up. The movie even added the Air Nomad's cultural symbol. I'll give just that much. Looking at Appa's fur closely, so far it seems a tad darker to the movie. P.S. The actor playing Zuko was in Shang-Chi.
I really hope you’ll be able to finish bashing M. Night Shyamalan’s Last Airbender trilogy; you’d definitely need to make a video of what it would be like if Book 3 was made as a live action film.
Not gonna lie, I really liked the live action Aangs tattoos. It gave it personality and depth. I’m not saying this one is bad, it just doesn’t look good.
