Debbie, soars to a soprano clarity not found in today's voices, and growls in her contralto range, that expresses phrases song writers can only dream of hearing. This woman's voice remains the single most under-appreciated talent in the modern musical era. A virtuoso who's gifts are only enjoyed on long dormant UA-cam videos. Thanks Debbie for sharing your gifts with those "with ears to hear".
Those girls deserved much more recognition. Everyone should know and love "Docklands". Stevie Nicks covered it but it cannot possibly compare to their fantastic original recording.
I don't care it's 2020 yes these songs bring back so many memories. I remember back in the early 90's I had the cassette tape which included many acapella groups and they were one of them.
OMG! I was just watching a TV show when the cocktail 'mint julep' was mentioned and it reminded me of these fabulous singers I enjoyed seeing live many times live in the late 1980s.
Between 1984-1986 I saw them many times in Covent Garden (Street artists, buskers) and I think they even won a Covent Garden Street Performers Festival (not only musicians). A few years later I saw them, in Italy, as Back vocals of a famous (in Italy) songwriter, Antonello Venditti
I saw this special on PBS when I was 15 years old. I watched mostly for Rockapella but really enjoyed Mint Julleps more! I'm going to share this with a dear friend!
My parents played this a ton when I was a kid. It is such a wonderful thing to find this group on UA-cam!!! It reminds me of being a kid in the early 2000s and the nostalgia is overwhelming. Thank you for uploading this!!
This special made me a life-long Rockapella fan. And they got better and better after Spike. But God Almighty, this is the standout performance of the event.
I haven't thought about this wonderful group for decades - I saw them back in 1990 opening, along with Tom Tom Club, for Fine Young Cannibals. They were fantastic, and later joined FYC for several songs. I don't think they had an album at the time, and of course it was long before itunes or youtube, so you saw them live or nowhere. So delighted to find this clip today after a random conversation!
Jeslyn-if you are interested, I have a FB tribute page to the Juleps. A few of the ladies are on there and comment sometimes, and I post as much as I am able to find by them, including with FYC. You are very welcome to join! facebook.com/mintjulepstributepage/
Jackie Wilson is the first to come to mind. The movie was I think, "Johnny Be Good." But remember, I was in the second or third grade. I do remember Chuck Berry doing the "duck-walk." On Friday afternoons, the local TV station had a show called Teen-Time Dance Party. It was geared more toward "The In Crowd." Little kids, like me, weren't even supposed to watch!! What a Time. Never thought those days would end.
Kali O Yes I do believe they are one and the same, my god they are GREAT! Mystery Box is a fantastic piece of work, just check those songwriting credits..Mr Robert Hunter!
+Kali O +calhoun2006 +Steve Byrd you are all right on all counts! They did a lot of backing vocals for loads of people individually or collectively-Billy Bragg, Bob Geldof, Lighthouse Family, Fine Young Cannibals, Chris Rea and the list goes on and on. I'd invite you and anyone else interested to a tribute page on FB I made. A few of the ladies themselves are on there-facebook.com/mintjulepstributepage/

Wow! Thank you x
@@DebsCharlesyou deserve this level of compliment. Thank you eternally for your music!! ❤❤❤
I’ve loved these ladies since I first saw them on Spike Lee’s a cappella special years ago! What beautiful voices! Beautiful ladies!
THE AIR UP THERE. I loved that movie. Especially the ending.
Those girls deserved much more recognition. Everyone should know and love "Docklands". Stevie Nicks covered it but it cannot possibly compare to their fantastic original recording.
Fantastic Extra props to the woman doing the bass line - that ain't easy.
Damn! I haven't heard this since '94. Heard it while watching The Air Up There on cable. I was 7 1/2. Thank you for this!

Saw them at the 100 Club last night, they still have it! Very funny too.

This was early 90s actually

Whoa. I would time travel to that if I could.
Jackie Wilson must be smiling down...

How does this have so few views and likes?
I remember watching this special on PBS with my Dad. I think this was his favorite song on the show.
Ladies keep singing that great acapella, outstanding
Always fun to hear these ladies!!! 2018!
2020 ☝️☝️☝️🎵🎵🎵🎶🎶💯😎
This special made me a life-long Rockapella fan. And they got better and better after Spike. But God Almighty, this is the standout performance of the event.
I come back and listen to this whenever I think of this song. It's one of those covers that exceeds all other versions, even the original!
2022. The original just came on the radio and it bought their version to mind. I remember when this originally aired on PBS 🥰
WOW NOW THATS ACAPELLA
WOW!!!!!! Forgot how good they were!!!! !!!

spectacular
The Air Up There!!!
❤️
BRAVO!
I love this!
amazing!
This is perfection, excellence in song, even better than the classic Jackie Wilson version, and that was stupendous...
I appreciate and love their harmony but the original by the legendary Jackie Wilson is the best

Kali O Yes I do believe they are one and the same, my god they are GREAT!
Mystery Box is a fantastic piece of work, just check those songwriting credits..Mr Robert Hunter!
+Kali O I was wondering the very same thing! :o)
+skid lee Didn't the Mint Juleps also sing backup for the British band Fine Young Cannibals, and whatever happened to them?

If you truly believe that my taste being different than yours (you couch the statement in the second person, hence you are addressing me) means that I need help, then you're the one who needs help.
This is a tremendous cover and I adore the Mint Juleps but nothing can touch Jackie's original...
@JustinandChristian10 ok.....weird...who is this cause that's my aunt....what's your name...;O
I prefer Rita Coolidge's version arranged by her brother in law Booker T. Jones but the Mint Juleps have done a beautiful job. Great voices!!
naw, really?
Darts were great as well! (sorry)
good arrangement but not enough range in the harmony
GOD STFU JELLYFISH
