Been watching your videos for a while. I'm still amazed at how well designed wagon wheels are. Always a pleasure to see you going through the steps again. You make everything look so simple.
Amazing craftsmanship and skill. My great-grandmother told me once that when a wagon wheel became loose from the wood shrinking in the dry Eastern-Montana prairie, they would let it soak in the creek over night to swell the wood as a "quick fix" until they could get it to town to the blacksmith.
An artisan applying his trade, just brilliant to see you do your craft. If you enjoy your life as much as I enjoyed this video well we both have come a little closer to heaven on earth.
THE BOUNCE/RATTLE TEST IS HOW WE TEST BICYCLES FOR LOOSE/IMPROPER MAINTENANCE TOO. I FIND MUCH THAT IS OLDE ... IS NEVER IRRELEVANT. HISTORY IS A VERY FINE VINTAGE OF MEEKNESS. TY FOR TEACHING... SIR !!
Not a wasted movement AND he's ambidextrous . possibly the most skilled man I have ever seen.16:48 Tuning Up . I am addicted to these vids . I bet he loves his work . How many can say that?
Excellent video..several years ago I restored an old buggy for my wife but I didn’t stop there... I fixed up several horse drawn vehicles that I would find including sleighs and would sell them to people all over Rhode Island and Massachusetts. It was quite an enjoyable hobby and these videos of yours are sparking my interest in this craft once again..thank you!
I doubt I would ever have to repair a wagon but I have learned so much from your very efficient and practical techniques and choice of tools for a given task. My hat is off to you sir. Ash Mina, Texas.
It is great to see a fix like this and the only new item is the wire. A true testament to the original design of the wheels in the first place from a time when it wasn’t a throw away society.
I don't think you fully understand the talent you have that a lot of us wish we had that is in a dying art. What is a normal everyday shop tool to you, we would give our souls to take pictures and learn from you..a master of the trade. Thank you so much for sharing with us and you have inspired me to make a wagon one of these days. I can not thank you enough for teaching us the proper way to do this. You are a master teacher that is for sure..thank you again... ps... yes I could sit there and watch you work for hours on end.
Being an old lazy guy I would have done it the easy way. Soak them in a lake for a few days then make the horses run fast so they wouldn't shrink before I got where I was going. Another learning experiance. Thanks for sharing.
You make everything you do look so easy and that tells me that you are a true Master of your craft. Please keep up these great videos. They're the best thing on UA-cam.
so satisfying to watch a modest individual use years of experience to address subtle issues without much fanfare, just to brings it all together meet to the needs of the Customer. The badge of a True professional! Thanks for being a beacon of Quiet Craftsman.
At 72 I still like to learn new things. I build a variety of wood projects and have become an avid watcher of your channel. My hat is off to you sir your a true craftsman. Ken in Maine
As I watch you do welding, wood work, blacksmithing, sewing etc, not to mention your custom tooling, I am amazed at your talent and skill. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Again to You! I'm not sure you'd enjoy watching me rivet an airplane back together as much as I enjoy watching you keeping a craft active about which I know precious little!! :-) :-)
One of the books which I bought some 60 years ago, still have and still enjoy reading is 'The Wheelwright's Shop' by George Sturt which tells the life and times of the family business in Farnham U.K. It is therefore fascinating to watch your skilled hands create a thing of beauty from such humble materials. Thank you.
I am always amazed at your work. Learn so much about the history of automobiles by your work on these wagons. The generations before us evidently were quite advanced for their time. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge.
I hope that just because we have seen you do something before, that won't prevent you from posting certain videos in the future. I for one, could and would watch 20 different videos of you fitting a rubber tire to a wheel. Love the videos.
Mr. Engel. As a huge fan of the old ways and craftsmanship, I wanted to say that you are a true artisan. Always fascinating to see your work. God bless you always!
I learn so much from watching your videos! While I do not anticipate working on any wagons or wagon wheels (although I might being a Rancher) your methods, ideas and thought processes, translate so well into other projects I work on. Plus, I find your; manner, style, narration and work ethic very relaxing and soothing to watch. I really look forward to Friday evenings when I know a video of yours is going to drop. Thank you for that!
AND he has a sense of humor!! I would give it a try, 25yrs as "crank turner" (A manual machinist) in a nuclear job shop and working for my neighbor in his wood shop and working with my uncle in small engine repair. I do have mechanical ability, But in any craft I have done, you have to learn to crawl before you can walk. You Sir look like you could run a marathon!
WOW! Tightening those dry wheels was extremely interesting. Once again, a wonderful example of experience and craftsmanship that do not normally see. Thanks much.
An other great video. Thank you for sharing them with us and showing us your skill in the fields of metal and wood working, wheel wright, fabrication, sewing and many others.
A most informative and hence enjoyable video. Please be aware how much all your time and effort in recording editing and publishing is appreciated. I am ill and housebound mostly and find your manor and expertise most refreshing. Thank you again, Greg Horne. England.
Sir I note that you comment as to how easy this job. Well I'm sure that may well be the case with your outstanding skills - for us that sit and watch your wonderful videos - this task would be impossible. I am guessing that the device to hold and tension the wire would be of your own design and build. I don't see how setting the tyre could be done without it. I look forward to your videos before all others that I watch. Many thanks for another great presentation. Cheers

Solid video Mr. Engels just as solid as the carriage wheels you refurbished. Thank you for making them. All the best, Joe

You and Thomas Johnson are the two best presenters on UA-cam. It's like I'm in your shops watching you work.
You're welcome. Thank you for the opportunity for learning and enjoyment.

Watching you put together the Borax wagons has inspired my wife and I to build a wood hauling trailer. Have a great weekend.

I'm glad there's still people like you left in the world. Unfortunately there's not very many.
