The longtime coach at our local high school always emphasized the inverted power C position (backward arch of the back at the delivery of the shot…..something he was just probably taught in high school and as D3 college thrower in the early 80s and never updated…. He had a sprinkling of low 50s throwers over the years and one 60 footer. No telling what they could have thrown with your tip here. How much practical distance do you estimate a thrower loses with the old exaggerated back posture ?
That’s a good question. Well clearly would all depend on the athlete but when you think of it in terms of the wrong movement repeated day in and day out the athlete, never really learns to strike the shot put or pull the Discus with the full use of the legs. imo. When that chest goes up, it tends to result in the rotation of the lower body stopping. So Thrower never fully gets the legs connected at the finish. But I would say you could say at least 3 to 6 feet in the shot and 15 to 20 in The Discus. 👊. Thanks for commenting.
