People keep saying Magic Square’s materials feel flimsy but is this actually a problem? Isn’t nylon more durable than ABS in a transforming toy as it flexes rather than cracks? I also heard it allows for smaller hinges and mechanical parts due to these properties.
Late response, and it's true that the nylon they use is flexible, but plenty rigid enough. It just feels weird, especially once you start going to this sort of size. That said, the result is something that's borderline indestructible no matter how thin the pieces get. And I personally find that it's quite soothing when you tab MS's pieces together during transformation. It doesn't feel premium, it might even feel cheaper than CHUG in some regards. But that's really when we're talking about modes on their own. In transformations, it feels smooth and solid. Personally, I haven't had great experiences with New Age so far. The two figures I got from them have had joint tolerance issues that make them feel cheap in spite of their premium materials, and my experience with Magic Square has been more solid so far. But then I also like how ridiculous MS's transformations get, and transformation fun factor is what I prioritise. tl;dr the nylon feels weird compared to other figures, but they use it for a good engineering reason. That and it helps with the flat, toon-y aesthetic if that's what you care about. Me? I dunno, I got into MS first because I just thought their figures looked cute... and were cheaper than New Age!
I saw you sold this on Facebook before the video went public so I kind of had an idea of how things would shake out but it was a surprise that MS won the mini VS. It was nice to see that despite your personal feelings on the figure that you could take an objective approach. Out of curiosity if the figure did not have any defects do you think you would have kept him in your collection?
Thanks, glad you liked it. I would not have kept it even without the flaw, I don't like picking up a figure and feeling like it's cheap or flimsy. But a lot of people love it because of it's natural posing
I'm a big Skyfire/Jetfire fan too. I went with the SG version for Magic Square and the regular, G1 toy version, and SG version for NewAge. I still want to pick up that painted "Chameleion" version.
Great Job. Review was excellent. Any reason why you didn't do a seperate comparison video between the two? First time I've seen a comparison tacked on to a review for your vids. Keep it up. I look forward to your reviews.
Excellent video Sony. The Magic Square looks fine, but I think the NewAge kills it with this figure. I have the G1 toy deco on pre-order. Can't wait to get in hand.
The white not matching bothers my OCD. I'm not a big fan of their nylon material either. The fully painted NA version just looks better IMO. Both versions are great though, just showed how far legends scale figures have come. I'd worry about the unpainted white turning yellow after a decade or so on this figure.
I was surprised to hear the price you paid for Newage Firefox, it's much higher than here in Europe (+/- $120, this is including import fees), normally the prices in the US are a lot lower compared to here.
Another fail for Magic Square, I see. The nail in the coffin is that it's smaller than NewAge, when they're usually running a little bit larger. Materials is something that has never been a strength of Magic Square, as they continue to use that nylon plastic. It's awesome stuff for like major joints (which is what the Eagle MP52 mold KOs did with the knees and ankles), but it clearly doesn't jive well for entire figures. Only Magic Square figures I'm liking so far are Ironhide, Ratchet, Optimus 2.0 mold, Jazz, Hound, and the Stunticons (but the oversized KO). And yeah, triple digit LEGENDS SCALE figures is sheer madness. 3P Legends is doing exactly what 3P CHUG did back in the day: gettin' ridonkalonkalously overpriced for no good reason. (The Skyfires are in bloody Masterpiece money turf!! No way in Primus's left lugnut that Legends are worth MP money!!)
I think side-by-side, the NA slaughters the MS... But the MS's head, imo, looks way better. I don't like Newage's neutral expressions most of the time, with the dopey slightly open mouth.
So funny enough I’m actually the one who bought this off you on eBay so yeah very cool to know I’ve had a figure that was in a UA-cam video
Yep, I even mentioned that in the description 😂, glad you got it safely
🎉🎉🎉Good 👍👍👍

Thanks! Not sure why I didn't make a separate video now that you ask, seemed like a less popular one to do so I just made it short and sweet.
Where do you get the transforming tool?
Overall good figure.. Nice VS... didn't expect the winner. Great Review ✨️😃
Yeah me neither, I definitely prefer newage

Thanks, I agree, sticking with Newage, all 5 of them 😂
Its like New Age is the Fanstoys of Legends and Magic Square is like a legends Xtransbots.
Damn, dude. MS isn't that bad.
That's kind of how it feels to me
Love the quality and the to-the-pointness of your videos! I was actually gonna buy one but then you got to the price LMAO
Wow thanks so much. Lol, yeah if buying you will want to go with Chinese retail

Have Newage, waiting for MS to arrive any day now.

The US prices for Newage are out of control, but I didn't actually buy from here 🤣
@@TMReviews huh, that's interesting to hear.
In my opinion the MS looks better but the NA may be a better overall TF action figure.

Yeah, I hope they change materials, but for now I'm out on magic square

Looks like an easy pass for me. Newage all the way on this one.
