Same here, and I'm 36 y.o. already. I thought every school all around the world do this every graduation. I also realize every month there was a program or event for the students to participate in singing or jingle or dancing or cheerleading. Hehe I didn't realize all year I was surrounded by music like every day. Hehehe

Our mother is a retired elementary school teacher and she's really laughing remembering how they practiced their graduation song but it was like the Alma Mater Song of La Consolacion she's àlways talking. There's just a few number of students going to a private Catholic school before so imagine the pressure and the stress if you can't sing. She said the technique was just to open your mouth and sing without voice hahahaha. My sisters and I graduated in the same high school and we still sang the same.Alma Mater. But each of us has different graduation song of course.

Education is a big deal in the Philippines. Parents really work so hard to put their children to school. So songs like MaPa is perfect for this. We celebrate graduation not just for us making it, but also for our parents. Seeing their children graduate is a major milestone for families!

Every school has a music teacher directing the graduating students. My elementary graduation song was "Somewhere over the Rainbow". It was a choir. We were divided into 4 groups (soprano, alto, tenor, bass). We learned our different tunes/voices separately before we sing as a group. The good singers are encouraged to sing loudly. I guess to compensate for the out of tune ones, lol.

Graduation songs are so meaningful for Filipino students especially for high school (in my opinion) for some reasons
    - It's the only thank you gift that we can afford for our parents and guardians
    - Appreciation for our teachers
    - And motivation for our classmates, because not everyone can afford to go to college or universities, we will choose different courses ( some sticks together though). So it's kind of motivational song and goodbye song to our high school friends and classmates.
I still remember everyone crying. High school life is the best.

I have traveled the Philippines 30+ times and one of the many great things I have seen there is that teachers are very very much admired by the students parents and community members .The students call the teachers 'sir' or 'maam' and even if they see them outside of school they will run up and say hi to the teacher and the teacher will know them by name (even after they have left school)
They also have teachers day were the students parents give them little parties cakes etc etc it is beautiful to see the the bond with students and thier teachers there.
Pinoy love to learn they love to play they love to smile they love to dance they love to sing and I love the Philippines !

I remember when I was graduating back in the Philippines, I currently live in Cali, my high school teacher will go one by one to all her student and listen to their voices then identify if one is alto, Suprano and so on. I was soprano. She group each of us base on our levels. Then we will vote which song to sing on graduation and Christmas event. In Christmas event a lot of parents will come attend the event and listen to us. The music teacher is the conductor in the middle. In our practice, the teacher will literally stay close to you if you sound out of tune and it was so embarrassing as she will literally tell you and a lot of kids are looking at you. She also arrange the song. I thought it was pretty normal back then. I am 100% for sure, we are better sounding than that on the video since we sound like the lesser version of The Madrigal singers. And oh, this was in a private Christian school in Bagiou City.

We have end-of-school recognition ceremonies where they give medals and recognition certificates to the kids with remarkable grades...and back when I was a kid, we had to sing in every one of them, so that's every end of school year. The first time I learned and sang "WARRIOR IS A CHILD" and "GO THE DISTANCE" (the Regine Velasquez version, mind you) was when I was around 8-10 years old. Yes, it was one of the songs we KIDS had to sing during recognition day.

In my Grade School graduation before, we sang "Wind beneath my wings" as a tribute for our Parents' sacrifices and efforts for us. Then in our High School Graduation before, we sang "If we hold on together". Then we were all really emotional and teary eyes for our last days as classmates before moving to our own chosen careers and schools for College. All graduation songs are so memorable for the batch! I remember we have to practice for weeks just to practice that song. Our music teacher will teach us those harmonies, like I remember in elementary/grade school, our voices are assessed if we are soprano, tenor, etc. Then we are in one room each rehearsal. It's fun cuz even those who can't sing SHOULD sing and there is nothing wrong if you can't because we practice, practice, practice. It's a bond among schoolmates even tho you don't meet them personally, you'll laugh with them when voice became out of tune during rehearsals HAHAHAHA

Maybe this is also a factor why Filipinos are known for being happy people, despite the poverty/being a developing country. I’m depressed right now, I probably don’t belong to that happiest people but you know, we celebrate small wins, milestones... and this reactions + comment section reminds me of those happy and good old days which is very nice!

children give me goosebumps, adding to the sentimentality of the song.
everytime i hear that song it breaks me so. the song talks about a grown son or daughter telling his/her parent/parents to take it easy now and rest because it's his turn to take care of them now that he's grown and the parents are old and tired taking care of everything for a long time.

Usually graduation songs are done on sixth grade, fourth year of secondary school and senior year... and it's mostly to thank the faculty and tribute to parents. Oh and btw... back in my highschool years musical was pretty common actually... almost every school event there is musical competitions it's as if a must already.

We even have a Prom Song then. I remembered we sung JOURNEY by Leah Salonga.. In my college grad we sing our school hymn. We like to connect our milestone with a song.. its normal here...
