UPDATE 28th Feb 2013:
Since this video got some more attention lately, a few words about what you see here: Douglas is an orphaned Wombat who was taken care of at a school camp (where we have been WWOOFing) near Tallangatta in Victoria, Australia.
This video is 3 years old so he was just a little baby there! He was meant to be released into the wild someday but since it´s been a long while ago I lost touch with the family who runs the camp...but since I got so many comments and views and watched this video again, I´m really curious what Douglas´ life turned out to be!
He was the best experience I´ve ever had with an animal!
He once sat himself down in his own (very green) poo and had this nasty little stain on his butt...hahaha...he was just too funny!
I fucking miss that fella!!!

Thank you for coming back and posting the story. I knew this must be an orphan, just from the way he was trying to suckle. What a sweet experience to get to have. I hope they ended up keeping him. I'm not sure he'd survive for long if he kept going up to humans. We are notoriously untrustworthy.

1. This Wombat is in Australia and NOT Austria, the man is from Austria and at an Australian camp here in Victoria. Read the description.
2. We dont have rabies in Australia.
3. Wombats are not poisonous, just very bitey.
4. He is gentle because he is a baby, you wouldnt get an adult this gentle.
5. No, you cant have one for a pet. Non wild wombats are either in care for re release into the wild or they are in an animal park/zoo/sanctuary.
6. They are not bears or rats or dogs, they are native to Australia only and a marsupial, which is part of the Kangaroo, Koala, wallaby and possum family.
Lesson Over. :)
I'm still gonna get me on and hug and pet and squeeze it all day long and name it George.

Seriously though, why don't they breed them and sell them like dogs? Wouldn't that help them from becoming extinct?
And also heard they are extremely super dense, pure muscle and durable af. And can simply walk of getting hit by a car 😂

@@earms2949 Not usually - I raised a baby wombat after its mother was left dead in the middle of the road and the bastards who ran her over didn't check her pouch. The poor babies can take up to 10 days to die.

When Douglas flipped onto his back, it reminded me of my Chihuahua when she wants a belly rub!

In Australia they have awesome Koalas. Kangaroos. Wombats and many other amazing animals. Some Pretty dangerous and not so amazing! Here in my area in the US I just have squirrels, deer and somebody’s damn cat that pisses and shits in my yard!
Bears are interesting in that they are large ferocious predators but still cute at the same time, still its great to be able to go camping anywhere in Australia and not have to worry about those things invading your campsite. You just have to watch the bush path you walk.
