  • Was asked to do a deep screw shot with the headcam on, here it is, red level with the pink spot and cue ball on the baulk line. 1G snooker balls and 6 month old strachan no.10 cloth.
    I stood up after the shot so you can see how far my cue follows through, you can also watch the video in slow motion if you wish!

    That one was sweetly stick John. The best thing about your pov videos is not just the alignment of your cue but the alignment of your camera as well. We can clearly see where you are striking the white ball. If you get time then in future can you do a compilation of all the different kind shots like stun, stun run through, masse, side spin, etc. in POV. Hope you break into the circuit soon will be cheering from India.

    Very good sir! Most club players have no concept that you can make a SLOW backswing to play with power - even less so that it is MANDATORY you do so to have any chance at all of keeping the cue under control. Most club players want to FEEL the top speed of the shot as soon as possible - but a PRO only feels the top speed of the cue when it contacts the cue ball!

      The Snooker Gym thank you! Cueing is coming good now I’ve done a lot of work on it! Never used to be able to play this shot!

      Snooker Coaching At The Snooker Gym what.... I knew ages ago that you can have a slow backswing to create mega power on screwbacks and particularly slow... Lol it's only the idiots who aren't cue action focused who think what you've typed nic

      The cue is turning a lot to the right as you can see on the ash of the shaft. I never notice this with pro players or am i wrong?

    People always wanna say that was a hell of a stroke, even I was one of them. I am forming a different opinion to that now, it's not about stroking the cue ball, it is about being able to make your cue stick go forward an back perfectly straight, an how much power one actually has under a smooth controlled forward an back motion is just unreal. Lining shots up with center of cue ball to contact edge of ball was teaching me this. Slow, smooth, controlled is crazy controlled power.

    This is the head cam video I've wanted to see for a very long time. Finally someone did it. Thanks a lot, John! I really like the way you hit the ball, looks so effortless and relaxed, no tightness, no nothing.
    By the way, would you have any idea what could cause me to constanty miss the long balls to the left side, especially when I need to use more power? I've made a couple of shots like in the video but I just happened to get everything in line I suppose. It frustrates me quite a lot when you know the correct line and get the spin and speed right but then just weirdly hit across it. Might be a sighting issue? I know it's hard for you to tell but I would suggest any kind of guess. Have you had similar difficulties at any point? Nowadays though, you seem to hit the long balls as sweet as a nut.

      Thank you, a lot of hard work has gone into my cue action!
      I'd suggest it's probably a cueing error, check that you're not cueing around your chest and that your hand isn't bumping into your chest and pulling your cue off to the side.
      Long screw backs are not easy though, you've got to time the ball well. If you just hit the ball hard then it's extremely easy to pull the cue off line, you've got to hit the ball sweet and not hard. Practice your timing on shorter and mid range shots first before you try something the full length of the table, try to focus on smoothly accelerating the cue through the ball. You want your cue to be travelling fastest at the point of contact with the cue ball, not before.

    Hello John, thank you so much for doing this for me :) I noticed your fingers are pretty much laid flat - no bridge at all. Is this the same for all your shots or do you intentionally lower your bridge for screw back shots?. Does your cue tip touch the cloth after you strike the ball? Looks like it? Having the slow motion option helps.

    • @JohnTF
      @JohnTF  6 років тому +2

      readu100 you’re welcome! Normally my bridge wouldn’t be this low, I adjust it depending on the shot I’m playing to try and keep the cue level. Yes I think it does just brush the cloth at the end of follow through, that’s a good confirmation that I’ve hit the ball as low as possible. You see some players that are scared to hit that low but it’s important to be able to screw back with confidence.

    • @readu100
      @readu100 6 років тому

      John Foster Snooker thanks. It's really helpful to know. I'm screwing back further now that I have lowered my bridge, rather than just tilting the cue downward. I just have to practice more to get consistency. Sometimes I jump the ball.

    • @JohnTF
      @JohnTF  6 років тому +2

      readu100 practice is the key, make sure you’re cueing smoothly, it’s easy to scoop the ball and chip it off the table if you try to put too much power into the shot.
