- Backpack Hero Part 33 - my splashiest Tote build yet, this is everything I was hoping for and more! Probably need a break from Tote after this one, don't know how much better it can get.

In case it wasn't touched upon, Cracked Bottle adds increasing damage per carving, so the first carving adds 1 toss damage, second adds 2, third adds 3, and so on. The doubling is only for Gambler Toad.
For your 182 damage turn, you had 13 carvings. Following the above pattern, the Cracked Bottle would give you 13 * 14 / 2 = 91 damage, and Gambler Toad doubles that to 182.
For anyone else who isn't familiar, the equation 1+2+3+...+n where n is your last number can be represented as (n)(n+1) /2

By the way, if you trade a relic for ‘a rarer item of the same type’ you get an unique relic that lets you trade an item for another item of the same rarity and type every turn, nice video so far btw!!
I don’t think that relic works with carvings that are not placed in your backpack unfortunately
@@bluespellmaster8592yep, it doesn't. If you select anything in your hand, it just does nothing and wastes your chance. And you can't open up your carving deck when it offers the chance to swap as well.

oh wow, i never gave him relics because i tried it in the beta and it just gave you a legendary item, that's actually really useful though

Works well on the steamdeck since it has controller support and the cheapest steamdeck is 350 atm
For those who are confused about the bottle, it increases throw by 1 then 2 then 3 and so on for each object. So for n objects, it does n*(n+1)/2 damage. Then it gets multiplied by 2 if the bag is full, for a total of n*(n+1) damage on a full bag. This equation comes from the summation of a linear progression with step size of 1.

I love how the reference to hit indie platform fighter Rivals of Aether, notorious for every character being egregiously good in their own ways, ends up being probably the most broken item in Backpack Hero lmao.
Maybe they could balance out the deck spam by having the Heart spawn unique thorns instead of duplicates of itself? Then maybe those thorns are somehow removed from your deck after every combat.
What's the reference? I know the game, just can't see it rn
@@thatoneguy4273 It’s the bulb on the tail of Sylvanos! Pretty sure they’re also called the Heart of the Forest in game.
The bulb duplicating itself across the row is a reference to Sylv’s Down Special, which turns all the grass they plant on stage into spiking thorns.
It’s not the only Rivals reference either-
There’s Clairen’s Plasma Sword, the Moth Bomb is a weapon used by Mollo, and I’m pretty sure the Leaf Katars might be from Maypul?

But the 66 was also doubled, for a total of 132.
Apparently it the Flask sets the damage formula be the "nth Triangle Number" of items, rather then the count of items.
Which is a ludicrous buff as the backpack gets bigger.

i think the heart of the forest could maybe be re-balanced by making it so the copies it generates have ethereal or something, and making sure the 'real' one isn't destroyed on use
I now have all characters unlocked..Realized I could have gotten Tote a long time ago, but now I have them all. I have no more bottleneck on supplies, just things from the dungeon to unlock things.
Definitely been kinda addicted since getting the game.

fun fact: just the required progression unlocks cost over 840 treasure. You're 100% not set for ever, you're set for the next few trips back from the dungeon. Later you'll unlock the bank where you can choose to sell everything for only treasure (but more of it than you'd get at the market) and treasure is STILL the bottleneck after selling pretty much exclusively there - like I had 10k food and building mats but double digit treasure for a while.

imo, Crusade should be the next quest you do. It's probably the most fun I've had in this game
This was peak Aliensrock content. Not only did he just happen to create a cheese build, but the results of the build for the story in town quests resulted in even more cheese!

You can put the honey hazard on blank spaces to skip the anchor after combat. Technically it would help fill up your backpack with this specific set up, for future reference!
Can reorganize and toss any hazard. Honey is especially funny as it can be exploited to hold heavy and light items in place. A clock hand is stuck in place for 2 combat.

You should try a regular run with tote, and grab the item set from Matthew. I think you will find it very interesting... (Hopefully he should give you a mossy mace)
I'm so jealous. I grinded so many runs just to max out research, then you roll up with a heart of the forest run and break the economy in one run
Hey tyler, don't know if I missed you, but i figured out that brutal bombstone works on moth bomb, and its pretty cracked. I don't normal bombstone would let it respawn though
So, instead of each carving dealing 1 damage (1+1+1+... n times over), it deals damage based on the number of carvings you have, dealing (1+2+3+...+n) damage. This means that for "n" items in your backpack, you will deal the triangular number for n as damage- at 21:08, you have 13 items, and triangular(13) = 91, plus your backpack is full which doubles that value to 182.
still no mayor quests? you HAVE to do that to unlock more characters and stuff sadly

Though, because I'm playing the switch version, I don't have access to the temple (or any other treasure generating buildings that might exist besides the mushroom, IDK if there are any others) so in the amount of runs it took to complete most of the item-type research requirements, I also passively generated enough food and building materials, and all I needed after that was treasure.
Also after CR8 there's a thing that costs 500 treasure to build.

tip: if you don't want to get the extra backpack space when you level up you can choose to save it for later when you need it just move to an empty space and level up.

For every Tote is trash argument is a broken combo like this appearing. Some pretty good rng (heart of forest), consistent defense picks and building a pack to take advantage of long tetris chains won out.

Sorry for asking but what is the difference between a hazard and a curse?

Hazards would be something like the honey bee enemies produce or the slime snail enemies can produce. They're temporary and go away after the end of a battle. They're usually cleared using an energy.
Curses on the other hand are actual items and if you don't pick them up in your backpack, they will replace an item in the after battle rewards. This stacks with the number of curses you have. They are persistent and have some sort of downside to having them. Unlike regular items, curses cannot be sold unless they are in your backpack and you talk to the healer and have your curses removed. But they can be given to Parcel if they're in your backpack.
A hazard basically means you get forced to put it into your backpack and have to use Energy to get rid of it (Honey means you can't move stuff, slime fills the backpack up and many others)
A curse comes from items themselves (used to work like hazards a couple patches ago) and the items have downsides whenever you have any with you (always changing an item in the shop/chests to be cursed, take damage when using the item, the item itself being large, meaning you have less backpack spaces).
Hazards are quick to get rid of, curses require either a healer or items that have a cleansing effect on them.
Curses are sticky.
@@Shirae you can also just destroy curses or use a die to reroll them when theyre in your combat rewards to make them go away permanently
