    using an old towel in the middle instead of batting...brilliant! ✂🧵👩

    Very clever how your half inch of fabric became the seam allowance without sewing on the towel.

      Yes... I was trying to avoid getting the towel in the seams. Makes it lie flatter and smoother 😉

    Another great idea. I have been giving all my used dish towels to my husband to use for rags. Not anymore. I will keep them and make these potholders. I am always in my kitchen cooking and baking. What an idea. Thank you so much. Sandra B.

    Talk about waste not, want not! Using an old towel & fabric scraps that might otherwise have gone into the trash bin, and getting a lovely, useful item at the end of it. I gotta try this one for sure! Many thanks for posting such a nice tutorial.

    Great idea for potholders--not stiff like using other products in middle.

    Nice tutorial. I like how you left the 1/2". It gave it a flatter look instead of the bulky look. I have to try it. Thanks for sharing.

    I love your videos because there isn't too much measuring. Strips of fabric can be different widths. I get so hung up watching quilting videos that I'm terrified of trying something in case it is wrong. There is no wrong with what you show us. I don't need to overthink this anymore. I can just give it a try. Thank you so much.

      I know exactly how you feel. I have actually started crumb piecing and making things - placemats, pot holders, a dresser scarf, cloth napkins and more to come of everything already done. Beth Shibley is my inspiration and mentor even though she doesn’t know it. She takes the fear out of quilting, replaces it with confidence.

    Adding an additional piece of towering to the backing would help to provide more protection from heat.

    So -- if you don't have but two towels, but some insulbright, it could be cut 8 inches square and used in the same fashion. Thank you. Stay safe. Love getting ideas from you.

    cute, cheerful, fun. because of the absorbency & wicking, i'm concerned about the possibility of scalding, so i'd use these as hot pads on the table. relaxing tutorial, thank you !

    Wouldnt you want to do a couple of rows of quilting (by machine) diagonal corners to corners or rows of wavy stitching....just to secure the sandwich .... and keep from getting lumps when they get wet ?

    Wouldn't you want to use some batting or Insulbrite in the middle? Fabric and a piece of towel just don't seem like much protection from the heat. That IS a POTholder, right?

    • @bethshibleyquilts
      @bethshibleyquilts  2 роки тому +1

    Love your video! My stepmother who raised me passed this past April and I kept her quilts and scraps of fabric. I’m hoping to make all of the siblings potholders out of her old material. If I use a preexisting quilt in bad shape do I just leave out the towel? Just cut the quilt and then scraps on the other side?

    • @bethshibleyquilts
      @bethshibleyquilts  9 місяців тому

      It depends on how thick the quilt is. Sorry for your loss.

  • @barbmckinlay3400
    @barbmckinlay3400 3 роки тому +2

    If you add insulbrite does that make it too thick to flip inside-out?

    • @bethshibleyquilts
      @bethshibleyquilts  3 роки тому +2

      I have not tried insulbrite with this method. I would think it would work....but I'm not sure.😉 I would be curious to know.

    • @margaretduffy5199

      I've found towelling works better than insulbrite to protect from the heat. Even better is two layers of towel.

  • @EliseG79

    • @bethshibleyquilts
      @bethshibleyquilts  3 роки тому +3

      After putting right sides together I sewed around leaving an opening. Then I turned it right side out before stitching around. I want the raw edges inside. 👌Hope that helps.

    Beautiful pit holders! I thought that we had to use Insubrite or similar to keep heat from going through- so is that not necessary?

    • @bethshibleyquilts
      @bethshibleyquilts  Рік тому +2

      IT’s a personal preference. I figured that potholders were made and used successfully before the invention of insulbright 😉
