  • Identifying your personal values is the foundation for making future decisions. In this episode, we discuss the profound ways in which personal values impact financial decision-making and share concrete steps to identify both your strategic and means objectives. Ben candidly shares his own objectives and expands on the other considerations involved in making major decisions. We then jump to the less abstract topic of 2022 returns, providing a thorough overview of the tilts and their consequences, followed by a brief summary of an early episode with Shane Parrish. In the latter half of this episode, we are joined by Zoobean co-founder and CEO Felix Lloyd to talk about Beanstack, the tech platform for reading, and Readwise co-founder Daniel Doyon. We also tackle the slightly left-field topic of marketing from a behavioural science standpoint through the lens of Nancy Harhut’s tellingly-titled book, Using Behavioral Science in Marketing. Tune in for upcoming developments in the Rational Reminder community, and to discover how to make financial decisions that align with who you are and who you want to become!

Is that thoughtful customer Harley F? If not, it sure sounds like something he would say. Anyway, you guys were almost embarrassed to shout out your company, let me do it for you: I was a customer of PWL for a few years and have nothing but great things to say about the team, thoughtful, transparent and smart wealth planning even in the height of FAANG craziness, much appreciated.

I just had to comment on the first part. I can't wait to start this exercise tonight. Best time spent on UA-cam by a long shot.

Personally, I think many decisions come down to knowing or not knowing the "rules" in a specific scenario. To learn about these "rules", for myself anyway, is very important for making the proper choices.

I just copy and paste into Notes when I highlight in my reading app, I can also add my thoughts and reflection with the note on that particular copied note. Less layer and one central place. You can also categorize notes from each book depends on the topics.

Thank you for this wonderful podcast. Thanks, Ben, for sharing your values.
One question: Will we have book recommendations for the 23 in 23 challenge?

Was something changed on the microphones or the audio production? I feel there to be more background (electronic/digital) noise than previously
    Episode was nice.
Hyped for the next one. Who I want to be and what my values are, should be the core of investing. I had to go that journey and still am on it before really making the long-term decision

    Thanks for the great content.

Unfortunately this is not currently published anywhere. It will be part of a paper that we are currently working on though.

Where will that paper be published on?
Great podcast 👍 although we should also talk about not over complicating every single decision that we make, but I do agree most of us rarely analyze all the consequences of our decision and how we will feel once we get there, some of my most optimistic decisions end up backfiring big time.

If you can’t even recall the highlighted points of the book you read two weeks ago, can you really say you have read the book?
