Can't imagine life without a dane. My current boy turns 9 in November and I have been so blessed to have had him for so long. They are definitely a heart break breed but so worth the joy, love, laughs, and hair.
5 reasons: 1. Beautiful- quintessential dogs 2. Protective - bark, posture and size 3 Affectionate. Always with you And they are so big they're like another person 4. Goofs. Their size and long legs plus surprisingly gentle souls, they are just kinda goofy. 5. Attention. They attract attention and with that, you meet SO many people. I've never gone on a walk without someone commenting on Juno or actually stopping to have a conversation. They change your life in big big ways.
I've had 3 my whole life and probably will never own another bread. One of my girls Athena is 14 years old right now and as happy as she can be. They bring so much joy to life.
I have a Great Dane and her name is Xena and she is 6 years old. Beautiful brown eyes like me , born in the month of September like me , and she has black fur. And we both love our relaxing piano music . the piano music calms us down to the point of falling asleep. I really love my dog.
I love Great Danes. Both of mine had very strong prey drives and were aggressive towards other male dogs. They are fearless, loving, and great guard dogs. I will have them for the rest of my life.
I've had a Great Dane for 3 1/2 years as a service animal. He did college with me with no problems. He is amazing! I will never be without one of these wonderful companions again if it is in my power!
Did you get your Dane professionally trained for service dog? I'm aiming towards basically the same thing I just don't know if I want them to be service dogs or therapy dogs even though they are kinda close
@@zacherynagy8445 Unfortunately, therapy dogs are not categorized as protected by the 1993 Americans with Disabilities Act, only Service Animals. THERE IS NOBODY WHO DETERMINES THIS BUT YOU. If the animal provides a SERVICE for you, and can do so IN PUBLIC, it is a service animal by default. Mine is from an agency, which I recommend, but you can train your own if you like. You CAN get them ADA certified, but anyone telling you you have to do this is a liar or doesn't know what they are talking about. A farmer who brings a dog to market is by DEFAULT bringing their service animal. If he says "it's a therapy animal", they lose the right to public access. It must be a service animal in your eyes, and within the dog, to be legit. I hope that answers your question.
Also, the only questions people can legally demand of you (such as a hotel or store owner) are: "Is that a service animal" and "What are they trained to do". If they demand paperwork, show them the Americans with Disabilities Act then tell them to educate themselves before they aggravate another customer. I show my card, sometimes to avoid conflict, but only because my agency gives us one. A "card" or "paperwork" is not required, nor does it prove anything, as there is no (currently) authoritatively legitimizing agency that provides such paperwork over any other.
I have a 10 months old blue and she is being trained, by me, as my service/emotional support animal. She is perfect because she senses when I am a bit stressed (social anxiety disorder) and offers me hugs and distraction (without training). I really do recommend a Dane if someone can handle them well. I do have a second, Labradane, dog who helps with the exercise (play) aspect. Really wonderful and loving pets.
Read the Law for Service dogs. A companion dog is only recognized as a Pet, which does not carry the legal protection or benefits of the law. The dogs that are legal, have to pass a test for extra training abilities. You can train the dog yourself but has to have all the trained components as a working dog, not considered a pet. You also need a physicians prescription to have a dog. If your dog does not comply with the regulations, you cannot insure him, fly in a aircraft, allowed in stores and god forbid should he get into a fight and injure a person or animal, he will be destroyed and you will have broken the law and have to pay back restitution. So after you are through training him, I would suggest you go to a professional support dog to certify he IS trained as a Support Dog. This will protect the both of you legally. Good luck with your support dog and God bless!
Because of my small house I've had to let them go. I still believe there are dogs--- and there are Danes. However, you can keep the floppy faced current version.
Just adopted a GD puppy. Always have had Boston Terriers, so quite a change. I’m excited but intimidated at same time. Thank you so much for your videos. Very helpful.
Danes are wonderful, but not perfect for everybody. I never met a Dane i didn't like, and I thoroughly enjoy interacting with my friends' Danes, but It's nice to be able to borrow one without taking up the payments. I have had Norwegian Elkhounds for almost forty years, a more suitable size for my home and my compact car and my feeding budget, but I've seen some monumental vet bills, too. An Elkhound is also a wonderful companion for the all-day hikes and more-than-moderately strenuous lifestyle of an active family. Not a good choice for a first dog, stubborn at times, but mine have always managed to train me fairly effectively.
My Lodewyk will be 8 years old in July. He had a very active life, because he had Jack Russel mates. How much exercise should he get, and what kind of exercise?
On # 5, you stated that they bond very closly with their family members. We have an opportunity to get a 3-year old purebred European Great Dane. The owner is looking to rehouse him since she has three small children. They have had him since he was 8 weeks old. We currently have no children (I am 60 and my wife is 70) and no additional pets. Would he do well with us? How well will he "bond" with a new family? Best
I've had two used adult great danes... I miss them both.. they are the ultimate dog... smart and devious...a challenge.. one killed a ground hog on my property..at 186 pounds I did not like a killing machine so I tried to bring him to the scene of the crime... he knew he did something wrong and would not go back to the scene of the crime.. when I jogged with him.. if he saw another dog.. it was let me at em..... but if there were two dogs... he would not engage two...
I know it's old, but if someone else has the problem, Danes only respond well to gentle, FIRM masters. They are not Maltese. You won't get that great temperament from a Dane that's been spoiled or harshly treated.
I'm looking for the collar and leash in this video and can't find it on your website. The link in the description doesn't work. I hope you still offer this. Please let me know where I can find it.
Well european great danes are the largest. American great danes are usually only 115 to 135lbs big ones maybe 160lbs. But European danes can weigh over 200lbs.
Thanks for watching! Sadly we're unable to give recommendations on breeders but we do have a video on one of our sister channels looking at what you should consider when choosing a breeder: ua-cam.com/video/7sMNmDwtfOM/v-deo.html
Hi I am new here and I'm from Philippines, I really wan't a Dog like great dane but right now I'm still saving money to buy one. You think great dane is good for not experienced owner?
Please make a video on the best trained for a purpose, Support/assistance dogs in the German Family of dogs. I need to get a young dog to help me with physical support and balance, PTSD, and have a bad back. He also would have to be strong enough to assist me out of a chair and I am 68 yrs old and live by myself, personal protection dog. What should I choose? I'm not a first owner of these types of dogs. Only familiar with Queensland Blue Healers, Doberman and German Shepherds, which I have had all my life. Danes are too big and like GSD's, shed too much. Am looking at a euro bred Boxer atm, I just can't decide. I'm 5'11" and 150 lbs and need more than a companion dog, who in the USA are considered just pets and not legally able to frequent businesses, fly on board a aircraft, they are not considered as legally licensed, Trained Service Dogs. Thank you!

They are what humans should strive to be.
Danes are the best. We have 2, rescued the first and bought the second. They're an addictive breed. Absolutely love them.
Same. That tail is a Godzilla-like weapon though..destroyer of offices & kitchens. 😂
My great dane/mastiff is a rescue...I'm 64 yrs old and he is a fabulous addition to my life! Couldn't imagine life without him! Love your channel

A Great Dane was my first breed of choice. I will always have a Dane.
My Dane turns 5 in a week. He’s my soulmate dog, I can’t imagine ever having another. It would never be the same.
How big is he/she I’m curious 😅

We have two Danes, they’re the best 🥰
YESS. My family has already had two Great Danes, if one goes we get another one. They are so gental because, gental giant is their nickname.
They’re great for women. Creeps will think twice about messing with you if you have a massive dog next to you.
Great Danes are better for their gentleness with kids and small pets, kind nature, sometimes playfulness
Danes are awesome. They’re marshmallows for the most part…but they scare the bejesus out of anyone that doesn’t understand their sounds.
Love the channel i just got my first great dane .Hes 7 months old and im so attached love the breed
That is awesome!
What a great dog. I just wish they lived forever... Romulus, I miss you buddy!!
I have a blue Great Dane girl. And she truly is the best dog I’ve ever known. I love her so so much
We have a Dane at this time. It's true what they say, "you can't just have one Great Dane". We are picking our new puppy next week!
My boyfriend said I can get a great dane once we move into our new house I can't wait😍😍🥰🥰🥰
Make sure you have a large bed
@@John_Stabeezi we have a queen size u think thats big enough🤣😭
Yup Greatdanes are the best!!!🐾😇
Our journey is just starting and will probably be in full swing this summer! I already subscribed ❤
I am considering this breed when I move out so I thought I would do some research it is just one of the large breeds I am considering.
We have two black girls, a two year old and a five year old. Love them so much they are so cute.

My blue female was 210lbs, sadly I lost her today.
Best dog ever

Snuggles are definitely the number one answer. My girlfriend's great dane is a giant cuddle monster.
2:10 you’re welcome
Just wondering if this beautiful breed do well as dog scootering or dryland mushing please?
Many thanks

My experience with Danes, they are mostly low energy and my dane doesn't always enjoy long walks for more than 30 min
Agreed. My boy will do 30mins then wants to go home for a rest. 😂
However, he does do two walks a day and is happy with that.
Any tips on teach to stay with food on nose and the dog not letting it fall off. She is pretty good with leaving food i put on her paws
Where do you get a great dane to buy
1st reason to get a great dane: it is a giant breed. Not the best for a small apartment. Remain playful. - you are not making any sense.
Glad I’m not the only one who noticed
Actually they can be great in apartments! Just want to look for breeders that breed with temperaments in mind
Great video, tried clicking your Odin collar link and it 404’d.
Het Olivia, thanks for watching! You can find all our current stock over on our website: www.fenrircanineleaders.com
I keep forgetting about their tails because I have a rottie that was born without one
Our Dane is about to turn 2 years old we are having issues with obedience, is 2 yrs too old for training?
You can train a dog at any age it's just being persistent
Hello, just wondering what is the average amount of time it take for a Great Dane to become full size?
2 years.
3 years

No. Danes are house pets.
