  • Hello :)
This is the transcription I did of the Elton John song "Daniel' ". This comes from his 1973 album "Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player". Dee Murray was the bass player on this track.
This transcription can be found at www.muzento.com under Advanced - Learning Songs subject.
Like the song Philadelphia Freedom, I transcribed this 13 years ago and thought I would be able to just read the old transcription and make a new video...nope. Again, as I started practicing it, I started to hear things that I'd missed before. Go figure :)
If you've picked up this transcription from me in the past and would like the updated version, just send me a message and some proof and I'll be more than happy to send you the updated version :)
This one of my most favorite Dee Murray bass lines. He was such a gifted a bass player/musician. This bass line is functional but also very creative, rhythmic and just kind of floats on top while still maintaining the bottom. A simply wonderful bass line!
I hope you like it :)
Don't forget to like and subscribe and thanks for watching :)

Dee Murray, a Bass hero when I first started playing Bass as a kid ( actually, even before I first got a Bass!). The early Elton John/Bernie Taupin tunes with that band were so tasty. I still go back to those tunes to practice solo , thinking I know them pretty good....then you post this and show what I missed... Dee Murray was so subtle with his lines. But rocked out when necessary. It's what Bass players do, serve the Song without ego. Thank you for sharing and keeping the history... Appreciate!

Not sure I agree with this, many local bands I have played in will just walk all over the bass player if not put in check by me, interesting how when a song is played correctly and well how it really drives the song and makes a big difference, but when trying to explain to the band leader, its just "shut up and play bass". The better/best bands know, however, how important a good bass player is. You have to have some ego to serve the song on the bass, all the best players KNOW they are good and make a big difference!

@@oldestgamerI hear you. Patience is the main key in being a Bass player, in spite of the ego-tripping most guitar players and singers pull. The most truly-talented understand it's a team sport. Yeah, been thru that, too.

Hey Terry, thanks for the comment. I totally agree the Dee was subtle and yet knew when to rock it and be a little more busy. I think it comes from having the attitude of serving the song and not yourself. Working with top tier musicians that know how to give each other space always help too ;) Thanks and happy holidays :)

A team sport...absolutely. Server the song first and good things will follow...and people will want to play with you! Thanks for the comment.
