    I love Native american flutes. If they had just a slightly wider range, they'd probably be my favorite flutes.

    I forgot to thank you Stephanie, for the Wolf Claw link. I visited Dave's site, and was really impressed with the craftsmanship, quality, and the very affordable prices of his flutes! Now I've got more to add to my want list! Thanks, again!

      @@flutetastic-NC True! I just started playing the NAF about a year ago and now have three; all High Spirits made. Never played any instrument before and love how easy they are to play. I just stepped up big-time based on Stephanie's videos to an MK Pro Low D whistle. We'll see how it goes!

      @@dannybazzell3586 Sorry for the late reply. We're in the midst of getting my wife ready for major surgery! Congrats on the MK Pro whistle. All the whistles I own are the very inexpensive Clarke whistles! My flute of choice is the NAF, followed by the whistle. Most of my flutes are High Spirit flutes (eight or nine, I think) followed by a few other various makers. As you mentioned, they're very easy to play, but very beautiful & versatile at the same time 😊

    You capturer the music very well, great job. All the native Americans flute music has that deep mournful sound. It seem to mirror their history. My ancestors are Scotch and Irish and came to America for religion freedom in the 17 century. My ancestors brought land from the natives tribes, but were struck by their sad and mournful flute music.

    Hi Cutiepie, I notice that you are using a pipers grip on the flute. Normally a NASF uses the pads of the fingers for a smother play ( less clicking of the fingers hitting the keys) your improv was very nice. Hope to hear more from you.

    • @CutiepieTinWhistle
      @CutiepieTinWhistle  4 роки тому

      Unfortunately my hands are too small to reach the holes on the bottom half of the low C, so I don't have much choice but to sue the piper's grip if I want to play it :)

    At 1:24, you inserted a photo of a 5-hole NAF and yours clearly seems to have six. It would be great if, after becoming more familiar with the instrument, you could post a follow up video with some updated information on it!

    • @CutiepieTinWhistle
      @CutiepieTinWhistle  4 роки тому +2

      The build and structure of the 5 and 6 holes flutes are the same, which was mainly what the image was demonstrating 😊. Have a look at flutopedia though (and perhaps the wolfclaw website), there is lots of info about Native American flutes on flutopedia, with multiple different holes. It might help you decide which would be suitable for you 😊

    Hi cutie pie! Love your videos Thank you so much. I play tin whistle in d. I also play a Native American flute in f#sharp. I've been thinking about getting a low whistle and i think you said you don't recommend someone going straight to a low d because it's harder. Do you think it would be difficult for me to transition to a Low d being that I can handle the f-sharp NAF? (I also played tenor sax when I was younger). If you do think so, do you think Low d is the way to go? Is there a particular key that you think sounds really cool/Maybe one that you were able to play some really cool songs with? Thank you!

    What is your favorite / the best affordable low D whistle? I would like a comfortable quality low D but since I haven't owned or played one I'd rather wait a little while to spend $250 + on a pro one.

    • @CutiepieTinWhistle
      @CutiepieTinWhistle  4 роки тому

      It really depends on what sound you like. Whether you prefer the sound of metal or plastic whistles...Cheaper low whistles I've tried have all been plastic whistles.
