I suppose when all Windows OEMs stop doing it (they have 91% of the market), Apple will! But MS, Samsung, Dell (new XPS 2024), etc., all start at 8GB but those OEMs do not provide those for reviews so we never see that it is exactly the same in Windows-land! Of course, it is a legit business model as it means OEMs can discount these during the life-cycle and attract buyers with lower budgets.

I got the base model last week but with 16GB of RAM and a 1TB hard drive from my local Apple Store. However, it drove me nuts that it's still not a "Pro" machine with the lack of the Pro chip. I returned it yesterday and got a space black 1TB MBP and am glad I did.

Keep the good work Jerry. I Think you have your place in the tech reviewer universe. You bring nuance and answers to deeper questions than the usual youtuber's "product review". You made me buy an iphone 15 pro instead of the pro max and i'm glad I did it, and now I cant use a phone unless there is a mat screen protector on it. Next step would be to have a visual identity / visual cue to differientiate yourself from the mass. I can easily spot a thumbnail from LTT, Mathew Monitz, MKBHD and hardware canucks from a search, but when I look for you, I have to comb everything one by one.

After some research, I bought a refurbished M1 14” Macbook Pro with 16g memory and 1tb SSD with less than $1200. Have you reached out to other tech reviewers to ask them to test your Final Cut Pro export on their base M3 MacBook Pro (because they all have them)? Ever since I watched your earlier video on this issue I wondered if this was a hardware problem with your actual computer rather than the model itself. I'm basing this on the fact that all of the reviews since Apple Silicon computers were originally released seem to say that the base models (M1, M2 and now M3) will get the job done, just (quite) slowly - except yours. I still think it might be a hardware fault with your computer.

Thanks for your this content. 👍🏾
Isn’t one key reason for the speed difference that since M1 the SSD’s are slower and so swap memory is slower? I think one experiment on a key channel showed the 512GB drives completed work a lot faster than the base model due to the faster double NAND drives (apologies if I got the technical saying wrong).

Many people only know Best Buy and Apple stores. They don’t know about PC Richard and Son, B&H, Micro Center, Mac Connection, Insight Enterprises, and CDW.
If they know them, they won’t buy an 8GB Ram MacBook Pro because those seller offer 16GB Ram MacBook Pro at the same or even cheaper price than the 8GB Ram version sold in Best Buy and Apple stores.

Then there is no miniLED, lower max brightness, worse speakers, less IO, slower RAM, no encoders/decoders on M1, a much better neural engine on M3, better graphics on M3, etc. I have seen the base M3 MB Pro 14 at £200 off.

Im better off using an M2 Max thats speccd out than an M3...Been looking at the reviews and too amny ppl have returned them, alot of ppl claim overkill with power but many have had issues with temporary freezing and while the M3 is theoretically the more powerful unit the M2s are doing almost the same damn thing without any of the issues M3 faces and well the M1....Hmmmm still performing very close for a better price point and the diminishing of the M3 Memory Bandwidth is beyond my understanding, also the difference in cores for performance and efficiency rubs me the wrong way...Im a dj that uses stems and many other editing apps so Id rather have a unit thats powerful to last me at lesst 5years. Anywhere from 32 GB RAM up for me and Im a TB storage dude,I think the Tech world should have Apple face court for selling a Pro machine with 8Gb Ram and 256 SSD,thats so antique and childish in 2024,why prolong the bottlenecking of the system by small ram and small storage space the average college student will blow thru that ram in a month or two doing certain projects and swap wont help as it erodes the SSD faster than normal so yeah Apple should reconsider or theyre gonna have some filled warehouses. Everyone is starting to avoid M3 and run back to M2 and M1 respectively and thats facts right there. The phenominal difference from Intel to Silicon is already overkill for some people but the M3 doesnt feel like an upgrade it feels like it belongs somewhere between the Intel and M1 and not a upgrade from M2 in some aspects

In the UK, the Surface Pro 9 starts with 8GB, as did the Galaxy Book 3 Pro, all 2023 releases. Of course, no YT reviewer ever uses them as they would risk any negativity, losing them sponsorship, affiliated rewards and early access. So, people like you never see that Apple is the same; it is simply that Apple does not have such a close relationship with YT creators. So creators have to buy their own Macs and make money from views, negative ones obviously being more rewarding.
