Hardest working man on utube - unmatched craftsmanship - milling your own beams - pegging the joints solid rock construction that will last 100 years amazing a true off grid 50,000 subscribers any day - cheering you on!
Thank you so much for the kind words! I agree with you… He truly is the hardest working man on YT. I am glad someone else sees it. Hope you are well, my friend!
Almost in the dry before spring rains. One person timber frame operation rules. Two hands just ain't enough. Less handled timbers makes back feel better. Keep coffee hot and battery powered tools charged.
Ha, seeing the Kabota tractor had me scratching my head - what happened to the TYM. But then I saw it was from you house framing and not the shop. The shop framing really looks great!
Unbelievable. Just half the trips (or even less) up and down the ladder in ONE day would have done me in. The amount of labor you do alone is mind blowing. You make it look easy but there's so much to it and none of it is really easy and you do it by yourself! SMH Just wow. #SMO #SmokyMountainOutpost #Smoky #Dolly #HardWorkingMan #WhatWeDoin'
I'm glad you're wearing a safety harness working that high up. Since you work around/with sharp edged tools a lot consider two other pieces of safety equipment to always carry: a tourniquet and a four inch pressure bandage. Yes, I know you've been trained as an EMP, yet a lot of us, especially those who carry protection devices, don't carry first aid devices as we should. I would be loathe to hear from other channels one day how you accidently cut yourself working around the homestead and bled out. If you're already carrying 'things' please disregard this post. God Bless
Thanks chuck! Always helpful and also for everyone reading through comments as well. First Aid is a lifesaver. We have a big bag nearby to grab with all necessities and necessary equipment for such events.
It’s called Australian Timber Oil (Natural Finish), by a company called Cabot. We use several of their products. The natural finish does have a tint to it
Hey terry, thanks for checking in! We use many different sites, but our main one is Epidemic Sound at the moment. You do need to pay for a license subscription fee, but it definitely helps to have music to choose from that you won’t get in trouble with.
Because I don’t think it’s needed. I have seen others do it and it’s cool, but I tend to do things how I see them in my head. The joint at the peak is well enough to hold any lateral movement which in turn holds the outside wall in place. I also don’t notch the beam for floor joists. I use a joist plate to rest them on and blocking between them. I have adopted different things I like and incorporate them into the build.
Hey welcome! Thanks for stopping in. Hope you enjoy. It’s called Australian Timber Oil. From a company called “Cabot”. We use the Natural finish. Although it says Natural, it does have that amber tint to it. They also have other finishes as well. We have also used a Clear Protector from the same company. Great stuff
No problemo! Just happened to see it come through. Glad we could help We also have another channel called Outpost Review as well. It’s a little deeper with answering questions and such
I’m wondering what the taller columns only on one end will be in your design? I am enjoying your fine carpentry and thank you for documenting the build. Kind regards, Pete. Australia.
I just talked about it and the measurements on our other behind the scene channel “Outpost Review” on Thursday’s, same time. Check that out, you may like it
I understand the process is frustrating to some. I’m sorry for that. We try to video everything we did for the week and then edit it to be as interesting as possible. We are still continuing to try and improve our entertainment. Do you have any suggestions that we could think about implementing to help improve and be more accommodating to your liking?

Good afternoon
Hey Terrance!
After you burn wood do you sand before you apply timber oil? It looks like the black soot is gone when your putting on oil.
No I do not sand. It get mixed in what little there is. If I did it heavily I probably would
Love your videos. Are you a retired lineman?
Retired cable repairman and retired Medic. Someday retired off grid homesteader, lol
hardest beautiful work ❤️ But your want plays with Ball
Thank you, Gaetan!
Awesome work! What kind of oil are you using on your wood after you torch wood? Beautiful work. ♥️
It’s called Australian Timber Oil (Natural Finish), by a company called Cabot. We use several of their products.
The natural finish does have a tint to it
I’m liking the timber frame build. I’m a new creator on UA-cam. Can you tell me where you get your music?

👍🏴
Hey Kevin!
How long can you cut those poplar logs?
Right now we can only do 16ft logs.
Also why did you not notch the rafters on the plate?
Because I don’t think it’s needed. I have seen others do it and it’s cool, but I tend to do things how I see them in my head. The joint at the peak is well enough to hold any lateral movement which in turn holds the outside wall in place. I also don’t notch the beam for floor joists. New to your channel. Looks awesome! what are you rolling on after you burn the wood if I may ask. I’m sure you’ve answered this a thousand times. 😅

Wow thank you for answering so quickly. Going back to the beginning to see everything 👍

The burn look is fine but if your gonna do that then why not do the alligator burn instead?
Didn’t want the wood completely blistered and blackened, a light flame brush with the oil we use creates a really nice contrast
What is the purpose of the charring? Is it just for aesthetics?
Shou Sugi Ban fortifies and protects the wood against future damage, making it a good way to preserve the wood.
Excellent work! What is that liquid you rolled on the rafters?
Australian Timber Frame Oil
@@SmokyMountainOutpost Thank you
Do work from plans or is your work designed by you?
I just mainly do it in my head on the “fly.”

😂
What kind of nails are you using in this video
Just regular 20 d nails.
Getting a little bored can’t you fast forward some of the video, all you see is burning and oiling the wood you have shown the video twice!!!
