This video begins an ultimate Thai food tour of Chiang Mai, Thailand. Get ready for some incredibly delicious Northern Thai food!
Khao soi (ข้าวซอย sometimes khao soy), or curry noodles, is one of the most popular Thai dishes in northern Thailand. It has a very unique history and though details are not completely known, most say that it originally was brought from Yunnan, China through Myanmar, adapting along the way, and finally reaching Chiang Mai, where it’s become of the iconic foods. In Thailand though, is where the dish accumulated coconut milk, which is found in most version now.
What is khao soi (ข้าวซอย)? Khao soi (ข้าวซอย) typically includes yellow egg noodles of some form, which are combined with a meat - usually beef or chicken (and I typically order beef as much as I can) - topped in coconut milk curry sauce, and finally sprinkled with coconut cream, and finally topped with crispy fried noodles.
There’s a massive debate over who serves the best khao soi in Chiang Mai, and I don’t think it will ever be resolved because everyone has a different taste. But along with the help of my friend Tom (from Chaseki tea shop in Chiang Mai: / chaseki.tea ) and Joel, we set off to eat 5 bowls of khao soi in a row to share with you what we think is the best khao soi in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
Here are the restaurants we ate at:
1. Khao Soi Islam (ร้านข้าวซอยอิสลาม goo.gl/maps/2W...) - This is a longtime restaurant serving khao soi in what is known to be quite a traditional version. It’s a Halal restaurant, and their beef is amazing, but the curry is quite mild in spice.
Price - 60 THB ($1.82) for big bowl
2. Khao Soi Khun Yai (ร้านข้าวซอยคุณยาย goo.gl/maps/aR...) - Next we went to Khao Soi Khun Yai (ร้านข้าวซอยคุณยาย), what was many years ago one of my favorite bowls, but this time?
Price - 40 THB ($1.22) per bowl
3. Khao Soi Loong Prakid Kad Gom (ข้าวซอย ลุงประกิจกาดก้อม goo.gl/maps/Mh...) - Many locals from Chiang Mai recommended I check out Khao Soi Loong Prakid Kad Gom (ข้าวซอย ลุงประกิจกาดก้อม), and it was amazing. The size, and the taste were spectacular.
Price - 40 THB ($1.22) per bowl
4. Khao Soi Mae Manee (ข้าวซอยแม่มณี goo.gl/maps/Ry...) - About a 10 minute drive from the center of Chiang Mai we found ourselves in a neighborhood for our fourth bowl of khao soi at Khao Soi Mae Manee (ข้าวซอยแม่มณี). The Aunty was so friendly and I watched her as she assembled our bowls, amazing.
Price - 40 THB ($1.22) per bowl
5. Khao Soi Mae Sai (ร้านข้าวซอยแม่สาย goo.gl/maps/ot...) - Finally, to end this best khao soi tour of Chiang Mai we went to Khao Soi Mae Sai (ร้านข้าวซอยแม่สาย), what is one of the most popular restaurants to eat khao soi in Chiang Mai.
Price - 50 THB ($1.52) per bowl
Make sure you watch the entire video to find out the best khao soi in Chiang Mai!

I’m Thai, and I love watching your videos because it reminds me of the times I’d visit Thailand with my family.
I love Mark & Ying’s series. No matter where their travels take them to enjoy & show all the wonderful food & culture of amazing countries, Thailand has the best food. Hands down! There’s so much influence & history in each dish

I am so happy to see you are in Chiang Mai which is one of my most favorite destinations as well as Luang Prabang, Laos.
Chiang Mai is so beautiful with a lot of green, Thai cultures, and really really friendly people. That's why many foreigners such as Europeans, Americans, Australians, even Chinese, Singaporeans, and Japanese fall in love with this beautiful city.
Sunday Walking Street is one of the best street markets in the world.
Its lovely to see Mark's wife is accompanying and inspiring him almost everywhere. SHE is equally responsible for this channel's popularity. GOD BLESS YOU BOTH.
don't forget Micah :)
They’re his lucky charms
@@rajsamb Wtf? She's been helping him with his blog and photos and writing about Thai food so naturally she should be mentioned too! Read up about them before posting your stupid comment!
At least she is allowed to in Thailand
It is nice to see she doesnt mind his new boyfriend
My favorite parts are when Joel and Mark laugh from how good it is. It literally makes my day
I recently 'discovered' you and I have to say for about 1 week I have been watching your videos for hours and hours...
At the end of October I will travel to Thailand and I have added a lot of foodplaces on my must-visit-must-eat- places🙂
Thank you very very much for all the information and the very much enjoyable videos🙏
Water always comes
In my mouth while watching him eating what a sense of taste he has. Thai food can outsmart so many dishes from different countries . And one more thing I am missing PAKISTAN series..
Big love
Aashish 🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳

All the food looks so good, but what really looks good is Joel. Love his hair like that and with his beard low you can really see his baby face. What a cutie!! Smooches Joel!
I really admire Mark. It makes my day complete every time I'm watching his episodes. Good luck.
I am a vegetarian and watching this after having my big bowl of lunch. Still, Marks make you feel like wanting it! Dear Mark, you are THIS GOOD! Thank you for being such a positive, humble and an amazing foodie! 👑🥇Much love to your better half Ying and Micah! ❤️❤️❤️
I love Thai food, yummy 👌. Thanks for an amazing year of showing us all the various dishes around the world, we are looking forward to an equally fantastic 2019. Stay blessed.
One of my favorite dishes in the world! This is quite a treat. Happy day everyone!
Those who love to watch food shows, especially, Mark's shows, make one nation. We are art lovers, every cuisine is an art. Pakistani, Indian, Turkish, Thai, Chinese all cuisines are stunning ! .
After watching this video we immediately tried to find a place where they served KHAO SOI, we got really lucky and found one at Weera Thai restaurant in Vegas and it was so good. It's now our go to Thai restaurants. Thanks for this great video Mark.
Happy New year Mark, Ying, Micah and Joel!
Happy New Year!
Already new year there 😱 I got almost 22 hours left 😂
I don't know but I love seeing Joel with Mark and the family 😊
Ladpielcanela2010-olguita is that his brother ?

I just have notice from all marks video that has joel in it.when ever joel sits next to mark to eat he is extra happy..when ever someone else or ying is next to mark he does'nt look too happy. the reason why I notice this is hey I lived in san francisco and we have tons of these here. I don't think anyboby ever watch marks video over and over and over again like I do.because at my work i can watch youtube all day long and when I get home I onlyy have youtube so thats pretty much what I watch all year long.. so I notice things more than anybody else can..I have nothin against gay or les but I just dont like copy cat..
tommy m wtf are you going on about.
You just know the friends with Mark are top tier people....Joel is awesome, so laid back. Mark is very lucky to have a friend like that
I was like waiting another video of Pakistan forgot u back from Pakistan oh really miss u in Pakistan
Mark even in Karachi there is a variation of the same dish called Khaosuey!
the video bowled me over PUN intended and the noodles looked awesome. If I am ever in Chiangmai that would be my top 3 must eat. Thanks again Mark for the great video
I really want to travel and eat with Mark, he makes everything look so good!!
Great vidéo. You should really visit north africa countries Algeria morocco nd tunisia they are so beautiful with different dishes nd cultures
Your thailand food videos are still the best ...
Welcome back to Thailand 🇹🇭 teacher really I’m so happy to see you come back . I love khao soi too
How can people give this guy a thumbs down? His uploads are truely epic and the way he's eyes light up when he is eating brings a smile to my face very educational too.
I love Joel! He finds joy and laughter in every dish, just like you Mark!
I love curry's, and watching Mark eat it makes it sound so good and the curry's he eat is way better the the average curry's
When Mark says he'll put a bit of chili, it means a heaping spoonful of chili.
These 3 guys make perfect match eating together, full of joy.
I'll watch videos that have Joel in them all day long...soooo easy on the eyes !
Now that's my kind of tour! A tour like that is reason enough to travel to Chiang Mai.
Living for this channel and all your food adventures!!! Are you and Joel related?? You all have similar traits and it’s so cute. Happy New Year to you and your family. Blessings
Thailand is one of my top 5 countries to visit once I’m done with secondary school sixth form and university. I love the the culture of Thailand and the food of course.
Mark and Joel are goals😍😍(I wanna have someone similar as my food and travel partner I future)
From indonesia we love you.😍 nice video good jobb
Dont know if you have always been uploading in 4k. But those of us who have the means to watch in 4k, appreciate the time and effort in uploading videos in 4k! Thank you! Keep up the good work.
I have been to 3 of those 5 places!!! Khao Soi Khun Yai is the best of them but I also found 2 others. The Khao Soi at Sanpakoi is not to be missed…as well as at Nice Moo Satay on Changklan road
*From which COUNTRY* you watching our Mark from........ ?
I N D I A 😁
🇭🇹 Haiti

Pakistan
Switzerland
Now I feel like I’m missing out while I sit here with my pizza pockets 😭
Mark Wiens, We are in Chiang Mai now! We went to # 3 for khao soi, it's the closer one to where we are staying. The Grab ride cost much more than 2 bowls of khao soi! It was very good, the best so far! Thanks!
Damn I read trough the comment and a lot of them is about Pakistan wich is not suprising, it was one of the best series. But im more suprised over how positive the replies are on those Pakistan comments. Haven't read a single negative, angry or racist reply/comment from anyone. Im shook but mostly happy. This is what power of food does, it brings people together from all over the world. Share love through food and not war from hate or greed. Keep going Mark you'r videos never cease too put a smile on faces.
OMG! I will definitely try this when I visit Thailand 😊
Love when your with Joel xx
Awesome! I live in Chiang Mai and have only been to no5. Will def try the rest thanks so much!
When you order your Thai food there is mild, medium, hot then “Thai hot” 🔥 believe the new one should be “Mark Weins 🥵 “ and you have to sign a waiver
🤣🤣
Holy crap, every comment is from Pakistan. Thailand is home, he couldnt stay there forever, lol.
turtle! That shows you how patriotic Pakistanis are.
So sure you are right buddy but we are just expressing our feelings.
you are soooooooooooooooo right. folks are just into nationalism, narcissism and idolatry. ...can't come to realize there are other things to love than just themselves. yuck. good series it was, but mark has to move on. it's not a show about any 1 doggone STAN!
He definitely gained a lot of fans from there!
Mark I really amazed what kind of metabolism you have, despite the numbers of noodle bowls you have eaten, you do not gain weight.
Whenever I feel not like eating / not hungry , I watch his video .... and goes to restaurant!!!
I'm still watching! I'm on a binge watch.. lol. I love every video.
Although I'm from England, I'm pleased that your Pakistani friends are still on board with you!
ALWAYS awesome videos Mark !
Kao Soi Mae Manee also got a Michelin Recognition ( not star yet) We love it there
4:23 He's right that does sound like a nice rainy day activity
I love Chiang Mai!!
And I miss Khao Soi sooooo much!
The noodles looked so so pleasing to the eye. Made me hungry.😍😘
My boyfriend loves Mark Weins. I started watching his videos bcz of him.😍😍
@@rashmigautam16 Me too. First my boyfriend used to watch then I started watching. 😍Mark Weins is so so so cute. I loved his editing style.
it is incredible MARK how you can enjoy such a large amount of food, i mean surely should be something that you dislike don't ya? my girlfriend is thai and as you i love thai food!! i never get sick of it! greetings from Sydney stay safe out there!
I first tried Khao Soi at the GlassHouse restaurant in Chiang Mai, it was UNBELIEVABLE! I suggest trying theirs!
Love you and your little family Mark! Happy New Year!
I wish this video was available around spring so that I could visit one of them before travelling Chiang Mai. I went to Khao Soi Nimman. It was nice outdoor and mix of locals and travellers and good food. Love to go back to Chiang Mai someday and eat those five restaurants that Mark, his family and friends went to.
Thank you so much for this video, khan soi is my absolute favourite Thai dish. Yesterday I finally found Khao Sou Kun Yai after a couple of unsuccessful passes by two days prior. She definitely did not disappoint! I'm planning to go back tomorrow with my bro and his family. The only down side is that I am only here for a week. This will be the standard to which all other Khao Soi will be compared in the future. Keep the videos coming! 😀
come on.... Joel has to be related to Mark.. mannerisms, mouth movement, enthusiasm for food, personalities, speech similarities
I think they are related. Not sure. I did wonder that as they look a bit (not a lot) the same
Watching from Pakistan..
We called it KHAAO SAA it make with gram floor, meat sauce, spegetti and toping with fried onion, parsley, and fry wafers(paapri)
I think the brilliant Pakistan series even taught a master like Mark a lesson. That took it to another level. He needs to find somewhere equally untraveled and partisan to bring on so many fans.
O wow i want too eat
Tom said it best Khao Soi is Pure Joy!
Very delicious make Me hungry thank You for this excellent video
love those oily chili flakes, but one scoop for me would be my max for a day:-)
Oh gosh I am so happy that you made a video in Chiang Mai. And we LOVE Khao Soi. Yum!
You have given me the courage to take the step and visit Thailand. Any other travel advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks and look forward to move food adventures.
lol, Joel looks like the kind of guy who would apologise if you punched him.
I don't know, I don't think you want to make him mad.
Joel is so unbelievably handsome in a playful cute kinda way. Idk..I always love his reactions to food. Even his first scene when he's introduced he's just so yum! (*fangirl mode deactivated)
😂😂😂😂 Like the ones in animes. lmao
Watching this while I’m having mee sapi, double bowl. I came prepared.
Your videos got me into Thai food haha I loooooove Thai now❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Great video but I am really so fed up reading the same comments in every video after the series in Pakistan. Get over it people! He travels the world! Not only one country! Pfff! Imagine if everyone was only supporting their own country in the comments... so please stop that.. and open your minds to the world!
Mos of them who are commenting on Pakistan series are not actually Pakistanis.
@@eleggance and where are they from? and why do they keep spaming?
Emma we are just expressing our feelings. We are open minded too so don't behave like this.
@@emmabee5027 You can easily know many of them are not from Pakistan by looking at their names, comments, liked videos, profiles. for example, Android Gamer,
Warglaive of Azzinoth, Amos Makokha , Abrro nell, Eugene Wangchuck,
Aashish Pandia , Gireesh Gollapudi, Sandy Pants etc are not from Pakistan
eleggance that might be true I didn't notice that, but the majority is from Pakistan. I have no problem at all with the country or where they are coming from, I am just saying that within the last 2 years that I have been watching Mark's videos I have never seen such a reaction with any of his videos. None. So since the majority is from Pakistan, I would really like to read others people comments as well, besides the same comment 1000 times...how people miss the specific series, in a video that shows another country and since there are at least 5-6 videos on Pakistan. You see my point?
I’m jealous lol. I love khow suey. My mum lived in Burma for a while n made her own version of this. The trimmings included fried onions, boiled egg n thinly cut fried potatoes. So yummy. Missing your Pakistan series, Mark. Lovely to see Ying n Micah n of course Joel. Hello to your new friend too.
How could you guys eat that much? Amazing! I love Kao Soi! Not lots of Thai restaurants here in the Sacramento area offer the dish on their menus.
I would agree also. Just the look of # 3 & #4 already says a lot of the taste.
Seen already. Looks very yummy. Noodles really like it.
Amazing person and Amazing videos love to watch keep up the amazing work your doing your an inspiration
Best vids mate continue on and upload more often!
Let me clarify something here. That Khao Soi dish comes from Myanmar. Khao Soi literally means just "Noodle" in Myanmar language. So, the fact noodle "Khao Soi" comes from China is true. But the soup, broth or curry sauce is solely from Myanmar. It's like we call Japanese Ramen or Vietnamese Pho although the origin of noodle is China. Bec there are lots of Myanmar population in Chiang Mai, it's no wonder Khao Soi is popular dish there. In Myanmar, it's called "Ohn Noh Khao Swe" which means "Coconut noodle". Ching Mai version is a kind of variation of our coconut noodle.
Really?
“a little splashage of chili oil”... more wonderful Markism!
always love your videos!!
Dude Mark I'm your biggest fan since I been watching you for four years and I try different foods because of you you make the eating experiment enjoyable to watch I like trying different foods now because of you I'm your biggest fan nothing but blessings 🙏 to you and your family

Chiang Mai is my favourite place in Thailand and Khao Soi is my favourite Thai food! 😍
Notice the handshake. Black men will use a extra hand shake after the initial hand shake interlocking the fingers. Also after the hand shake can be followed up with dap or pound of the fists or a snap of the fingers. Its all love at the end of the day. 1:34
Thanks for the advice mark went to Khao soi Koong pradkid Mad gom today and was out of this world 😋 had Khao soi the previous night, close to the night bazaar at more than 5 times the prise and wasn't a patch on today wow just wow!
