Hey Lord Xarkun ! Nice review -- it is a fun ship, as you noted. I did my research, and posted some of this info to Monk-52's review, as he'd asked me for comment, after I saw his vid, and wanted to provide the same here, as it kind of springboards off your "feelings" that it's "sorta squishy" in the armor department (in some respects). So... extra bonus stat info ...go ! --- -- Giulio Cesare's 320-mm guns have a velocity of 830-meters per second (quite fast), making aiming at farther off targets not that hard -- and giving very little time for enemies to evade, at closer ranges). Those guns can penetrate 439-mm of armoring at 5-km , 416-mm at 10-km, and 320-mm at an extreme 15-km distance to your target. This is actually quite good, and compares favorably to the 15-inch guns on HMS Hood and HMS Queen Elizabeth. On Armor, Cesare has a 19-mm Bow and Stern, but there's also an 85-mm section underneath the 19-mm plates (a beak of sorts, from her original old Dreadnought Battleship hull, that the Italians built over during her modernization). This extra plating means that shots that would pierce the 19-mm's normally (280-mm main guns or higher), can often still be deflected, or at least a Citadel hit head-on will be stopped, by that bonus internal armoring. But your instinct is right that GC can be penned frontally by essentially all battleship caliber guns she faces, even the Tier-3 Nassau's. Her main citadel-belt armoring is 250-mm thick, and there's a very small / minor 'turtleback' that adds an additional 24-mm, whilst the Citadel Wall itself is 40-mm thick. Thus a shell needs to technically have the ability to penetrate nearly 315-mm of armoring (all added up), in order to defeat her side shielding, at the thickest part, and score a Citadel. Note that the "Upper Belt" - above the waterline area, is only 130-mm thick, and you don't have the minor turtleback shielding to help you there. It's just the 130 + 40-mm Citadel Wall (so much less protected than just a few meters lower, on the vessel). All this adds up to -- you don't really want to get caught flat broadside (true in most ships, of course), as same-Tier and even Tier-3 Legends BB's all have the penetration needed to crush you, at 10-km or less. Oh yeah, one final point.. her Turret Armoring is only 240-mm, frontally, At closeish ranges, if going up against her, most BB's can send AP shells right through those facings, and damage or permanently knock them out (go for the Triple Turret first, if possible, lol). I got the Giulio Cesare a few seconds after it was released in the store. I must say, it is the best tier 4 premium battleship. I was desperately waiting for it.
Great video! This is a very good shop and fun to play at Tier IV. This ship has a tricky name to pronounce in Italian, (pronounced Julius Caesar in English) but hopefully this helps . The “G’s” in Italian are generally silent and the “C’s” at the beginning of words are pronounced with “Ch” sound. The “S” in “Cesare” makes a “z” sound. “Giulio Cesare” is best pronounced like this: ee-you-lio chez-a-ray Hopefully this helps. I find this ship to be kinda “tanky” with angled caution, and can hold its own with some Tier V ships like the Arizona and few others at Tier V. I think this ship would respond greatly, if there was an Italian dispersion battleship captain. Still, it’s a lot of fun ship to play.
Very nice, I'd say I'll pick it up because I need a tier IV premium, it looks nice, and is very punishing to ships of it's tier and lower from what I've seen
Nice review! Picked her up this morning before work and only have 2 battles under my belt, but I like it. Your assessment that she is a bit squishy is correct. Got in a brawl with California and those 356's can indeed penetrate her bow, at close range anyway. Very attractive ship...GG!
I love fast, maneuverable BBs. 5 barrels off either bow or stern is a good amount of firepower (for the matchups it will see) to bear while staying protected. Not the most, but solid. A shame I am not in the market for a T4 BB. Also...WG puts out a dud of a cruiser tech tree, but 2 good, maybe great, BBs for the Italians. What gives? Stay salty.
I like her, she’s fast too. Dispersion and pen is a bit below average for both, but she is a really solid performer. I like her a lot. Been waiting on her and the aroma for a while. Roma gets a lot of shit, but I stomp in her.
Bow armour is deceptive, if its like pc model and real life it has an internal 2nd bow. Ive bounced Kongo and bayern shells of the nose quite a few times, go complete bow on with no angle. Side armour is very bad.

Angling is best since you can use it's armour belt more effectively

Was a free ship on PC tier 5 was very good for it's tier if I remember correctly
