I love westerns, but I didn't see Hopalong Cassidy until I was nearly 50. Fell in love with him instantly. I'm 72 and I still watch and enjoy his films today.

Hi Wesley! I grew up on a diet of westerns in the sixties . As a kid I lived and breathed Cowboys and Indians. I'm not an emotional person normally and I've only just discovered the Hopalong movies but I'm not ashamed to admit as I watched this doc the tears were tripping me. The true story of the man embracing the morals of the character he portrayed and becoming a better man for it gives me an hope in humanity.

Great job with this documentary! I rediscovered Hoppy about a month ago and I am addicted to his movies. Amazingly high quality and a character who can still inspire children and adults today with his good values, honesty, integrity, transparency and sense of justice and doing what is right.

I heard the name and knew my parents surely watched him, but thanks to his movies being uploaded on UA-cam, I have been enjoying him and his sidekicks for over a week now. That killer smile and great acting caught me right away. Great writing, interesting storylinrs, directing, producing, etc. So entertaining and values. ❤👍

Growing up in the 50's and early 60's my favorites Hopalong Cassidy (William Boyd) and the Lone Ranger (Clayton Moore) were characters that had a moral code that they encouraged all their young fans to follow.

This documentary was exceptional. I've been watching Hopalong for the past week after being introduced to him as a suggestive watch here on UA-cam. So glad it was suggested and that I watched the first Hoppy movie. Hook instantly. What a nice surprise to know William Boyd was a wonderful man who turned his life on the strait and narrow and the Hopalong character dwelled within his soul. What a gift in so many ways.

When I was nine years old in 1963, my younger brother got the part of playing Hopalong Cassidy in a second grade school play. I was jealous because my mother was a very good seamstress and made his costume to look exactly like Hoppy's. My dad sent for a special hat, guns and boots to complete the outfit. He was the envy of the school. The irony was that I was a huge fan and my brother could cared less who Hoppy was. He got the part because he was blonde haired and blue eyed like Boyd.

@Sweelen Simpson Hold on! He may have had blonde hair and blue eyes, but I had jet black hair with green eyes and everyone always said I looked Like Elvis Presley. My problem was that I was a pretty shy kid. Girls loved it, but it's still hard on a shy kid, lol.

I never got to watch Hopalong Cassidy growing up, the type of Westerns I got to watch growing up in Egypt during the 90s were titles like the Davey Crocket mini-series, Bonanza and the number of Western films starring names like John Wayne, Clint Eastwood as well as the Terrence Hill-Bud Spencer Western-Comedies and a number of cartoons and comics like Lucky Luke.
But then when I used to work for a call centre here in Egypt that was contracted to US satellite radio company Sirius XM, we were given the luxury of listening to the online play (minus the live sports) and one of the programs I listened to was Radio Classics, which played classic radio shows (mainly listened to it to listen to the Superman radio show). One of the shows I listened to a lot was the Hopalong Cassidy radio show and I was hooked so I looked up any information I could find about the character online and luckily for me, UA-cam is filled with Hopalong films and episodes from the TV series.

In 1968 I was 20 years old when I was invited to Thanksgiving dinner by acquaintances Charlie and Harriet Hinman who lived in Palm Springs. Also at dinner was an elderly man in a wheelchair who was introduced to me only as Mr Boyd. He was a lovely, rather withdrawn man and only later was I told it was Hoppy. I asked why nobody told me who he was at the time and was told that he didn't want anyone to think of Hoppy Cassidy in a wheel chair. I will always cherish that dinner with a man despite not knowing who he really was.

Yes, he had a rough ending with Parkinson and worked as long as he could on touring or Festivals and so forth after he no longer did the series. He did not want fans to know or see him in a wheelchair. He always worked as long as he could to make sure there was enough for Grace to live well after he was gone--she being so much younger than him. They were so devoted to each other, a true love story.

Movie Museum in Lone Pine California has a Hoppy Section ... been their a couple of times ... they have William Boyd's convertible shown in this video with a large blown up photograph behind it of Hoppy jumping the car on his horse Topper ... not a stunt man or a fake picture ... the horse was amazing and so was William Boyd ... Hoppy's movie house in an area called Lone Pine Movie Flats is still standing and is someone's home now but you can still see it from 30 feet or so ... compare Hopalong Cassidy to today's Rap Music then think about who was better off ...

Amazing only 872 likes with 3800 subs and 61000 views. Such a great bio and having the beautiful Grace Boyd narrating is fabulous as she has passed now. Bill Boyd was a hugely lucky with TV and the timing of control of the Hopalong Cassidy character rewarded him for all his amazing risk of buying control when he was 50 plus years old and movies were dropping off. He showed great wisdom after really making it that he lived a very modest life. No big shot. He had learned from when he his career failed due to his name being ruined by false reporting on another William “Stage” Boyd who was up to no good. Unfortunately he was stricken with an illness and died too early. I love Hoppy from a kid. His side kick. His laugh!

A co-worker of mine had relatives who lived in the small town of Gomer, Ohio on the Lincoln Highway during the 1930s.
