Years ago a friend asked me to fix a boombox a bit like this (pre CD era, I think it was a radio-cassette) which had suddenly lost audio output. I was able to trace the audio signal all the way to the input of the final power amplifier chip, which had no output, so I naturally assumed it was the chip. I replaced it, and the fault persisted. It was a common chip, so I delved a bit deeper, comparing the layout on the PCB with the manufacturer's data sheet, and found it was basically identical, with every component having the same values. But one resistor was just not there; there was no provision for it on the PCB. I assumed JVC knew what they were doing, so continued to look for a fault elsewhere, but in the end it came back to that one difference. Out of curiosity, I added the resistor on the back of the board and the thing came to life. Job done... The real mystery was how this unit (and thousands like it sold at the time) had ever worked.
I'm glad you did fix it.This answered many questions of my boom boxes and their poorly made devices for the mass market various problems I had were just explained in whole process. From broken parts to melting to fuse a part together. I had a couple parts I did this to. And to the fact that the fix had lasted for years. My Sanyo 6 disc cd changer still works. This was made in 1986 and I still use it.I 54 being nostalgic because I used portable players because the cost of a stand alone was impossible for me I have had about 30 over the years. Just by doing this video explained alot. I Hate sand to😂Good Video 😎 Do more videos on the generic electronics if you can Thanks Again 🙂
Well you did repair it and for a kitchen radio it sounds fine. Well one grain of sand in the tape deck, never seen that before. I would be supprised if the tuning indicator lasted, but it works for now. Years ago i repaired a real getto blaster, it was massive and full with "D" cells. It originally came from america, a whole music center with a handle lol. How a rastafarian lugged one of those beasts around, i don't know. I would have used a wheel barrow :-D
Chances are the radio will be tuned to one station and left there. Most people I'd a certain age tune to the talk radio station on am and leave their radio locked there.
I know it's midnight here in UK but I got to comment another job well done Dave have you ever melted plastic with the iron and got the fumes in ya eyes my god it stings lol
also known as a monoscope. There was a home video playback system by Motorola called the EVR, it was essentially a monoscope combined with a movie projector, or a telecine in a box. The flying-spot CRT scanned the film frame and the photomultiplier produced the video output. There was some additional circuitry to decode sound and a color-under subcarrier on the edges of the frame, I believe.
Kodak had a super8 flying spot film player. We had one at the station i worked at. I always wanted it but it went to the dump. I scanned a filming I made of the guys i hung with riding dirt bikes when we were young. I have the tape of that conversion from the flying spot scanner. I also have the film. I should scan that on my wolverine and do a comparison between the 2. FYI a monoscope is different. A monoscope is a camera tube with the indianhead pattern in place of the target as an etched metal screen at the front of the tube where the target was. That etched target output the video signal directly. I'll try to get this b&k tv analyst running at some point. Will be a cool project. Will need a bunch of caps for sure.
Genial estos reproductores tienen muy buena CALIDAD de audio y vale mucho repararlos xq duran mucho tiempo las USB son una porqueria y suenan horrible carecen de frecuencias bajas buena reparacion ingeniero 👏👍
at 12.40 I wonder if the flying spot tube has a toilet roll to protect it in storage like Shango's lol (I knew what it was only because of his videos, super cool piece of kit. Hope you get some cool test cards with it too!) Edit- Ha great minds (yours, not as much mine though lol). Just as you were mentioning the 3d print idea I was thinking "surely we could weld a bit of zip tie on in place, wonder if it'd be too flexible". Guess I'm about to find out. zip ties make brilliant filler rod for plastic welding, as long as you don't use the cheapest crappy ones that just seem to burn away instead of melt.
Just a question: is any solution for DIY making belt for cassette player. i couldn't found any spare, so decide to make it by myself. i don't know HOW. Any suggesstion please?
Fubar was a Canadian movie about a couple of friends. One guy gets a cancer diagnosis so him and his buddies decide to go camping for one last bash before he goes in for surgery and treatment. Was a mocunentary type film where they actually sucked people into believing it was real (like borat) anyway they had their big party and were really fubar. As an indie Canadian film it was actually well done.
My shop was in back of Radio Shack and right next to the Video rental store in a small town. The other repair guy hated me because I sent so many Id10ts and their sh1t up the hill to is shop and I kept the VCR cleanings $$$$!

Excellent repair Dave! Saved from the dump. Thank you for taking the effort, even if it was not really worth it, I still enjoyed this repair.
JB Weld, Super glue, zip ties and even Duct tape in a pinch are my go to repair supplies. Got to work on the plastic solder welds.
Great repair video. It may seem like a waste of your time but it was interesting to see the mechanical fixes you did with no budget involved.

Most of the newer low end JVC portables were made by a company called Matestar, and they're even worse quality than this one.

Which JB weld do you use? The regular stuff or the KwikWeld?

I like your repair Videos. I still have a similar Panasonic one, Thank you very much.
Excellent job done, saved another one from being thrown away.
Do a good cleanup and that thing is a winner. Great save :)

Good vid! I would have put some thin tape on the back of the dial indicator

That radio was owned by spiderman before 😂 😂 😂
Not a waste of time, thanks for sharing!
good, they make it easy to work on.
"Will this boomer ever work again?" The radio or the neighbor?
Lol. Threw in the towel when covid hit. He not going back to work.
Comment @ 7.31 into video ,can you super glue tuner strip. I am guessing you got a fuse of transistor bad on amp/Radio board.
Good fix, Dave. This one was all mechanical fixes...who knows what else will happen happen to it in the future.
I don't care because i won't be fixing it.
Great job, Dave!
3:38 Damn, now I know, that I am not young anymore with my 44 🤣
👍👍 watching Po
Too bad the name "Barnyard Finds" is taken! Fubar was a punk rock band in the 70's ?🙂

Nice repair job!

VCR cleanings were like a license to print money 30.00 at a time. Some days would do 10 by lunch time.
i love the old stuff that was made to last not like the crap these days!!!
👍
You say "useless video?" Count me in. hahaha :)
These spare parts are gone long ago.
That' protons JVC RCX240 BOOM BOX S KOOL
@@greggaieck4119 Yes, but spare parts are no more available of these fantastic machines.
Mary Christmas and happy new year
That was good fix on the tap deck when you remove grain of sand and when you fix the cd player ejit buntin to open the cd player
The modern ones are junk
This one works again
