I thought the early 2010's was more of a dream pop bubble, but I get what you mean. Shoegaze didn't really hit the heights that this whole "bedroom pop" movement has, though, even though excellent shoegaze albums came out (Distressor, mbv, etc). That's a good point on the part geography plays with music. It seems like only certain non-Western albums reach any level of indie fame (Exuma, Fishmans, etc) and Pitchfork pat themselves on the back once a year by reviewing a token Latin American or African music compilation. I hate how all non-Western music is boxed into this "world music" genre, too. At least a lot of Korean and Japanese music is penetrating the West at the moment.
I really liked Clairo but when I found out that she didn’t do it all herself made me really sad because she’s portraying the “self made artist” image and not being completely honest :/

I’ve been following clairo for a min, bro. She even liked my tweet about her last May. I’m deadass a fan but I will say it’s very, very odd how she’s grown so much in such a sort amount of time. Pretty Girl is good but is it really 6 million views in a couple months good? Like honestly... is it? I’ve seen literally no modern artist release a semi decent track & get millions of views in a couple of months or Big interviews & performances with some of the biggest artists out rn... It’s very odd but I’m a fan... I honestly think she’s a plant tho.
HYPESAGE! LMAOO. I’m actually truly saddened by this because I’ve followed her for quite sometime & her recent success inspired me to keep pushing my music. I just released a 3 Track indie pop EP on SoundCloud (INDEPENDENTLY 😂) & I’ve gotten 21,938 plays in 3 Days & I’m sitting here thinking I’m going to be like clairo & get some magazine features or something because my crap is good & it turns out “allegedly” strings have been pulled for her. smh. DOPE VIDEO THOUGH, MY MAN. ❤️ #Subscribed
honestly I'm getting kinda tired of this really generic "lofi indie" sound and 100's of artists inspired by people like Mac. Steve Lacy is one of the only ones I can still listen to without getting a headache
see the thing with that statement is that everything that has a guitar with a chorus effect gets branded as a „mac demarco ripoff“ even though a lot of it doesnt sound like mac at all
KING KRULE Britain's finest in my humble opinion ;D hehe Naaah I love yellow days too and all my UK folk. I can't really fault UK bands or indie artist, especially temples (THERE SOOO GOOD)
+yesthatisright very true! Sure there are people that actually are trying to copy him but people think he has a patent on 70's inspired groovy (for lack of a better term) guitar parts. Mac wouldn't even act like he made that sound. Not to say he doesn't have his own style.
kind of disappointing considering the fact that i totally bought the "self made artist" title. oh well, you can never really trust the music industry.. no matter what though, i'll always like her music yknow.
yea seems like 'pretty girl' was a good excuse to "BLOW UP" haha. i was really surprised when i saw her doing an interview with FADER - then the Observatory show. and the thing is - she doesn't really sound great live - that was a little disappointing - and like - why isn't like Zack Villere giving out interviews and stuff? his 'cool' video has reached 2 mil already but no one seems to give a damn cuz he doesn't have connections i guess. meh
I mean while Zack Villere is dope, hes not getting the same amount of attention as clairo. Like just because hes a sick artist and all doesnt mean much to companies doing these interviews. Clairo has had a sudden shot in attention, her name is basically clickbait, people are talking about her(ie this very video)
i watched a interview of her and could just tell its a gimmick off top...she has some chill songs tho..but ya i feel u...the "ya im just a chill girl" thing.
yeah i felt that her jump in views between videos was pretty suspicious, and her "im self made" vibe isnt a real one, like certain other bands (the garden, for example. they cant even hit 1 mil views on some amazing tunes). dont get me wrong, i enjoy some of her songs, but it feels kinda like a huge lie she's pulling on us.
yeah furthermore it gets me irked that she got to play the observatory and some large revenues, taking the place of rightful artists, like some who played camp flog gnaw.
Right? The Garden twins have been working their asses off for almost 8 years and barely reach 100k views. Here's a girl with a mediocre sound that pops up outta nowhere and she's already playing festivals.
dude this is so true! inner wave, banes world, etc. have been making insane & unique music for years and they don’t have nearly as much popularity [that they deserve] as clairo in a few months. i’ve always been a little skeptical of her success but i’ll still support her nonetheless
Andrew Broussard because what sage has said claire presents herself from starting from the bottom, from nothing when her father has connections. So it seems like her whole career startup is bullshit.
Been waiting on this video! Great coverage, Sage! Truly a fan of this channel. I’ve been a fan of Clairo since her early bandcamp days and although I’ve been happy to see her succeed, I have been scratching my head on how rapid her fame has been coming since she pretty much only has about 2 big “mainstream” songs. After finding out this info, it’s had me torn whether to like her or not because of the honesty of her “indie” come up, it just feels deceitful for some reason.
I THINK SHES COOL AND I LOVE PRETTY GIRL BUT I KNEW SOMETHING WAS OFF WHEN I HAD SEEN SHE ALREADY LANDED HERSELF A GREAT LINE UP LIKE " THE OBSERVATORY "
Her videos can't even go past eight hundred K of views, and she's been releasing music since like eight years. Clairo got 7.6 million views on her first? track, and probably a few other millions of plays in Facebook and other social media. Frankie's not at fault for being the daughter of two wealthy actors. You don't see her music being shilled everywhere. Case different with Clairo. Shit, even almost every member of the Strokes has a wealthy background, and their music was shilled as fuck in the 2000s, but you don't see people pointing fingers at them.
Nakamura. While it’s true that Julian and Albert had rich fathers, the rest were not wealthy on that stand-point. Julian had a horrible relationship with his father and had to work as a bartender. Albert’s father helped them out with equipment, but they never went to him for the stuff. Julian persuaded models to go to their shows so they could have an audience to spread the word - so I think that’s where it started. They played at dive bars, and such. The Strokes actually held a lot of talent though, and knew how to market themselves.
Bamboo Latte While I don't discuss the point of their relationship, and whether it was good or bad, I do discuss about a link being there. Whether Julian's father influence was used is something we can't confirm or disregard. Of course they were absolutely hyped by music magazines and reviewers though. While I'm not a huge fan of Cosmos, my point is that people have huge double standards regarding musicians. Whether Cosmo's or Julian's strings to their families were used, then again, it's something you won't know (unlike Clairo *cough*), people will inmediatly jump into anything they don't like, and find any mediocre excuse to justify that attitude, even when The Strokes, thanks to their marketing, were shilled even way more than Clairo will ever be, obviously making the assumption that's a bad thing.
Nakamura. I honestly don’t see Clairo surviving as an artist, because she’s as bland as they come. There’s an influx of indie artists right now, and she doesn’t stick out at all. Especially with how boring and bad her live shows are.
This fucking video is great! I knew something was weird she blew up and got so much notice out of nowhere!...she's great for what she's doing but she has to give credit where credits due. Great video man
It seems like Chance/Pat Corcoran(and Clairo in this instance) aren't really interested in signing to labels but it's still sort of a large production with money behind it, just with the facade of independence and pure artistry. Tbf I still like their music. Great video tho, research was done better than most "journalists".
I thought it was pretty fishy that she literally blew up from zero to hero overnight. It just shows you that theres more than meets the eye to the industry
It's kinda sad couse i actually work on my music by myself and it's really hard, even more when you don't even have money and have to rely on friends and cheap equipement, but i think i managed to make it sound sorta nice. I know i won't "make it", but well, i make music just becouse need to express myself and i love music.
My boyfriend makes music and i don’t understand how these generic average music can give over 6m views (well i do know) yet people who are way more talented who work for their music don’t get the same credit it bugs me
I don't understand why so many people are upset in these comments. Everything he's saying has a factual basis. I actually used to like Clairo and I can accept the truth lmfao
Boy Pablo's track was posted on 777tv, which had a Tyler The Creator interview blow up a few years back. It became huge, and the channel got pretty big, which in turn helped boost Boy Pablo when he dropped his tracks
if this video is true, then thats so stupid lol using lofi beats and shoegaze for a cheap blowup. There are people that work 247 at perfecting that sound she has, for them not to blow up before clairo was weird from the start.
Never heard of her until watched this. I just listened to her song, idk not to be a downer I like alot of music but I just don't get why it's so popular. Idk...
i knew there was something off. exposeeeeeeeeed, everyone needs to know. it makes struggling musicians feel bad that theyre not popping off like her when irl, her whole come up was kinda fake.
What a bummer, I was really getting into Clairo :/ I still love some of her songs, I just don't think I can appreciate her as an artist anymore with all that " u can do it! Yayy!" BS.
after you mentioned VACATIONS album in this video, i looked them up and fell in love with their music like i haven't have in a longgg time. . Thank you so much, i RLLY needed this. im probably getting the dog from the front cover of their album tatted lol much love
If you read the video description for Pretty Girl, she says it's a collaboration she did with a record company for charity. My guess is either the record company or Clairo/her father paid to promote the video. I also noticed that Bubblegum was re-uploaded to a random UA-cam channel and had close to 900k views before pretty girl was uploaded which probably contributed to her "blowing up". I do really like her and I hope to see what's to come.
I was just about to comment about how her criticisms are very similar to Chance the Rapper's, essentially being "fake indie" or whatever, but then you explained the connection between them. very interesting stuff.
i never knew she considered herself a self made artist. when i first heard pretty girl, i read the description & saw she was working for a music company. & then when i saw she performed at lalapolooza i was like oh wow damn already ? cause everybody knew only one song of hers.
branded just like chance the rapper was. his first single was on blogs and lists. that doesnt happen to normal indie artists. also, chance lied, his tape wasnt made in ten days at all
her music is okay it's not my cup of tea (i like her covers and bubblegum tho) but she isn't that unique or is bringing anything new to the table in my opinion. there's other more hardworking artist than her that worked years for their recognition. i'm fine with her making music but she should just be honest.
I actually started seeing this video being a little upset, hoping all of this weren't true, but you did present good evidence and the way you talked about the whole thing was pretty neat and elocuent. As you said, I hope she continues in the music industry due to her talent, but I really really hope she honestly opens up with her fans on how she got where she is now. Great informative video, keep it up!
@@jysmtl bruh, i had forgotten about this video and comment. Clairo is better than ever now. She really stayed true to herself in her last 2 albums, a real artist at heart u.u
@@gabrielborjas7923 Thanks, man. I didn’t notice until after I posted that your comment was 4 years ago. Anyway, “branding” and how much help she may have got aside, I’m pulling for her to continue to do well. She’s done some nice tunes.
i found out about pretty girl yesterday and i was amazed after checking out her channel, since i saw that she was on tour and could even go to coachella... i was wondering just how exactly could this (honestly quite cute) girl be singing a self-made song in her bedroom one day, and then perform on stage at coachella the next. im glad to finally find out the answer just now, but at the same time im kinda sad that its highly possible shes not as independent and genuine as she appears to be. i thought i had found a rare, wholesome gem in the vast sea of retro 80s or 90s type music artists. but i still like her music. the only thing thats slightly changed is my view on clairo as a person.
You know what, I appreciate Hypersage for making this. His scepticism, research and courage to express an unpopular perspective is what I think makes a good journalist/content producer in this day and age... Regardless of whether he's reporting credible info or not.
HYPESAGE! Oh shit...i didn't know that. Also, coincidentally a video of yours on him was on my recommendations. (I subbed to Darhk once but I had a weird feeling and it all makes sense to me now....) And with all that, you earned a new sub. I really like what you do. Keep it up man 👍
off topic, i just want to say you speak really clearly and not too fast which makes it easier for me, to understand, who doesnt have english as my native language. i just genuinely appreciate the way you talk :)
I never liked her music much nor her bland singing, people are only going goo goo gaga over her because she's 'cute' or whatever. That's just my take on it, but hey, good for her that she's doing well. I just don't see her as anything special as far as her music go....... and she can't make tracks longer than 2 minutes and with horrible sound quality. But I suppose that's the 'hipster' thing to do these days.
You literally hit the nail on the coffin honestly I'm glad that I come back every time to these comment sections to makes me feel related when I had an unpopular opinion that every body could bashing me for it
Aye good shit my guy, love to see the ones sticking up for the real, genuine artists & musicians, while exposing frauds & detailing how fucked up the industry really is
most of these "hype" artists will not be remembered anyway. i mean, at least chance is real-deal talented and managed to make great music before he sold out to these invisible entities that prop artists up as "independent" clairo doesnt seem to be very talented and her music is boring. great investigation here i guess, but my point is i wouldnt get too bent out of shape over soulless rich people doing what soulless rich people have been doing forever. these duds are not true artists
im glad you are bringing light to this because personally i find it really unfair for someone with such an easy pathway into the industry to be praised for being self-made. i would still respect her if she didn't try to use the webcam-diy-indie-uwu thing to her advantage but the fact that she is deceiving young artists who look up to her and want to work their way into creative spaces is wrong in my opinion. now that i know the truth i find her music boring - i think the charm of being self-made was what made it for me. what bothers me most is that she is just another conventionally attractive, wealthy white girl with a feminine voice and people tend to act like she's unique. the truth is she doesn't have the personality, intersectionality or background make any changes. her subject matter is nothing new and throwing a nice groovy beat under it doesn't make up for her lack of depth and passion, at least for me. she's just another girl singing about boys without offering any new narratives or conceptual artistry. this is what makes her a singer but not an artist in my mind because i believe to truly create there must be at least a little depth somewhere. her lyrics are overly simplistic and she doesnt have enough range to keep her music interesting. she has a nice voice, and i doubt she has bad intentions. but in complete honestly it's exhausting to see someone like her get so much attention when there are artists with more originality to offer.
Funny enough, I remember really liking her while she was posting on her soundcloud. But yeah, of the ways that indie artists have sprung up, you have people who have been working 10+ years to get where they are and then all of a sudden a 19 year old girl comes out of NOWHERE, I was like?? I wish her the best and will 100% keep listening to her music becuase she is talented and her stuff is groovy but I did feel stupid for latching on to the fact that finally, someone indenpent made it big and people saw the greatness that comes with making music that isn't fueled by money or whatever. haha this was surprisingly well put man. Subbed!
This isn't suprising the whole indie thing is a lot more compelling, rappers do this shit all the time being fake independent whilst being signed. Just don't lie to your audience, I honestly can't be a fan of someone who does that.
yes i only listen to artists who grew up in a garbage can and had no talent and then someone records a video of them moaning in pain from hunger and some 14 year old says "sounds like the next tyler the creator" and then i get everyone i know to blow up their soundcloud. that's authenticity man.
It was round 2010, me and “Clairo” as you call her were making a living forging prescriptions and flipping the meds, selling them to upstate rich art college kids with fake depression and not enough skill to make their own forgeries. On the side me and Clairo made dreamy Lo fi bedroom pop, and for a while there everything was pretty good. I wanted to take the sound to something a bit more unique, like post punk eurobeat fusion or eurobeat trap fuck I love eurobeat, but Clairo wanted to keep the fake depressed low effort tumblr-esque “Daddy buy me a diy aesthetic” sound. We came to violence over these arguments and at the crux of this Clairo decided to snitch on our whole operation and abscond with the money, and all of the copies of the music. This fucker finessed me out of all my fucking money and all the music we created. I hardly got out of there before the many pharmaceutical company operatives burnt down our low rent scummy appartment. For the past 7 years I have been training and making badly put together lo fi hip hop beats for 24/7 anime streams on UA-cam to play and subsequently for XXXtentacion to rap over. If I ever do see that fucking snake I will fucking end her I swear to god I will demolish her in armed and unarmed combat I will put her in a fucking casket 6 feet under
sage i believe an industry plant, BUT, i think that she might be cool enough to prove 2 the audience she's worth a listen after this next year passes along.
I’m so lost okay, I’m a broke kid that loves yellow days, Mac , & krule and they will obviously not influence my music but would you guys like me to not use reverb or lofi
this video was FIRE too my nigga! Im glad you made it known it wasnt meant to bash strictly just to inform and get conversation going, that shit is always importatnt.
i love her music, but i think it's important for any clairo fan to watch this video. i wish she'd just own up to this because it would make everything a lot easier for everyone
This is so interesting because I found Vacations as a suggestion from spotify just after following Clairo on it. This is strange, I kind of feel used by media but well... Fuck it, all those bands are so awesome.
Thanks man. I think the DIY moment is important. And it's important to keep it real there too. So grateful for this post. It's not even about Clairo even to me. It's just about not confusing realities.
I knew something seemed off about Clairo the first time I watched "Pretty Girl". Her sound is super generic imo so I figured she exploded with popularity because of her looks and aesthetic. It's interesting knowing that there's so much more to it.
Y'all so if she actually have access to so many resources then her whole set at the OC observatory had to have been fake. She presented herself as being like an independent nobody with no crew or sound engineers. Her audio kept messing up and it looked like she was controlling the instrumentals from her iPhone. She was literally using an aux cord to conduct her entire set. I was questioning why would she didn't have the numerous crew members just control the music for her so she could focus on having a great set. I think she did it on purpose to perpetuate her image of being self made and independent. She made her set shitty even though the venue had a whole team of people that could have helped her.
Woah thats crazy about her dad with converse. Makes me think that her spot in the Observatory Tyler show had something to do with Tyler's recent line of converse shoes..?? Still lover her vibe and music tho. I was defs one of the people singing along from the audience.
It's so weird how she constantly comments on how she came up with no help, people who don't actually have help don't rub it in your face and tell you every chance they get.
I feel like this nigga jumped on the wagon of the band and tries to make himself look like he know everything before anyone but it's all just research for the video and just cuz her dad markets products and other things doesn't mean she's not self made that's just her head start that's her advantage in the music industry like stop hating cuz your not up there like her boi yo hair look like a dirty mop nigga sounding like a bitch talking shit on a girl when you a grown ass nigga

Exactly... I hope this video was insightful

KING KRULE Britain's finest in my humble opinion ;D hehe
Naaah I love yellow days too and all my UK folk. I can't really fault UK bands or indie artist, especially temples (THERE SOOO GOOD)
pretty sweet
+yesthatisright very true! Sure there are people that actually are trying to copy him but people think he has a patent on 70's inspired groovy (for lack of a better term) guitar parts. Mac wouldn't even act like he made that sound. Not to say he doesn't have his own style.
You did this in the most wholesome fashion possible. Kudos
Content Cop - Clairo
lmao
headforthehills I need to see this
headforthehills I'd love the shit out of that, even though I really don't want Clairo's career to suffer.
Yeah it's more that I think better artists deserve the recognition instead
LMAOOOO
WHAT WE DO HERE IS GO BACK BACK BACK BACK BACK
kind of disappointing considering the fact that i totally bought the "self made artist" title. oh well, you can never really trust the music industry.. no matter what though, i'll always like her music yknow.
yea seems like 'pretty girl' was a good excuse to "BLOW UP" haha. i was really surprised when i saw her doing an interview with FADER - then the Observatory show.
and the thing is - she doesn't really sound great live - that was a little disappointing - and like - why isn't like Zack Villere giving out interviews and stuff? his 'cool' video has reached 2 mil already but no one seems to give a damn cuz he doesn't have connections i guess.
meh
Music Industry is fukt....
yooo zach villere is super dope he needs more exposure
True, zack seems very cool.
Zack vilere if fucking gr888
Not even on topic of the video but your hair is amazing.
s t a y w o k e
Lying has to stop
Soft hair ?
it coz she bad af duh she every internet sad bois waifu
💯😥👌
LMAOOOOOO
lol fr
She not even cute though 🙄
👌
Not gonna lie, I was hoping you’d be wrong about everything but you were correct def subscribed
Thank you
Thought i was the only one who could see through her “cool, chill girl facade”
i watched a interview of her and could just tell its a gimmick off top...she has some chill songs tho..but ya i feel u...the "ya im just a chill girl" thing.
yeah i felt that her jump in views between videos was pretty suspicious, and her "im self made" vibe isnt a real one, like certain other bands (the garden, for example. they cant even hit 1 mil views on some amazing tunes). dont get me wrong, i enjoy some of her songs, but it feels kinda like a huge lie she's pulling on us.
yeah furthermore it gets me irked that she got to play the observatory and some large revenues, taking the place of rightful artists, like some who played camp flog gnaw.
Yikes!! Good detective work, this girl made me think I can blow up w just an iPhone mic 😂
this made me chuckle.... hahahaahahahaah
Same. Clairo and steve lacy made me feel like I could make it tbh
Do it man, just don't expect to get the same attention as her, do it for yourself
Luca vinícius This is some great advice dude
LMAO
i knew she was an industry plant
? Oh the fuck well
? How do I be an industry plant?
What does it matter just In joy the music
Andrew Broussard because what sage has said claire presents herself from starting from the bottom, from nothing when her father has connections. So it seems like her whole career startup is bullshit.
Andrew Broussard if your an industry plant than admit it dont try to be fake
I thought you said Congress rather than Converse hahahaha
JustSomebody same here ha
me too lmao
Been waiting on this video! Great coverage, Sage! Truly a fan of this channel. I’ve been a fan of Clairo since her early bandcamp days and although I’ve been happy to see her succeed, I have been scratching my head on how rapid her fame has been coming since she pretty much only has about 2 big “mainstream” songs. After finding out this info, it’s had me torn whether to like her or not because of the honesty of her “indie” come up, it just feels deceitful for some reason.
I THINK SHES COOL AND I LOVE PRETTY GIRL BUT I KNEW SOMETHING WAS OFF WHEN I HAD SEEN SHE ALREADY LANDED HERSELF A GREAT LINE UP LIKE " THE OBSERVATORY "
similar thing with Frankie Cosmos. her parents are wealthy actors, but she talks as if she's a struggling artist.
Bamboo Latte Fortunately, the way it should be.
*grabs popcorn*
*slaps popcorn outta ur hands*
I thought it was pretty fishy that she literally blew up from zero to hero overnight. It just shows you that theres more than meets the eye to the industry
It's kinda sad couse i actually work on my music by myself and it's really hard, even more when you don't even have money and have to rely on friends and cheap equipement, but i think i managed to make it sound sorta nice. I know i won't "make it", but well, i make music just becouse need to express myself and i love music.
Thats the mentality homie
My boyfriend makes music and i don’t understand how these generic average music can give over 6m views (well i do know) yet people who are way more talented who work for their music don’t get the same credit it bugs me
Lol might as well promo him soundcloud.com/seascvpe/summer-days
Serena that track is dope, I’m going through his SoundCloud now, feelin this “as is” track too
LéReal.TV yeah I’m so proud of him so much more to come!:))
I don't understand why so many people are upset in these comments. Everything he's saying has a factual basis. I actually used to like Clairo and I can accept the truth lmfao
Cuz uh claiRO iz my WAIfu shE so CutE
existential existence facts
super interesting! never knew this about her dad! & i too would like clairo to maybe talk about it
i think she's exploiting the whole DIY approach to gain street cred
I do think a lot of it has to do with the UA-cam algorithm tho because the same thing happened to boy pablo and i don't think he had any industry ties
Boy Pablo's track was posted on 777tv, which had a Tyler The Creator interview blow up a few years back. It became huge, and the channel got pretty big, which in turn helped boost Boy Pablo when he dropped his tracks
oh yeah good point I forgot about that
if this video is true, then thats so stupid lol using lofi beats and shoegaze for a cheap blowup. There are people that work 247 at perfecting that sound she has, for them not to blow up before clairo was weird from the start.
Kevin D shoegaze???? Bruh
dang if she had more connections she should make her songs higher quality lmaoo
Emely The Legend that's kinda the "aesthetic" (if you will) behind it though.
yea ik i like it but i be tryna bump it in my car and it sounds like it was made of a potato lmaoo she should remake them with better quality imo
Bahahaha...... and longer than just 2 minute tracks!
I didn't know this about Clairo, it's surprising , but i still like her music, i hope she could be more transparent
Nice Hypenews
Gabriel Tavernier same
Chance the rapper tweeted out the flaming hot cheetos video LMAOOO
clairo was one of my big inspos for music - and im probably not gonna support her
jayani She is to me too. It hurts me to see this.
What a bummer, I was really getting into Clairo :/ I still love some of her songs, I just don't think I can appreciate her as an artist anymore with all that " u can do it! Yayy!" BS.
after you mentioned VACATIONS album in this video, i looked them up and fell in love with their music like i haven't have in a longgg time.
.
Thank you so much, i RLLY needed this. im probably getting the dog from the front cover of their album tatted lol
much love
Much love XO
I never got in to her music I knew something was off thanks for the vid
one thing to remember
separate the art from the artist
even if you feel like you’ve been lied to, or deceived, you can still enjoy clairos music :)
100%
Jarooski Tough to support artists who do this.
i honestly hope vacations does blow up since they are in the kinda popular but not know well category
Damn. This left me feeling some kind of way.
fr
i never knew she considered herself a self made artist. when i first heard pretty girl, i read the description & saw she was working for a music company. & then when i saw she performed at lalapolooza i was like oh wow damn already ?
cause everybody knew only one song of hers.
This is how you do a proper exposing video! Bravo Sage
FLuX Nemo OMG FLUX NEMO...HAVENT HEARD THAT NAME IN YEARS HOW IRONIC I SEE YOU HERE.
Peter Soboyejo why is that ironic haha, who are you again?
I hope one day I will be hype so there is a hypenews questionning my authenticity and stuff ...wait
Enzo Kaci ?
Sairus Pedal Bee
branded just like chance the rapper was. his first single was on blogs and lists. that doesnt happen to normal indie artists. also, chance lied, his tape wasnt made in ten days at all
i just woke up wen i wrote this shit. excuse the flaccidness of it
I haven’t heard of chance saying his tape was made in 10 days but he started it when he was suspended from school for 10 days hence the name 10 day
Oh shit u right about everything lmao
holy shit this actually blew my mind
W O K E H Y P E N E W S
her music is okay it's not my cup of tea (i like her covers and bubblegum tho) but she isn't that unique or is bringing anything new to the table in my opinion. there's other more hardworking artist than her that worked years for their recognition. i'm fine with her making music but she should just be honest.
I appreciate how you just told the story and withheld judgment. Respect. I still enjoy clairos artistry a lot! I just want authenticity
thank you! ive been thinking this for the longest
omg she's a tfb?
Buried Muse wtf is "tfb"?
Tfb stands for "trust fund baby"
The front bottoms
Hey Haven beat me to it
Hey Haven Damn it
the 'music industry' is marketing. nothing more
GOOD SHIT BROTHER. I LOVE HOW YOU USE YOUR VOICE FOR US FANS/PEOPLE
I've been bamboozled
I actually started seeing this video being a little upset, hoping all of this weren't true, but you did present good evidence and the way you talked about the whole thing was pretty neat and elocuent. As you said, I hope she continues in the music industry due to her talent, but I really really hope she honestly opens up with her fans on how she got where she is now. Great informative video, keep it up!
What evidence? All circumstantial.
@@jysmtl haha it's been a while. But yeah, I'm sure she'll keep it up. I'm curious about what she may be up to
So happy to see this video after our discussion on the live stream! Speaking real words, ultra woke
i found out about pretty girl yesterday and i was amazed after checking out her channel, since i saw that she was on tour and could even go to coachella... i was wondering just how exactly could this (honestly quite cute) girl be singing a self-made song in her bedroom one day, and then perform on stage at coachella the next. im glad to finally find out the answer just now, but at the same time im kinda sad that its highly possible shes not as independent and genuine as she appears to be. i thought i had found a rare, wholesome gem in the vast sea of retro 80s or 90s type music artists. but i still like her music. the only thing thats slightly changed is my view on clairo as a person.
Floor cry > Clairo
She’s the homie
fuck yes
You know what, I appreciate Hypersage for making this. His scepticism, research and courage to express an unpopular perspective is what I think makes a good journalist/content producer in this day and age... Regardless of whether he's reporting credible info or not.
Clairo: the Queen of Willy Pete
He would spam the shit outta her lmao
HYPESAGE! They’re actually friends
gabriella then how come the videos he posted of her songs got taken down?
HYPESAGE! Oh shit...i didn't know that. Also, coincidentally a video of yours on him was on my recommendations. (I subbed to Darhk once but I had a weird feeling and it all makes sense to me now....)
And with all that, you earned a new sub.
Tony Kart Racer agree
You literally hit the nail on the coffin honestly I'm glad that I come back every time to these comment sections to makes me feel related when I had an unpopular opinion that every body could bashing me for it
Extremely valid points. The manner in which you presented this was brilliant.
Isn't this the same exact thing with Lana Del Rey and some rapper? Worked well for her too!
Aye good shit my guy, love to see the ones sticking up for the real, genuine artists & musicians,
while exposing frauds & detailing how fucked up the industry really is
most of these "hype" artists will not be remembered anyway. i mean, at least chance is real-deal talented and managed to make great music before he sold out to these invisible entities that prop artists up as "independent"
clairo doesnt seem to be very talented and her music is boring. great investigation here i guess, but my point is i wouldnt get too bent out of shape over soulless rich people doing what soulless rich people have been doing forever. these duds are not true artists
great investigation bro
im really amazed about clairo conections, hope she earned this success
N O T H I N G I S R E A L
im glad you are bringing light to this because personally i find it really unfair for someone with such an easy pathway into the industry to be praised for being self-made. i would still respect her if she didn't try to use the webcam-diy-indie-uwu thing to her advantage but the fact that she is deceiving young artists who look up to her and want to work their way into creative spaces is wrong in my opinion. now that i know the truth i find her music boring - i think the charm of being self-made was what made it for me. what bothers me most is that she is just another conventionally attractive, wealthy white girl with a feminine voice and people tend to act like she's unique. the truth is she doesn't have the personality, intersectionality or background make any changes. her subject matter is nothing new and throwing a nice groovy beat under it doesn't make up for her lack of depth and passion, at least for me. she's just another girl singing about boys without offering any new narratives or conceptual artistry. this is what makes her a singer but not an artist in my mind because i believe to truly create there must be at least a little depth somewhere. her lyrics are overly simplistic and she doesnt have enough range to keep her music interesting. she has a nice voice, and i doubt she has bad intentions. but in complete honestly it's exhausting to see someone like her get so much attention when there are artists with more originality to offer.
Your hair is the best
If I ever do see that fucking snake I will fucking end her I swear to god I will demolish her in armed and unarmed combat I will put her in a fucking casket 6 feet under
What. The. Fuck. Hahahahhahaha
G Goat spread the word Clairo exposed right here
“Daddy buy me a diy aesthetic” hahahhaahahahhahahahhahahahhahahahah
So in 2010 clairo would’ve been like 11 haha
sage i believe an industry plant, BUT, i think that she might be cool enough to prove 2 the audience she's worth a listen after this next year passes along.
I’m so lost okay, I’m a broke kid that loves yellow days, Mac , & krule and they will obviously not influence my music but would you guys like me to not use reverb or lofi
this video was FIRE too my nigga! Im glad you made it known it wasnt meant to bash strictly just to inform and get conversation going, that shit is always importatnt.
aye you got mac in da back AYE DAT RHYMES TOO
i love her music, but i think it's important for any clairo fan to watch this video. i wish she'd just own up to this because it would make everything a lot easier for everyone
What even is you hair? You a lowkey flowerboy ... I love it
This is so interesting because I found Vacations as a suggestion from spotify just after following Clairo on it. This is strange, I kind of feel used by media but well... Fuck it, all those bands are so awesome.
Thanks man. I think the DIY moment is important. And it's important to keep it real there too. So grateful for this post. It's not even about Clairo even to me. It's just about not confusing realities.
thanks!
I knew something seemed off about Clairo the first time I watched "Pretty Girl". Her sound is super generic imo so I figured she exploded with popularity because of her looks and aesthetic. It's interesting knowing that there's so much more to it.
after so many years, and recently with his latest release (blouse), do you think his sound is still generic?
