Refs should be interviewed and given a lot more media exposure. Once people realise they are just humans who make mistakes, the level of respect goes up. Put a microphone on them as they do in rugby and I'm sure they would receive half the abuse once you hear their side.
Probably get a lot less abuse from the players too.

Luke McLellan that’s actually changed a lot I remember the top four. United fan me. In the early to mid 2000s Chelsea United Arsenal some of players of other teams would crowd the ref. I remember perluigi collina to nobody bothered him the baldy Italian ref . Best ref of all time. 👍
@@samuraisoul1043 because he didn't stand for it. I've often wondered whether a lot of the refs are/were simply too in awe of the players and don't have the bottle to tell them where to go.

Hi lads. I am a referee and this episode was brought to my attention a few weeks back..having never listened to the Pod before, prior to this episode I've gone all the way back to 2018 and I can say categorically that That Peter Crouch Podcast has improved my quality of life. Keep it up boys.

This is ace, I’ve never really liked Dean growing up as a youngster. Seems like a down to earth bloke, guess supporters just view these guys as referees and not people.
Really loving this podcast Crouchy is such a genuinely nice bloak and great sense of humour and the two lads with him seem to be the same as him good chemistry between them...its great to get the perspective of referees we forget they're human sometimes and expect them to get it right all the time..good show lads keep it up👍

@@scouserlfc8948liverpool is closer to most parts of the Wirral than Wales 😆 The accent must change dramatically through that 5 minute drive through the tunnel ha. But yeh they have lots of trees and stuff on the Wirral 👍 sorry about that

I think Video Assistance should only be used for goal line tech, and clear missed offsides (no offsides by the armpits, benefit should be given to the attacker) and penalties (only to check if someone has dived, and to de-reward the pen)
If he killed 140.000 chicken per day for 16 years that would be around 808,800,000 if you deduct 28 days per year as holiday time... Clucking hell!

The ref needs to look at the monitor and make their own decisions, not be told to overturn it.
Best use of that technology - let the ref make his own decisions with the tools. Not some guy off somewhere else

When the podcast title is asking if a referee is 'the greatest showman' there is a problem. A referee should be one of the least noticable thing in a game of football, yet he seems to strive on being what is remembered about one. That's not his role.

People make the argument that refs deserve respect, and fair enough they do. Doesn't account for the fact that they're free from criticism for managers and players as if they do they get fined.
